It's no surprise that a workforce that believes men can be women and that niggers have a history buy into their own hype and myth of invincibility.
When I saw black at Bungie, I knew the end was near. Then when I saw trans at Bungie, I knew it was over.

It's surprising to me, because it feels like the drop should be levelling off by now. Like we should be seeing declines of 3k or 4k week-on-week, and instead if you compare this tuesday to last it's a ten-thousand drop week over week.

I think about their old 'building a train station vs. building a train, don't overdeliver' stuff when I think aobut this. The problem is, to start a new live service? You really do need to overdeliver, at least at first.
Cryo is a Destiny style raid where the real reward is you burn through your player population faster each week

If anyone wants to hear more of the story behind these groups, I recommend Rodeo Roadrunner's post earlier in the thread.
For posterity, these seem to be missing the George Floyd dedication/humiliation ritual they did at the beginning of one of their livestreams :story:

If I was granted one use of TRUTH SIGHT which would let me know everything about something, I would absolutely waste it on "how many leftists are secretly fed up of this obvious pandering shit?"

S2 needs to double the amount of maps, and quadruple the amount of tasks. The tasks are the best part of the game. PvP for the sake of PvP never feels good in an extraction shooter, nobody wants to spend 10 minutes putting a kit together, to spend a minute in queue, to spend the next 10 minutes looking for a fight that could end in .5 seconds. there are better games for this.
this is the thing nobody fucking understands about extraction shooters. the pvp is fun because it's goal oriented. just making a fucking goal to kill people doesn't accomplish that and these absolute mongoloids in charge can't rub their brain cells together to figure out why these games aren't getting as popular as tarkov was in 2021. It's not because of covid, it's because THE GAME DIDN'T MAKE YOU KILL YOURSELF OVER AND OVER AGAIN SO YOU CAN FEED OTHER PEOPLE'S QUESTS

like the second tarkov wipe i ever played i did the entire punisher questline and got the epsilon container. At that point in the game the punisher was possibly the most bullshit quest in the game because it was really the only quest that required you to kill 10+ players with shotguns on specific maps - and it was generally considered optional unless you wanted the epsilon container or were going for completionist. They called it "the punisher" because it was punishing. They called it "bullshit" because it was absolute bullshit. Now those aren't even hard quests, every other quest you get is some completely arbitrary PVP bait setup where you just have to pull your pants down and wave your dick around for 45 seconds in the open and hope nobody with a quest to kill 30 dudes with a sniper rifle is camping the Dick Waving Spot.

the problem is tasks that aren't just 'kill 10 dudes' require world building and nikkita has no concept of the world of tarkov outside of the immediate power fantasy of being a loaded PMC. And marathon purposefully gutted all of that stuff out of their art design

It’s going to kill it a lot faster this time, I think. The first Cryo release gave players weeks to build gear and stockpile consumables. We had enough runway that most people could fail raids the entire weekend, but now there’s barely five days to prepare. People will get locked out of the map from repeated failure. Cryo weekends will be cut short for the average player.

I truly believe that very few players can take a loss, own it, and keep coming back. Most people need something to point at for losing such as RNG, lag, bad timing, really anything but themselves. In games where variance plays a big role, like Magic the Gathering or poker, that’s part of the appeal. Skill matters, but eventually every dog will have his day and until then they can just blame it on luck.

Cryo is going to feel brutally punishing for the average player in following weeks, it’s going to expose the gap pretty clearly between the unemployed and regular people. People with budget kits are going to get slimed the fuck out by people in yellow kits. The normal folk wont have time in the regular work week to catch up. That whole "better luck next time" kind of delusion wont last under these conditions.

People are going to have to face up to being mediocre or shit and they wont stick around to get better.

The strangest thing about Marathon to me is that it doesn't have a whole bunch of different game modes right out of the gate, to try to appeal to a larger audience. Even Destiny had a bunch of multiplayer modes, and it was always a game where PvE enjoyers were the majority.
As an unironic Gambit enjoyer I want to say that Bungie is bad in supporting their game modes. Even PvP which always had decent population especially when content becomes dry didn't receive new maps (even more Bungie removed maps) for like 3 or 4 years straight. So, even if I was a Marathon player, I am not sure whether I would want new games modes.

