As it is, EA isn't going to learn shit from this, any more than they did when they killed Pandemic, Maxis, Visceral, Bullfrog, and Westwood (among others). EA will just shrug it off, scuttle what they can, and we'll give them the Shittiest Company of the Year award. They'll pout and say they're sorry, them laugh all the way to the bank on the money they get each year from EA Sports bullshit.

So a serious question, for those who follow these things more closely than I do: How much of this is EA's fault? In no way do I mean to absolve them -- obviously they treat smaller game developers like a horde of locusts on a wheatfield -- but it wasn't EA who urged BioWare to start catering to Tumblrinas and dangerhairs, is it? And it seems to me that's where the decline began in earnest.

The Tumblr/sjw stuff by all accounts is Bioware but EA made the decision to outsource the character animations to Romania along with other shitty decisions so It's like 50/50 on who's fault it is that MEA turned out to be crap.

Yeah they may have outsourced animations, but I think you're forgetting Bioware has a QA department.
 
Bioware did not want the faces or animations touched up. Remember, the upper management did not think they were a priority and thought the faces shouldn't be attractive, especially the females. I can't really blame the outsourcing, because the Bioware upper-management is fucking retarded.

Oh, remember when I said no studio would be fucking stupid enough to use raw mo-cap? Apparently Bioware upper execs ARE Fucking stupid enough to do it.
 
Anyone who had followed Mass Effect since the first game saw this coming. It was a few little things at first, like trying to reconcile heat clips in-lore when they really didn't have to. The strange feeling that the Shadow Broker DLC was actually part of the main game since the game weirdly cuts off when you are about to meet Liara.

Then by ME3 you had things thrown out the window, like eezo powered ships now being able to make landfall, making the whole high altitude tank drop pointless. The Normandy being able to respond and arrive to a request for an evac from the earth, while it was in the final reaper battle near the moon in 3 seconds. The whole suicide mission of the previous game was essentially pointless, since you now have their palette swap equivalents. All the good will you thought you built up during the past two games culminating in a joint Council Races, Quarians, Geth Alliance?

No, now you have a resource bar to fill, and at the end Machine God appears and tells you he controls everything. The Illusive Man, who is made out to be an outright villain at the last moment, is proven to be right, undercutting the writers themselves. You get answers in the end, the type of answers that leave a bad taste in your mouth, the kind you don't want to be real. Which is why the Indoctrination theory started.

But we knew the next ME game was going to be bad, just not.... laugh out loud bad.

BW may have started catering to the SJW crowd, but EA did not step in and stop it. Many of their games were LGBT friendly *, but as long as it was just friendly, nobody was too riled by it, until DA:I and ME:A went full on tumblr.

ME and DA had homo romances from the startup of the series.
Swtor had at first hetero only romance, with stuff that seemed like cut content for some characters that seemed really bisexual . Than it had a gay planet, than it just went "Oh crap just make all new romance options bisexual, that way everybody is happy" . Though at least here, they let you be very pretty, because BW Austin figured out that women like to be the pretty space princess. Perhaps Disney gave them that most secret of business insights.

So far, the animations are not getting better.

Liam is your afro dudebro. He definately is about as professional a soldier as Dobson is a professional artist.
Core Harambe is very generic so far to me, except her dykewalk, which is horrible.
Garrus Girl is not Garrus, but at least she so far seems to know what she is doing.
Captain Pingu lips is generic.
Alec Ryder seemed likable for his short part.
Doctor Goof-face is generic too. Just your usual asari.
Krogan Badvoice has the horrid voice, but otherwise ok.
Salarian Boss guy is way too non chalante about the whole deal.
Turian security boss guy is ok.
My face is tired woman is horrible. I resorted to just spacebaring through her broken, brain damaging dialogue and that dead face. Seriously, the worst character I met so far. Hope I won't have to interact with her much. She literally can't speak proper English and will just blurt out a barely comprehensible CWC style word salad. At least the others can make god damn cohesive sentences.

lol I keep getting further into the game waiting for sjw stuff to happen so I can laugh at it and so far nothing at all. And I've just finished the third planet so I gotta be at least halfway through the story by now. Does it happen at the end or something? And where I'm at the story has also reaffirmed that the Council did not, in fact, believe Shepard about the Reapers so now I'm wondering who in this thread has actually played through the game lmao

The characters are still shit though, that part is true.

I've played through it, although I didn't do *all* of the side quests. The majority of the SJW stuff that's claimed is mainly spergs over-analysing stuff. The weird face modelling, janky animations and entertainingly awkward scripting should have manifested by now, though. If you want to see Ms. 'bet you won't guess my deadname', she's on Eos after you've made the planet habitable. The gender binary thing comes up on the Nexus, at the cultural centre after you've allied with the Angara.

Beyond that, I don't have any massive issues with the game - I actually kinda liked it, in a B-movie sort of way. Just a bit of a shame that the Mass Effect franchise went through such a downturn around ME3 onwards.

Yeah, so far the gameplay and actual story are pretty great (for vanguards at least). If the characters didn't look and act like shit this would be a pretty solid game.

As far as the face modeling goes, Mass Effect characters have never looked particularly good (there's a reason one of the most popular romance options was the one who never took off her mask), so I expected that anyway. And the characters in general aren't even poorly written, they're just underwritten and boring, except for the obnoxious ones like Peebee who I'm assuming the writers thought would be the breakout character because they made her so "quirky".

"Peebee is the key to all this, she's a funnier character than we've had before." -Bioware probably

It seems like a very average game rather than an outright bad one but that's just not enough anymore. I can't justify paying $60 for an average game when so many good to excellent games exist.
 
Older ME games did have better female faces, especially Me3. But it is good to see the are helping it a little.

As I said the game is not an unplayable mess like Big Rigs, but it just does not measure up to its predecessors at all.

SJW stuff also include the no custom whitey part.
