Did She Hulk break the fourth wall to this degree in the comics, or was it more commentary and sarcasm? I see a lot people doing smug "it's comic accurate HEH" hot takes, but none of them seem to mention any situations where the entire story is thrown out...
I never really read she hulk comics, but this is a fairly well-known panel from one them.

Yeah - it's not always been there but a little fourth wall breaking has been part of She-Hulk enough that you can't say it's not true to the comics to have it in the show. Especially when the show is more modelled on classic She-Hulk comics than the moody grey re-invention they tried of her a while back.

You also have some meta stuff where a particularly infamous comic panel of her in bed with Juggernaut is actually shown in a later comic, in court. It's kind of a running joke that everybody thinks she did it with Juggernaut.

EDIT: Come to think of it, didn't they tease Hercules at the end of Thor 4? If he is brought into the MCU then it's almost mandatory that he and Jen get together. It's kind of a thing.

The fourth wall-breaking stuff is fine, it just feels a bit pointless and cheap to throw away all the stuff you've built up for a gag. Hopefully if they get a second season they'll get some decent legal fiction writers.

MCU fans love to be smug when the movies are unfaithful to the only good aspects and shockingly faithful to the shittiest aspects

At one point she runs through a hole torn in a page, across an ad for mail order back issue comics, and into the next scene

For the most part it’s used for commentary, sarcasm, or traveling to other places by jumping between comic panels

The term isn't for manchildren though, the only people who use it are fart sniffers who want to divulge themselves from the "lowly" comic crowd.
In general "making up a sophisticated term" is reserved for people who want to appear smarter than the masses.
Late reply on this but... Potato tomato, both are the same breed of faggots.

The fedora fart sniffers believe their own horseshit while the soyjaks use it to deflect when the shame at shoving a funko pop up their ass rears it's head when interacting with people that don't give a shit.

I'll say it once, I'll say it a million times

Just because it was in the comics doesn't mean it works or is good.

Or fucking translates. She broke the fourth wall in the Byrne run. It worked there because John was using if artistically.

For a Marvel television example, Legion. Legion is She-hulk done right, in terms of meta textual and experimental creativity. It broke narrative walls, was true to the source material, and translated it in a way that made sense.

The television show took the worst aspects of the twenty or so incarnations (yes, She-hulk is a cult classic character with sizable fanbase to the point where they've made fan films about her).

It's not whether it's accurate or not to the comic, the question is whether it is good. For example, her outfit on the show is from the modern, woke comics. It's also visually boring.

One of her dozen or so series and out of billions of panels. Most of her appearances aren't like this.

But note how John uses the conventional structure of paneling. He's using the conventions of art structure to tell a story. It's different than having Jennifer punch a whole in the Disney logo and then walk around talking to boring and fat people about how shitty and formulaic Marvel is. Dig below the criticism, what was underneath?

Ultimately, I think it goes to the old adage, "you need to know the rules in order to break them."

Jessica Gao isn't smart enough or experienced enough to run a show like She-Hulk. She just doesn't grasp the fundamental rules of writing plot, character and jokes. The whole thing feels sloppy (like most Disney+ shows, but I digress), so when she finally gets around to her fourth wall breaking episode, it doesn't feel earned or satisfying in any way.

If the show was really leading up to that, ideally they would have introduced the writers in an earlier episode. Maybe make the whole IP plot about the writers adapting Jennifer's story for a television show. The writers air a show dramatizing a court case She-Hulk's currently arguing. She-Hulk confronts them and does her dumb She-Hulk thing. She storms out. In subsequent episodes, everything starts going to shit in her life, culminating in a no-win situation in the finale. She-Hulk suddenly thinks to herself, "wait a minute..." and goes and confronts the writers. It turns out everything after when She-Hulk confronted the writers was their dramatization and in reality She-Hulk's life has been going pretty well for the past four episodes. Reset the back half of the season, new norm for season 2.

Its not great, but, you know, it actually lays the groundwork for breaking the fourth wall in the finale so it doesn't feel like a lazy asspull.

And for those who say you can't break the fourth wall on television, I just want to remind you that House of Cards did it brilliantly in its first two seasons:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=6z5Pv2WZrho pillar of garbage, capeshit youtuber, is versusing critical drinker over she-hulk. makes me really nostalgic for headlines about pearly habor and d-day
The shilling in the comments & the video to an extent itself, reminds me of this. Except the comments are even worse on that one, cause there's even more shilling than the amounts calling out said shilling, because TCD doesn't have a fanbase the size of Pewds to laugh at retarded simping.

Edit:
He called all SW fans racist over a collage to simp for Reva from Kenobi series. He also says that there's a problem with ‘erasure’ in Disney, when Disney has been pandering to people of color more than ever in the history of their companies. All because Reva's actress once said there are no minorities in SW before, despite admitting later that she never saw SW before, & only saw the Prequels after being casted as Reva. There's also some collage being the reason behind it.

A lite version of Mauler, called Smudcast called it out.
Here are more of them, but there are embedding limits:

They're not the only one who called PoG out on this:

PoG bitched about "content stealing" & dilated over joke about his latte, indirectly calling him an urbanite soyboy. He also bitched about fair-use (of a fucking YT video). He labelled the Smudcast as Alt-right too, without explaining why.

Smudcast called it out:

He also might've doxxed himself supposedly, but I've yet to find it.

>The guy doesn't know that the blood transfusion thing is from the comics. He just thinks TCD made it on the spot as a fanfic.

>He's extremely biased & you can tell that from the comments he gives hearts to, & the ones without hearts, his shills reply using buzzword labels for people calling them out such as fanboys, incels, alt-right, etc. In fact, in the video itself, he indirectly says that TCD "comes off" as a predator apologist (not the movie kind) because TCD believes that the shitty catcalling scene is so pathetic that it doesn't feel like harassment.

>The guest, TSD Talks, is even worse. If the main guy is a capeshitting consoomer, then the guest is a borderline redditor who's passive aggressive nature & bitchy voice is probably one of the worst parts of the video.

I looked more into it just his voice felt like a sign of things, & turns out, he's an Enbie (non-binary, He/They). So if you're wondering where the retardation comes from, it's cause he's a borderline tranny.

>He's making some copium fanfic for the whole "infinitely better than you at anger management" scene. He's also defending it heavily on the comments.

This has the usual opposite reaction & people became even bigger Drinkers.

One of the biggest issues behind this is that the video is extremely hypocritical, biased & almost a hate piece on him, to the point & makes TCD look right (he kinda is).

TL;DR: Capeshitting shills & consoomers are retarded.

If you think this is the worst part of Critical Drinker hate lore, you should see Organized Chaos. That channel is even worse by being against TCD & his friends since this whole year, & it's pretty blatant that it's all due to his channel dying. In fact, most people who try to "call out" TCD turn out to be either, Twittards, Redditors, or dying/unpopular channels.
