People were noting that they didn't have any flags on display during the convention. The DNC has plenty of American flags, they just had a lot of trouble finding one they hadn't burnt yet.

It'll be interesting to see how the media covers Trump's verbal diarrhea once the general election campaign starts. Will they give it a pass because it's "just how Trump talks, don't take it seriously", or will they hold his feet to the fire over it? Will the Putin-Trump mutual admiration society face greater scrutiny, or will people not care one way of the other?

Interesting times.

I don't recall the media ever liking Assange. First he was a threat to US national security, then a rapist, now he's a pawn of Putin. Who the fuck knows. Though I would never have described him as a leftist. He comes off like one of those ancap dumbasses now and then.

As for Trump, I think at this point the dems need to realize they're not dealing with a candidate who's base is motivated by reason. Traditional smear tactics don't work on the Donald. Dude's pure incoherent rage and that's why his supporters like him. They like him precisely because he's hated by all the people they hate.

That being said, you're right about the Kurds. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if that coup attempt in Turkey had something to do with the CIA. Erdogan's been bombing the only effective counter to ISIS in Syria for the past year.

Assange has always been that, though. He's always come across as this narcissistic, incredibly vain asshole who goes out of his way to look like a Bond villain. It's hard to imagine a worse spokesperson for transparency than this complete douche. The "rape" accusations are completely ridiculous and even taken on their face wouldn't constitute rape in any normal country, but at the very least he's a shitbag.

JTJ is Al Qaeda in Iraq ,though. They went through a name change, that's the only difference.

That being said timeline is a bit off. A better phrasing would be "came to prominence" during the occupation. Beforehand they were just one of a million militant groups bumming around Afghanistan.
