That's the weird thing, the actor is Hindu, the character is Muslim. The pandering in Ms. Marvel in general was weird, I say this as someone with an Indian homie.
All brown people are the same.

Hellboy, the reboot, suffered backlash when they considered a white guy for a character who was originally Japanese-American. Having a Korean play him, however, was hunky dorey.

A weird thing i don't seem people bringing up despite it probably going to be a big deal in about 3 weeks is the fact that the marvels centers around a muslim family. And in terms of muslim hate this is easily the worst time in the last century outside of 2001 to have your film be about a muslim girl and her family and their whacky space adventures. The fact disney isn't even attempting to move the fucking date on this screams no one's at the wheel. If you think A. they aren't going to be asking the dozen muslims in this film all about gaza if allowed or B. Any news watcher is going to sit back and enjoy a film about muslims during the biggest middle eastern invasion since iraq or C. the critics will be able to keep their politics out of reviewing such a film you're fucking insane.
Holy shit, I forgot about that (though the last thing on my mind the last week is Marvel capeshit). I won't be surprised if in the western world people suddenly realize that the "happy self sufficient muslim family" is an unrealistic cope.

Daimyo wasn’t even a Hapa in the comics. His father is a Hapa, whose grandmother was an Imperial Japanese Supervillain who fought the Hellboy version of Ghost Rider in WW2.

Daimyo is a 1/4 Nip who’s possessed by a Latin American spirit and is treated by a Chinese Witch Doctor.
If you castes a white with eye folds it would’ve been fine.

The seething never stops

None of this is a recent development and none of this is Marvel’s fault. Marvel’s Kevin Feige merely perfected a pre-existing system. Even if you’re a Marvel hater, it must be grudgingly admitted that escapist fantasies have always been a large part of what moviegoing is about, and that the MCU has given a great deal of pleasure to a whole lot of moviegoers in a crisis-haunted time.

Scorsese is 80 years old, and it galls him to know that the Marvel films through Avengers: Endgame represent a signature cultural event in the cinema of our time. When Marty is gone, and an entire body of work steeped in the belief that toxic masculinity is the organizing principle of the cosmos is reassessed, it will be interesting to see if his highly personal oeuvre can stake the same claim.

What an embarrassing article, I was never a real fan of the A.V. Club but they weren't publishing clickbait like this before their acquisition, and it's been a pretty long hard fall since the early-2010s. "The Irishman" may have stunk and "Killers of the Flower Moon" looks gay but I can't help but feel defensive towards Scorsese (and other directors) getting roasted in these cases by dishonest scum. And I do respect anyone who goes out of their way to save as much film history as Scorsese does.

It's like these capeshit apologists can't actually engage with what he really said and need to willfully misinterpret his statements to get mad at him. The only rebuttals I've seen of Scorsese's points have gone like this article: "Hollywood is run by toxic men/sociopaths and that’s bad! Unless the toxic man is Kevin Feige and he’s streamlining the system and churning out low performing superhero movies people don’t seem to want anymore?!? Wait what was my actual point?!?!!!!!!!!"

Some of the responses to Scorese and others in regard comic book movies have aquired their own formula, of which this one is the worst yet, these MovieBob-ish articles with their Intro to Film Studies understandings of movie history and the use of "social justice" terminology in defense of corporate products.

These guys defending capeshit don't seem to realize they're the ones clearly fighting a rear-guard action. The cultural cachet of capeshit and Star Wars has taken a nosedive since 2020. The Disney people got overconfident, they thought they had people sold on the brand, they let all of the big stars walk, and assumed things would just keep working, then strangely, somehow, all of the movies started doing worse.

What's funny is that these were the comments to that article highlighted by the AV Club staff.

I haven't watched any MCU since WandaVision. That had a great concept that was sadly mid in its execution when all the "MCU-" tropes kicked in (Had to have a big CGI fight at the end, had to have all this shit to set up other shit for other future shit, had to have strong women be strong women even if the main one is basically a monster). When I saw that, I knew it the MCU was basically over and decided to walk away.

Since then, they have pumped out tons of movies and shows, and nothing has caught my interest. I feel like I've missed nothing.

Is it though? It was cultural in memes, but I doubt it will have the same impact as any of the standard "top X" films had, especially as the previous film at least had somewhat a surprising ending while Endgame is the definition of a rollercoaster film. I can't see any sane person in 20 years watching 20+ films for a mediocre duology that doesn't advance cinema in any way.

