The second one was pretty bad in hindsight. The added overexposure of Reynolds and his style with movies such as Free Guy and Detective Pikachu just runs his material into the ground. He plays the same character in every movie now, just some overly snarky a-hole you are supposed to like because he has a heart of gold. It doesn't help that he has been relying more-and-more on Reddit/Twitter humor, just making liberal jokes and showing he is a good ally.
After writing my post, I realized I didn't remember anything about DP2, except being annoyed by Domino. So I re-watched it, just finished 10 minutes ago.

You're right, it mostly doesn't hold up. It's reddit humor plus mild dick and ass jokes. The pop culture references are grating, and many scenes have long rambling dialog that doesn't work when people are just standing there listening. I had to fast-forward the longer dialogue scenes, when they try to both write a hackneyed story with lame lessons while also lampshading it.

Also, I didn't catch it at the time, but it mangles Deadpool's comic version's randomness into a steady string of... I hate to describe it in such a stereotypical way, but it really is stereotypical liberal smugness.

I didn't catch it in 2018, tuned out to the culture war stuff I guess. But this movie keeps choking down Tumblr-cum-Twitter garbage. Not mocking it, always as the basis for a bad joke.

"What's your superpower, cultural appropriation?"
"It's heaven here, Wade... we can have anything we want." "Can every day be International Women's Day?"
"Who hurt you? The pedophile mustache guy? Jared Kushner guy?" (referring to 2 henchmen behind the kid)
"I always thought the name X-men was sexist... be more inclusive!"

DP calls Cable racist for wanting to turn off Indian music in the cab. This becomes a stretched out bit with DP lecturing him about civil rights and multiculturalism. He references Cable being racist for the rest of the film, without a single reinforcing callback. Why? Random!

The big bad enemy is a balding Christian schoolmaster-turned-torturer, who DP descibes as "the pray the gay away type". He could be described as "comically evil", except it's the one thing in this movie not played for comedy. He just straight up electrocutes kids, and spouts pseudo-Bible verses at every opportunity.

The heroes call all his assistants pedophiles (without being edgy enough to show or imply anything like that). In hindsight that is some hilarious projection from the same group that nudges every character towards pansexuality with every joke. DP takes every opportunity to decry sexism against women, then hits on every male character and grabs Colossus' ass after Colossus forcibly moves his hand away.

(Granted, Wade was inappropriate like that in the comics... but he was equally inappropriate to both men and women. Domino is wandering around with her tits halfway out of her costume, and Wade never jokes about them once. Comic book DP would have made the proclamation against sexism as an excuse to hug her and cop a feel.)

I guess 2020 and the woke-ification of all the other movie franchises made me hyper aware of this stuff now. DP2 is still in the phase where they're pushing it, but not going all out. AFAIK nobody called them on it and they're probably going to be even worse in DP3.

It's not all bad. The action is still great, better than anything the MCU has done post-Endgame. The scenes with Wade and Vanessa work. The comedy is good when it's banter, not dialog; the snappy bouncing between multiple characters feels like the proper formula. Brolin's Cable manages to make a Liefeld over-the-top creation believable; I'd actually like to see him return for anything X-men related.

But this really should've been the end for Deadpool, it was clear they were losing the magic at this point. I have zero faith that the 5 years since then have improved what the studio or writers are able (or willing) to put out.

Are the X-Men even a huge draw at this point?
At least in the comics, the recent Hickman/Krakoa era has been (or at least was, for a while) the most popular the X-Men have been since maybe Morrison, and possibly the only line of comics that were selling well from Marvel. So much so that the writers refused to leave the new status quo behind to move onto the next act of the story, and Hickman had to quickly close down the plotlines that he could and bailed.
"It's heaven here, Wade... we can have anything we want." "Can every day be International Women's Day?"
"I always thought the name X-men was sexist... be more inclusive!"
The International Women's Day thing is a reference to the first movie, and the X-Men name one may be a jab at that stupid line from one of the shitty Jennifer Lawrence X-Men movies.

I think DP3 will be a great bow out for Jackman and Reynalds, whilst Deadpool 2 is not amazing it was still really fun and everyone acts their best. I like ZeZe she's great and I just think they wanted a different approach to Domino. Agree though DP2 is still a country mile better than anything post end game. I am just happy Morena Baccarin is confirmed for DP3 as scheduling issues were making it that she might not be able to be in it. Bitch is stunning and just a great actress she and Ryan have amazing chemistry.

If you watched Free Guy, you'd know it doesn't end. It pulls out more leftist jokes from what I can recall with Reynolds going on a whole speech about how women shouldn't be trophies or something. The reference humor is also god awful, with Reynolds having a le-epic Star Wars moment where he pulls out a light-saber, theme and all to defeat the bad guy. At this point, I just take Reynolds as a Gen-X/Millenial cope actor as the dude is in his 40s yet plays movie roles where he acts like a teenager while pulling out 80s nostalgia to dangle at the audience and giving liberal speeches to cover the obvious wishfullment.

Not excited for Deadpool 3, Reynolds has really just been regressing since Deadpool 1, Disney is now attatched, and Hugh Jackman just feels like a nostalgia bone to get people to watch what will likely be a messy outing.

I don't know if it's my general fatigue with capeshit or my love of the brown suit or what, but that outfit looks awful.

I think if Hugh was showing his bare arms it would look a lot better. It's obvious he didn't want to work out for this and needed a padded suit IMO.

I didn't expect him to wear the mask for the film, but I hope he has it on at least SOME point.

Then again, I'll probably skip this like I have everything since Endgame, so what the fuck do I care?

If you watched Free Guy
All I've seen from this film is a clip of Ryan's character pulling out Captain America's shield while various e-celebs, including JackSepticEye, cheer him on and the Avengers theme plays in the background. I'm not sure if it's actually real, but it was very cringey.

Deadpool 3 is being done by Shawn Levy who made the awful Free Guy, so low hope from me.
The series being hugely based off of Ryan Reynold's improv, which he is not allowed to do on this currently-shooting film because of the WGA strike, is another pretty bad sign.

I wonder how many people will die in the set of DP3 this time. Capeshit is so bad it claims lives.
To my knowledge, this time they're not forcing any stunt artist to do their stunts without a helmet so we can see the glorious Natural African Hair, a completely essential element of a character, not in any way raceswapped, and a necessary risk to take.

Bad thing is at least in the rodeo, the riders and clowns wear helmets under their hats and clown wigs. To say Hollywood can't even to do that to put a hair wig over a helmet is beyond them. Or the DP2 producers likely had cheap out and didn't bother to get and use those for "authenticity's" sake make that death more heinous.

Just put a green mask, I have seen making off videos where the stuntman is just wearing a green mask to be replaced with the actor's face through CGI, Very simple stuff.

The poor woman died because of social justice. A very sad and ironic tragedy.
