Like a hundred years ago there was a /co/-adjacent podcast where they did a bit about Spider-Man being a Woody Allen type nebbish new york jew character and I still think about it from time to time. He worked at The Daily Bagel and pronounced Spiderman like Spiegelman.
That doesn't have anything to do with anything but you reminded me of it.
Anyway the last few pages made me realize that the introduction of time travel and parallel universes killed the MCU as much as the slopaganda aspect did. Every attempt they've made to explain any of it has just made things worse. Also the more I think about it the more I realize Endgame was just as much jingle-keys nonsense as SM3 and DP3.
Not keeping up with this shit is like crack. I haven't even started Born Again and I'm probably not going to. Still undecided on whether I'm going to bother with Spider-Man.

I'm 15 minutes into this Punisher special and it's more "Wah, I don't want to be Punisher anymore and I want to kill myself and there's clearly punishing needing to be done but I'm just going to ignore it and contemplate suidice" shit that Bernthal and Disney keep pushing and it's all so fucking trite at this point.
Bernthal is the gayest fucking Punisher ever. Gayer than Avenging Angel Punisher even.
Edit: Jesus Christ, 21 minutes in and they finally have Punisher George Floyd a fucking wop.
Edit 2: I swear to god if they only call this dude who is obviously supposed to be Barracuda "Barry" I'm going to roll my eyes so hard.

It was OK, essentially 15 minutes of The Raid: Punisher Edition, wrapped in the same melodrama they can't seem to break Frank out of every time they want to use him.
This is, what, the third time he "finally killed everyone who was involved in his family's deaths" in this continuity? First in DDS2, when he kills all the mobsters and gangsters and then Mr Krabs; then in Punisher S1 when the plot thickened into involving Rollings and his people, who Frank then killed (and I guess Jigsaw was the straggler he killed in S2); now this, some Italian mobsters he somehow forgot about back then and it took him like a decade to get through? And he STILL LEFT MA GUCCI ALIVE FOR NO REASON, leading to the events of this short film?
And also the third (or more) time he finally decides "yeah Imma expand my crusade to any and all criminals"? Again, DDS2, Punisher S1 and S2, DDBAS1, and now this.
Hell, he even dealt with the "nothing left to do" thing in his show, Season 1 ended with him in a support group, admitting that without a mission, now "I'm afraid". Did the support group fail so hilariously that now he's full schizo about it?
Just have him hunt criminals for the love of the game, Marvel, that's what he's supposed to do. One origin story is fine, why keep running it over and over?
Also while it's cool that they restored the Netflix continuity, it does cause some problems I think. Feels to me that trying to expand on the things from his graveyard monologue from DDS2, like "I was too tired to read the book to my daughter and then she died" thing cheapens them a little. And using footage from the Netflix shows during his mental freakout is confusing, since they use a shot of his wife being executed in their house that's not from reality, but from a hallucination/nightmare from his show. Someone will see this without knowing the old shows and think a spec ops team really did break into Frank's house and killed his family, rather than it being gangs at the park (orchestrated by corrupt military officials to get rid of Frank, but still).
But it was OK.
I liked that they showed niggers looting in the background during the chaos. Whites too, but having nigger looters at all is already uncharacteristically brave for Disney.

Vision Quest is supposedly dropping dropping in October. I guess it's a project that leads into Doomsday, otherwise it'd be out sooner.

Punisher special was alright, but it felt too short. Just as it seems it's getting started...it ends. Never watched the show on Netflix but it was easy enough to figure out the context.

There was a hilariously bad CGI shot as Frank falls from a higher roof onto a lower roof and crashes on top of a... I don't know the name, one of those metal boxes on roofs that are related to air conditioning or something.
They say it was just a bad or unfinished head replacement on a stuntman, but the whole shot looks very fake. Maybe it's the slowmo, maybe it's some smoothing they used, maybe it's other CGI elements in the shot, but it looks like a PS3 or PS4 model flailing while object geometry also overreacts to the collision.

It's so fucking weird that the bots on social media keep parroting that this special was needed so that Frank could "finally let his family go" and decide to "protect the innocent" as if Season 1 and Season 2 of his fucking show didn't already establish that.

Do you mean he chokes someone, or does he actually do it by kneeling on someone's back? Because you can't kill someone by kneeling on their upper back and if you're Colossus and somehow manage it, it wont be asphyxiation they die of.
I've no intention of watching this. I just want to know if anyone will point out it's unrealistic if he actually kills someone like George Floyd was "killed".

Punisher drags the last Gnucci son out of a limo, then he kneels down placing his knee on like the side of his neck. Ma Gnucci is in the limo and the son manages to spit out "I love you ma" before Punisher gets up and curbstomps him.
So no, it's not the knee itself that kills him and it's not even done the same way.
Also, did Bernthal Punisher always have that gaudy Marine tattoo? I feel like he didn't but I also don't remember many shirtless Frank scenes.

Making the punisher someone who has PTSD and cries all the time is not a great move. Bernthal is great but they are fucking him over

Jon did help write the special, so this is basically his vision for the character. Thankfully once that part was over it didn't rear its head again. A little bit is fine for character purposes, but we know why we like Punisher as a character and it's not just the family issues. It's the righteous fury.

Jon Bernthal never looked the part. As much a ginzo greaseball guinea wop as Frank Castiglione was (yes that's his real name), his facial features were never that daunting and garish, even under Ennis. The recent rabbinical beard as well is a terrible look on him, and why is he not always wearing the skull? Jane, Stevenson, even fucking Lundgren nailed the Punisher look, but to me, Bernthal just falls flat.

Yeah but the issue is that it’s over half of the special. The back half IS good, and sets up a new series well, but the beginning is a fucking slog

Nah, Bernthal fucking sucks. He has gotten more creative control with each consecutive outing and it is why there has been such a downward trajectory since Daredevil Season 2.
Bernthal is the epitome of the Punisher fan who just likes the skull and has a boner for Chris Kyle. It's why he is constantly going on about cops and soldiers whenever he has to talk about how important The Punisher is to him and why there has always been a heavy PTSD aspect to his version of the character.
