Russia's a corrupt, failing oligarchy run by a dictator in all but name. If they didn't have a decaying nuclear stockpile they'd be a larger version of Turkmenistan. As it is, they're like a big retarded kid with a brick... you have to talk slowly to them in case they get spooked and wallop you, but they're more sad than evil.

Gee, it's almost like people don't like a nation that annexes a neighboring nation's territory, especially when that nation seems to be rapidly trying to modernize its forces and engaging in military operations abroad.

Crimea is ethnically Russian, and signed itself into the Federation after a Spetznatz-assisted revolt against Ukrainian authority. To say that Russia is at fault for the local revolt is to assume that every fighter in Donetsk, and Crimea as a whole is a Russian.

Trump's rhetoric has increasingly begun to appeal not to average voters, but to far-right militia types and conspiracy theorists. Oklahoma city and Bundy Ranch. That set. They have killed people in the past, they attack and threaten people all the time, and just this week a bunch of them got caught plotting to blow up an apartment complex and a mosque. Trump is giving these people political exposure, he's giving them recruitment opportunities at his rallies, and the way he's whipping his supporters into a paranoid frenzy about election rigging and shit is the sort of thing you hear in third world countries before an opposition candidate launches armed insurrection. So yeah, that's a powderkeg waiting to blow.

Long story short I'm buying TWO bags of popcorn for election night.

It's not ultra-belligerent to not be too dumb to recognize they're no more our allies than they have EVER been. There are a few things we can and should be cooperating on, like ISIS, because we share more or less the same interests in getting rid of them. That should not be confused for some kind of giddy let's be friends bullshit.

Even Lend Lease was a tenuous deal. It worked and both sides upheld the agreement for the most part. Stalin was a man of his word and sent the US and British gold payments for the war material that was provided to the Soviet Union.

On the other hand, Soviet forces did not always follow the obligations the USSR had agreed to with the equipment provided. (Such as when some aircraft (Bell P-63 Kingcobras) which were earmarked for USSR assistance in attacking Japan were used in the fight against Germany, in defiance of the agreements made.)
