The changes do look admittedly better. Too bad the dialogue still has all the, ahem, "charm" of a Lucas prequel script.

Yeah the whole thing reminds me of the prequels' Anakin/Padme romance writing. Just 3PO was too polite to say "Kill. Me. Now."

At long last they fixed the shitty facial animations, shading, and put in actual body language in the conversation scenes in the new patch, now the game actually looks like a Mass Effect game. This is how ME:A should have been in the first place. If the game was like this in the very fucking beginning, we wouldn't be having this conversation. How the fuck did employees at Bioware thought that it was a good idea to just sell a load of ugly, glitchy, buggy piece of shit without much patching in retail without considering all the consequences of it?

Dear god that's a big improvement. Makes me all the sadder that I didn't just wait like...a year after the game's release to buy it and play it for the first time. (I feel like with games like this, the first playthrough is the most memorable.)

On one hand, I'm really glad that they actually intend to fix issues beyond bugs & gear/ability balance. On the other, I'm really sad that they didn't just stall release of the game for another few months to do all this. At least they're not taking the: "Welp, better luck next game lol" approach, so I guess that's something. Granted, this may be a case of: "If they don't at least try to do damage control with this game, there might not BE another try at a new game".

Regardless of how awkward and unnecessary it was, it was a 2 minute conversation. 2 MINUTES. OUT OF HOURS OF LONG, DRAWN-OUT GAMEPLAY. No. 1 priority. 10/10 GotY.

I like how most of the negative feedback about this has seemingly been coming from self-proclaimed trans people, and their complaint is that "OMG A REAL TRANS PERSON WOULD NEVER TELL YOU THEY'RE TRANS! AT LEAST NOT IMMEDIATELY!" Then, when you check out their profiles, that's just about all you learn about the person because it's all they ever talk about. :c Ever.

Edit: I'm curious if people are going to be equally or more angry about the changes they make to the character.

This right here is why you don't cater to identity groups in an artistic endeavor. Vidya, film, fiction, theatre, whatever. Tell your story, draw your characters, hit your themes, get your message out, fuck with people's heads -- whatever it is that inspires you. Satisfy yourself first. If you're a quality creator, an audience will follow. If you offend people, well, people need to nut the fuck up. Stop with the bullshit tokenism and only put a transgender character in there if it matters to the story you're trying to tell or to your passions, not because some tumblr Offendatron wants it in there.

BioWare is a soulless shell of what it once was.

Remember their response to the ME3 ending controversy?
M-M-Muh AUTISTIC INTEGRITY!!!

But when they make another shitty tranny like Krem...
Sorry we'll fix it.

P R I O R I T I E S

They call that fixed? She is still as dead as she was before that patch. Her eyes still aren't showing anything, they just look empty and dead, it just makes her look more stupid when her head shakes around like that. Also I feel like this all is coming too late. These fixes even shouldn't be a thing, it's clear that they didn't care enough to bring quality product the first time, why should we as customers just eat their shit after their "fixes".

Because removing the ability to make a white person is TOTALLY progressive and not at all racist or behaving exactly like the kind of people you despise.

Between the openly racist designer, the clearly in-experienced (and agenda driven) team, incompetent management, and EA at the helm of it all, this game was a deadly cocktail waiting to happen.

Was it angry joe that said that to get a white character, you need to take certain preset character and make some stupid edits and then you can have a white character? That's just racist, as you said.

oh, but I forgot.. you can't be racist against whites. /sneed

It's also something nobody did when making this game. The "no white characters" story is completely fictitious.

lol some of the presets being associated with specific races was a thing in the original trilogy too

Pre-patch this was the whitest you could make a custom character.

Compared to the default Scott.

I'm not someone who's arguing it was dumb social politics that there wasn't an initial option for making a completely white guy, but the fact remains that at launch you couldn't make your guy as white as the default.

I had a feeling it had something to do with the preset face you picked out. I was kind of hoping that they'd opt to branch away from this kind of character creation where you're mostly limited to stretching out/shrinking down the features of a preset face and altering some hair/eye/skin colors.

I personally prefer something more along the lines of picking out a face shape and cycling through different types of eye/nose/mouth/etc., and then messing with sliders. Less of a chance of everyone having kind of a "sameface" deal going on with NPCs and the like.

I felt like I ran into a lot of human NPCs that looked near identical aside from hair color/style. It's a little distracting, and I had the same issue with the original Mass Effect trilogy. It's not a huge deal. I've noticed quite a few people don't seem to actually care about things like character customization and all that (which came as a surprise to me), but it does matter to a lot of people.

Especially since it's starting to become a standard to have a significant amount of customization options for games with character creation as an option. It's hard to go backwards once you've had better.

Edit: Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the original Mass Effect trilogy give you options to select a preset face and also still get the option of cycling through features like nose/mouth/etc? I could have sworn that was an option that was there in the original ME trilogy, yet not in ME: Andromeda. It may have been for a reason, but it's still weird to me.

Actually, the hispanic face is mediocre. I would not call it attractive, but its not butt fiend ugly... except the eyes. Once you reduce that manly giant jaw that all female presets have.

All but a few presets got overlarge, weirdly shaped googly eyes.

I ended up picking an asian face that had smaller ,slanted eyes just to get away from that.

And yeah, "heavy tan" is the whitest you can make.

Started playing yesterday, the unpatched version. Facial animations suck and the game really hates pretty people, but overall... eh. Just a mediocre third person shooter with RPG elements. Might as well finish it while waiting for Cyberpunk.
