At this point, is it worth it for a newbie like me to get into Marvel comics?

I’ve picked up a few others from DC but only really popular and critically acclaimed works like Batman’s The Killing Joke, The Long Halloween (was reading that one recently and almost through with it), Alan Moore’s Watchmen and V for Vendetta, and Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.

Are there any rivals the quality of these?
In addition to the other suggestions, I would Frank Miller's Daredevil/Elektra work, Garth Ennis' Punisher, X-Statix by Peter Milligan and Michael Allred, John Bryne's She Hulk, Walt Simonson's Hulk, and Steve Gerber's Howard the Duck. I'm much more of a DC fan, but Marvel does have some good work. The biggest problem I think is that don't have a great deal of stand alone comics like Watchmen or Dark Knight Returns that newbies can read without a lot of previous knowledge.

Around the time of Thor: Love & Thunder, there was a Thor fan on 4chan who recommended me some standalone Thor comics, I personally recommend them.

Astonishing Thor
Thor: For Asgard
Thor: The Deviants Saga
Thor: Wolves of the North

By the way, my memory could be wrong, but one of the above (I think the Deviants Saga) require you to read Thor: Fear Itself arc, but I did it anyway with just the knowledge that it's set after that.

There's also another one, but it's not standalone but a sort of side-story in a Thor 1966. It's called Thor: Alone Against the Celestials & you just have to read issues #387-389.

Was Reign good? IDK why they consider it the "most infamous Spidey story" when there are like 25 of those

I'm afraid to ask, but what is this referencing? Will Miles make a pact with satan to get some purple drank?
Apparently spiderman reign, aka the story where Peter killed mary jane with his radioactive Spider Spooge, editorial wont touch OMD until autistic JMS fans lead editorial like Quesada did

Guess I'll wait for a farmer that read it to give us a funny summary and to tell us what the point of it was cause what you wrote is giving me 0 desire to search about it

No that's the jizzt of it.

MJ died of cancer because of prolonged exposure to radiation; the idea is that Peter is radioactive in and of himself, and just being with him for so long gave her cancer.
But people focus on the radioactive cum because of these lines about bodily fluids and loving me:

... that does definitely not land like the writer probably intended... And any reason why we got ol man McPeter there? Does he also have cancer aids? Is this one of those dodgy what if stories?

The story is about Peter being old and miserable and (I think) retired after MJ's death, the city being under a totalitarian regime, and some of the main characters are Sandman, who's sort of a reluctant enforcer for this regime, and his daughter, who has concrete powers (which led to people on the Internet calling her Cement Loli) and stands up to the regime. In the end, Peter returns to fight, and the villain turns out to be Venom, who takes control of the whole city. I don't remember much more, since I read it ages ago. Something about JJJ getting beat up by the regime's police, maybe?

I recall quite liking the story, in that "last stand in a bad future" kind of way, but all it gets remembered for is the radioactive spider-cum.

Two unrelated observations that strike me as funny about the MCU.

CRITICIZING DISNEY+ 'SECRET INVASION' IS ATTACKING JEWISH REPRESENTATION.

(Am too lazy to bother making a meme of this on a website that only elite cyptography hacker dudes can access a lot of the time. Feel free to steal it.)

1. The Skrulls fled genocide and find a society that shelters them.
2. They infiltrate powerful positions in that society.
3. They seek to make it their own homeland.
4. They are green-skinned reptilian hominids.
5. They can shapeshift.

I MEAN C'MON!

CAPTAIN MARVEL WAS ACTUALLY A BIG STEP BACKWARDS FOR REPRESENTATION

This is a doozy and I'm surprised the left wing didn't pick up on this or the right wing troll them with it.

I was reading the wikipedia page for Capt. Marvel. I don't read comics due to being an adult. The history and meaning of the name Capt. Marvel is massively convoluted within and beyond the Marvel comics. So many characters are at some point called Capt. Marvel / Ms. Marvel .

It looks like Monica Rambeau is 'the' Captain Marvel for longer than Carol Danvers. So Disney arguably whitewashed Capt. Marvel by picking Danvers for the movie.

There was so much hype about this movie being an identity politics milestone. Smooth-brained school teachers took their students to see it. It's not the first female superhero movie and not the first action movie led by a woman.

Disney marketing pulled massive slight of hand in presenting this as progressive. Same with Black Panther who is not even the first black MARVEL comicbook superhero to get a movie.

In pushing a White Woman™ to the front of the line, they didn't rob the spotlight only from a Black WomanⓇ, but also from a Neurodivergent Man©, and a Lesbian Woman℠.

A truly devastating defeat for Racial, Sexual, and Neurodiversity RepresentationⓊ, and a victory for Neurotypical Biological Female White Supremacy℗.

What's your opinion Guardians 3? I watched it last night and I enjoyed it... I don't watch capeshit anymore but I like it, also holy fuck its a dark movie! Also holy fuck the villian in that one is better than Niggo or Kong or something.

Also secret invasion is a jewish allegory. Long nose, goblin look alike, shifty motherfuckers....

I always like it when authors remember Jonah has a bit of journalistic integrity in him and often ends up on the receiving end of the villain's ire as a result of that.
If I remember correctly the original Sam Raimy Spiderman films did his character perfectly with him being an asshole that would defend his workers when things actually matter.
Then the nu-Marvel had him be an Alex Jones ripoff for some reason.
The Insomniac games were especially bad with him being supposedly a stupid person because he constantly talks about it might not be a good idea to give an unknown person carte blanche with beating up random people and causing ton of damage in the process (seriously, fucking Power Puff Girls laughed at this 2 decades ago).

I'll always like the time he yelled at Godzilla
Think I missed that one.

I think that kind of tied in with their "don't you use social media" pop at Captain America during Civil War. They wanted a reference "the kids" could understand, not realising that if you do something well enough it becomes the reference itself. I suppose that should have been a warning for things to come.

That's one of my favorite scenes in the original movie. Jonah could've ratted Peter out easily, but lied to the Green Goblin's face to protect his employee and shows he really has a good heart despite his gruff exterior.

Pretty sure the change was because it's forbidden nowadays to even imply that establishment news media has bias (unless it's Fox) so they just made JJJ crazy radio guy and used Alex as "doubleplus ungood" persona.
In general all of the changes to Spiderman are just bad. MJ as a scientist is pointless, and her being a journalist is a worse Lois Lane. Aunt May being the head of a charity removes the entire "broke as shit" character aspect (which was one of the cornerstones of Spidey).

Comic book characters are just forbidden nowadays from being in any way relatable. It's all Ubermensch to prevent the lower castes from getting any funny ideas. "What, your elderly aunt doesn't run a 100M dollar compound in the center of NY to feed the homeless?".