That's the thing I don't get about locking the big dick raid to weekends only. Why would the normies, whom Bungie presumably want to court, want to smash their heads against an immovable wall when you're free to make slow and steady progress without being gated in other, contemporary extraction shooters like ARC or even Tarkov, which doesn't even deign to gate you to a weekend?

Whats even more baffling is, because of the mandatory 3 month wipe, getting back to the same big dick raid you completed last season will involve all that RNG grinding all over again. The biggest problem with Marathon is it simply doesn't respect your time. Bungie could get away with that when the shooter pool was much smaller, but that simply isn't the case anymore, and they don't command that kind of brand loyalty anymore.

if I had to guess I think they were worried about 1 or 2 things.

the loot in cryo is absurd. You get purple gear in your very first pve encounter and every subsequent encounter. if you leave cryo every item in your bag will be purple and every equipment slot will be no different. I could imagine there is a real concern with ruining the games economy and loop if this map was made available 24/7.

You also need to have about 5k in kit to queue for it. Because you’re risking an actual kit, you won’t want to do this with randos. There just aren’t as many people Queuing for Cryo as there are other maps as a result. I imagine that time gating it to specific days has the benefit of reducing queue times, every one who wants to play is forcibly organized into matching with other players. who knows how long the queue might be if players didnt have to wait.

im pretty sure in 2021 tarkov was pulling in a million concurrent players. nikkita is just a predatory conman and he full well understood that he did not have the skills to steer the game into global success. so he paid for AWS hosting to smooth the curve while the game fell out of popularity instead of doing anything to retain any long term playerbase and told the most productive lies to his gimp slaves until he could scribble some pathetic contemporary tom clancy fanfiction on a napkin and force it into their ball gags as a "1.0 release"

bungie somehow does not see this even though tarkov fell into a ravine and dug itself into a cave so nikkita can chain hackers to a wall and milk them for cum. I fully believe that the people in charge of bungie do not see this sadistic and manipulative scenario playing out in real time because they are faggots, so they are completely blinded to the fact that they are trying to out-manipulate a sadist at their own game. there is literally no other thing a sadist wants in life than to create this scenario. you are not going to have a good time if you find yourself there.

There might be a bit of a rally at S2, but it won’t last a week.
Seems unlikely given the S2 roadmap only included night time Dire Marsh. How likely is Bungie (AKA "beware of overdeliver") to actually surprise their customers.

And a (pre-maintenance) trough just barely holding above 10k.
I'm sure it was going to hit below 10k if it wasn't for the maintenance.

New class, some kind of runner customizer, new items, and 'new' map

i have a have a hard time believing that we will have to retread the exact same story beats. it doesn’t make sense at all. each faction has like 15 to 20 tasks that are story driven. I have to imagine that with a new map comes a whole new set of tasks that further develops the story.

the new map itself I believe will be like how Tarkov expands its maps. A map like Customs was basically a bridge, a dorm, a gas station, and a couple of ware houses before they basically quadrupled the size of it by allowing players to explore the out of bounds areas.

The maps in Marathon all have segments like this where there could be more, but we just aren’t allowed to explore that space.

new map and new locations also mean new tasks.

Just having new tasks would motivate me to pick it up again, but ive got better things to do than be sent back to my stash on repeat from mindlessly hunting down people in PvP.
Who knows though, maybe Bungie just said fuck it “dim the lights” and that’s the update. @

You need to attract cannon fodder for pvpve otherwise you just have late game tarkov where it turns into a cock fighting ring for people who are trying to chase the dopamine high of clearing lobbies and it becomes intolerable to play unless you're trying to do the same thing

it feels like the drop should be levelling off by now.
I think we'll see 38k high next week
Then a more significant drop. Maybe even hitting the high 20ks
The lows under 10k easy.

What you are seeing is the friend drop. The people who group up as friends to play it online and just chill. One of the friends decided "ehhh I'm not really about this game anymore go on without me."
The other friends are honestly feeling the same way, but as long as they were having fun together they didn't care.
That's starting to fall apart now. So we're gonna see even lower highs in the next week or two. As those who were mostly doing it for the same reasons decide to go play something else.
