They went to that trouble, but didn't activate the gay Kaidan stuff from the start?

That would require new lines and no way they would pay Kaidan's voice actor more than they had to. This was a remaster and thats really it to them, no more effort required.

Besides, Kaiden was retconned into being bi-sexual for brownie points, there is also that.

Weren't the lines already recorded for ME1 and then just were never used?

Im not sure, probably not or else Im sure I would have heard about it after all these years of being a ME fan. I could be wrong tho...

But Kaidan suddenly becoming bisexual never made any sense. He never did show any interest towards male Shep in ME 1 or 2...so either he was playing hard to get or maybe he was, get this, never bi and the early stages of woke were starting to set in for this franchise. Nothing too bad but it was there.

Tim Drake syndrome.

As for the Legendary Edition, I appreciate the less clunky return to ME1. ME2 is what I remember, more or less. Though I wish they'd have offered ME3 multiplayer, which was the primary reason I tolerated ME3.

I’ve had a few bugs here and again on series x, surprising ones that I don’t remember from the original games:

ME1: The mako would occasionally freeze in place, with the suspension freaking out. If you tried to maneuver, nothing would happen, but when you disembarked, it would rocket off into the distance as if all the inputs happened at once. This happened maybe a dozen times.

ME2: not much here, but I forget how much I hated the Hammerhead, stupid styrofoam drone-thing. Occasionally the title screen would explode into rainbow colors, and on certain planets the bottom and right extremes of the screen would show corruption a few pixels deep

ME3: holy fuck the lip synching is absolutely awful. Lost count of the number of times Javik would say something only to have his lips move 5 seconds later. Also one time Shepard’s head would rotate on his neck at breakneck speeds during cutscenes with Hackett. So wish I got a cap of that.

I had a ton of run though, ngl

I remember the Mako glitching out like that in the original game too, or at least the PS3 version. I think it's some kind of lag where the screen doesn't show you the movement, but it does register your inputs as you said. It's super annoying, but the only way to mitigate the effects is to not make any inputs when the Mako stops moving even though you can still see the treads moving and hear the engine until it catches up.

ME3 is a freezing mess of a game. I'm also pissed because of the lack of a Krogan squadmate.

Plus EDI being an android is dumb.

They were nice enough to give us a morsel of Krogan squadmates in the DLC which I had never bought when the original game released. I had a weird freezing bug on PC where the achievement popup would randomly minimize my screen and when I maximized it again my PC would lock up and I'd have to do a hard reboot.

The game keeps hard freezing when I alt-tab out. It just froze my PC's UI so I had to reset. This is disappointing.

Necroing this thread to post this:
Mod build list for the entire original trilogy. Give it a few years and more mods will be developed for Legendary Edition. There's also no general ME thread so I don't know where to post this.
Also better dreams for ME3.
Gitfish removed their mods from Nexus due to drama and I consider this a good mod because it cuts out the child dream segments entirely to give Shepard PTSD from his/her journey through the trilogy instead.

I played through the whole thing again and was impressed just how well it's held up even if every game has distinct strengths and weaknesses. The changes they made to ME1 are overall a positive, of the trilogy it plays the worst but has the best atmosphere, great characters (Tali and Garrus best space bros) and world building, it really does feel like you're setting off to explore a galaxy, so might still be my favourite of the three. The classes feel more distinct, even if the inventory is still a complete shitshow, with endless almost identical weapons and mods.

Mass Effect 2 undeniably plays better, has the most memorable characters, the renegade & paragon interrupts are a simple but engaging addition and the suicide mission is a great climax if you go in blind. That said, it does feel too streamlined in many areas, with no weapons customisation and reduced squadmate abilities. The planet scanning is absolutely mind numbing as well.

In terms of controls and character/weapon building Mass Effect 3 strikes the best balance. But the problem is you can't talk about it without discussing the story. There are some great moments, such as the conclusion of the Geth and Quarian storyline, but for all the deserved flak the ending gets, there are a lot of other flaws. Like Cerberus going from a shadowy black ops organisation to Space Nazis powerful enough to invade any planet, it making ME2 a glorified side quest, or the massive exposition dump in Thessia. In the final third it becomes very obvious that the game was rushed to meet a deadline, and you just can't help but think of what might have been.

Well, i played the original trilogy pirated before buying the legendary edition and i'm gonna admit the push to the limits with the engine is far so good. Sadly, some bugs in the OG trilogy never fixed.
At least the in-build import characters is more smooth and even fixed some bugs in that part.

Sooo, thread necro.

I got ME:LE for free I think on Amazon last year. Finally decided to sit down and play the first game. I had tried it at a friends house in 2007 when it came out originally but for some reason it just didn't jive with me, despite on the surface having everything a sci-fi nerds into. I loved Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire, so you'd think I'd have been instantly into this BioWare game when they were still in their prime, alas...

So I started ME 1 and honestly, I kind of regret not giving it a chance all those years ago. The menu systems, shit as they are, are such a nostalgic throwback. I love how much of an unrepentant asshole you can be as Shepard, the writing is pretty sharp and reminds me of the before times before Whedonisms took over dialogue in media. The character customization I thought sucked, but they all did back then. Knights of the Old Republic's was garbage too and took from the Jedi Knight games, which were as bad. That being said, I got my Shepard to not look like a mongloid.

I don't mind the RPG bullet sponge mechanics much, since I went exploring everywhere and doing side missions first before I even got Liara. Now I have everyone almost completely maxed out and I have all the Spectre guns for Shepard so I don't expect kicking Saren's ass to be that hard. I can understand why some people wouldn't like those mechanics because it does feel grindy but I'm only playing a few missions every couple nights.

The story itself doesn't feel that original (maybe it would have back in 2007) but it's fun and engaging none the less. I wanted to do a pure xenophobic playthrough but this being my first time playing, didn't want to miss all the optional content in the game because of that. Still, the Renegade dialogue options are nice. I wish the armor was more "customizable", in mods and appearance. I felt since the guns get two mod slots the armor should as well, though in my current playthrough I think I have all the top armors for everyone now so it doesn't much matter.

All that being said, I think I'm about halfway through the story and I'm enjoying the game. I hope 2 is as good and I'm seriously considering picking up Andromeda to try out after I eventually beat 3.

If you are feeling rather mid on the story you'll probably like 2 the most. It's definitely the game with the most overall polish. 3 might feel a bit slapdash and even people not invested in the story thought the ending missed the mark.
Unless you're one of the dudes who loves collecting feathers and whatnot in Assassin's Creed games, don't pick up Andromeda. The gameplay is extremely shallow, the writing is absolute garbage, and they borrowed too much from Ubisoft's notes on how to build open world maps.

So it's just AssCreed in Space with a slightly more customizable character?

that and a main villain with a toilet seat for a head. And an obnoxious omniscient narrator AI jabbering in your ear at all times.
