In this game however (and granted I haven't played it- but this is how I am construing a lot of this), it feels like this is Ryder's Summer Camp Pals fighting the Big UFO Meanie. The human characters all look like their barely into their 20s, there isn't any intriguing cosmic horror mystery which gripped the players in the first hour of ME, and the villain feels like Saturday Morning Cartoon fodder. The only other thing people care to talk about is what or who you get to fuck in the game. That's what this series has devolved to - from preparing for a massive suicide run, to having movie night with your bunk buddies.
so it's exactly like tumblr fanfiction

I thought that was Bethesda's policy, though.

At least Bethesda does not make them look retarded, just emotionless. Plus their games do have mod support built in as standard and let you create your white character.

Bioware couldn't create decent lighting with 40 million dollars and five years of development. Thankfully some random modder managed to do it in less than three days.

That's a lot of difference. Like putting your glasses on lol.

At least Bethesda is somewhat upfront about being bad at storytelling and giving you a shitload of other things to do. You can escape the story and go exploring. Bioware is still convinced they're great writers and even when you're exploring and avoiding story bits you have companions dropping awful one-liners in your ear.

It's astonishing that we could very well end up with Fallout 4 having more interesting and memorable companions than a Mass Effect game.

Hey, at least in Bethesda games, there's always fan-made companions, like Inigo and Sofia for Skyrim. Naturally, there are similar mods for Fallout 4 as well. Sadly, Mass Effect: Andromeda would still be doomed even if it did have proper mod support, because the base game is simply so awful. A mod that fixes all its problems would be more like a remake, really.

Surely you must be joking! You can possibly forget the amazing exploits of PeePee, Black Guy, Power Lesbian-not-Lesbian, Boiled Catman, Fem-Turian, and The Krogan!

Didn't like any of Fallout 4's companions.
Thought that Jaal was the most fun one though. Vetra was cool too, but not anything too special. Her romance was cute, but man that last scene was completely fucking ruined by the animation work. Drack was a Krogan and that's about it. Liam was boring. Cora was shit. Cora's gimmick is that she used to be an Asari Commando and SHE WILL REMIND YOU OF THIS IN EVERY INTERACTION WITH HER POSSIBLE.
"Ah yes Ryder did you know I was an Asari Commando?"
"This reminds me of a saying us Huntresses had because I was an Asari Commando remember?"
"I know this Asari history because I was an Asari Commando, I think I might have mentioned that."
It gets pretty funny to be honest. It feels like the writers legitimately wanted to make Cora interesting, but felt that she just wasn't in the end so they rammed the one unique part of her backstory down your ears 24/7. Her jawline also really bothers me.
Peebee wasn't anything like I thought she'd be. I thought she'd be a lolsorandom memester but instead she was a HUGE fucking asshole. Definitely didn't care for her.

Best thing for EA to do at this point is close up shop for Bioware and contract out other developers to handle Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Bioware has repeatedly demonstrated an amazing capacity for incompetence. DA and ME have become industry jokes under bioware's helm and since Disney has star wars in its iron grip that leaves older titles to cash in on: Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Jade Empire.

Can only wonder how phenomenally they'll cock those up if they dig 'em back up.

I disagree. Bioware isn't unsalvageable, but they are mismanaged to a terrible degree, both in the studio and from their publisher. Unfortunately the studio was acquired during the tail end of EA's last real hands-off period with regard to development, a time that yielded a bunch of successful new IPs like Burnout: Paradise, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, and the first two Rock Band games. Mass Effect 1 came out during that time as well. But because EA has a very typical cyclical corporate attitude towards meddling with their studios, they went on to ruin the follow ups to all of those IPs.

They're about due for another hands-off period, and if EA got rid of the clique that currently manages Bioware Montreal and attracted some industry veterans with a real sense of vision to work on future Mass Effect and Dragon Age games (veterans who could actually train all the new grads EA filled the studio with to master their craft), they could probably get a lot more credibility back and reconnect with the old fanbase.

*rates self :optimistic: :optimistic: :optimistic:*

Mass Effect Andromeda writing team probably wrote this, this is how graceful they introduce characters.

The actual best thing for EA to do is give Bioware tons of money so we can get even more high quality memes coupled with lower quality writing and animation in a sequel.