Isn't Scorecese life work is films about men engaging in toxic masculinity and ending up destroying their own and loved ones lives?

It will probably end up like Avatar where nobody talks about it after a few years.

If I had to speculate the future, 2019 will be more remembered for Joker than any other film. The film was a massive deviation from any cape-film and became the highest grossing R movie. It was also the first “controversial” movie in years, getting massive outcry from the sources that usually lie about controversy and the angry Republicans with every other film.

Funny thing about Joker and cape-shit was the film would've fit perfectly in the late 1980ies to early 1990ies era Batman mainline comics as a "possible" origin story for him. Then there's Elseworlds' line which entirely exists on doing "what if" story ideas like it.

Not really, Avengers at most and only because it was a climax to something that was unthinkable at the time. And frankly, still seems unthinkable since every other attempt to replicate it has been mid at best.

FTFY

Avatar puts asses in seats, but nobody gives a shit about it after it's done. It's amazing how little cultural impact it has even though they are such blockbusters. Titanic has much more presence in the culture conscious than both avatars combined and after being out for an extra decade.

There's an entire generation of kids who grew up on the Marvel films. Its only a matter of time before the nostalgia boomerang comes around and reinvigorates the franchise.

By the same logic Westerners should have gotten a resurgence eventually. Today's children didn't have any buildup and they started from mediocre middle films and underwhelming ending that their parents probably had more connection to than them themselves. The children probably watch anime and play Genshin Impact.

They've already moved the movie at least twice already. It is also so close to release that it is probably logistically impossible to move it at this point. I don't know why you would think this movie would succeed if it was shown instead of gog3. I think Disney knows internally this movie is going to flop. It's better to keep it in this year of failure than start the new year with a bomb

Basically everyone BUT white guys...and Asians....and Mexicans...but DIVERSITY GUYS
Remember, these people only see the color of your skin. So they’ll let Randall Park, a Korean-American, play Jimmy Woo, a Chinese-American.

Or most of the cast of Black Panther being played by black Americans instead of Africans.

I wonder how well it would go over if Disney announced that they were pushing back the latest Marvel movie because they want to accommodate the needs of sensitive viewers who are triggered by the sight of Muslims.

The buckbroken Nigger larping as the chad African will never stop be amazing to me. It's like a guy who was raped mimicking his rapist.

The most straightforward thing to do is cut them being Pakistani. Just make them generic muslim libshits who pay lipservice for religion, like with Christians and Jews.

I don't if it was autocorrect, but I believe you mean Westerns.

I don't feel so good, Mahvels bros...?

Apparently the latest Marvel abortion is tracking for 80 Mil, about half of the first movies gross....

Cue the laugh track. You know what might help? An attractive lead that didn't repulse thirty something men. I've heard lots of praise towards Miss Muslim Hannah Montana Marvel. But she looks like the friend of the friend of the girl next door in as asexual of a costume as you can get. Teyonah Parris isn't helping matters. She actually isn't terrible looking, but non-white audiences (china, Korea) aren't friendly to black women and they minimize her sex appeal pretty bad going off the trailer. Nah, the real bad guy is Brie. Brie is a moderately attractive woman who if she hadn't poisoned the people these movies are targeting and had they hired someone decent; maybe the Marvels would have made money.

I tried watching Loki episodes 1 and 2 earlier, no joke on episode one I fell asleep briefly on the right arrow key. There is so much fucking talking and I do not care. It's 6 episodes long so it is going to be garbage. Tried to get into episode 2 but honestly did not give a shit after 5 minutes, went back to playing Baldur's Gate 3 because at least one has good writing.

Black Widow was a mess of wasted potential is what it was.
Ike Perlmutter is to blame imo. Doing the film only AFTER killing her off is the stupidest thing.
According to the recent book covering the mcu history he fought with everyone because he demanded Avengers be all men and pushed his shitty Inhumans crap hard.
On the bright side I genuinely think all four leads in BW had actual chemistry, something that rarely occurs with the other films. Making the head of the Red Room a Harvey Weinstein parody was retarded though. Really the best things to come out of the film were Florence Pugh and David Harbour. I am glad Yelena took on the mantle. Still pissed they killed Scarlett tho.
