Slytherin aren't so much simply evil even if Rowling ended up playing it that way, it's more accurately associated with cunning, ambition, and suspicion/skepticism, these are the smooth operators who play their cards to get what they want and not get got, as well as a side of cheat-to-win at their extremes.

Slytherins should be schmoozers, schemers and tryhards.
Rowling made them jew-coded, based. I'm sorting myself into Ravenclaw because the rest are either jews, snitches, or retards.

What? Aren’t they an analog to Aryans or Nazis?
Another Rowling L. She wanted to have her cake and eat it too on Slytherins being both the conniving subversive back-biters who play any cheap trick to win in the end, and also the chad-faced supremacists who insist on being just born better than everyone else. Which I'm sure is how she actually views that supremacist position as lacking any self-awareness of their own underhanded cowardice in needing to cheat in order to win even while claiming fundamental superiority, but that doesn't map onto how much of the forces of Nazism operated on a principled sense of honor towards things and people that they thought had earned it.

She ruined a lot of her best stuff this way, by insisting on cartoonish takes on things that could have had real nuance.

British Blue Bloods actually. Americans have a hard time understanding how huge social class is in the UK. Its a borderline caste system, where a person's social class can be determined by their accent.

Yes, the social classes in the UK are so distinct they speak different.

Slytherins were essentially Rowling taking the piss out of Aristocratic families.

The closest we have in the US are coastal elites, and more regionally, the WASP families of New England. They embody that elitism Rowling hated deeply.

She manages to undermine even that take, what with Harry being defacto nobility, Ron also, and Nevil. Ditto for the major leaders of the resistance against the evil wizards - the whole war is one big noble civil war.

This thread has an enjoyable niche compared to Rowling Derangement Syndrome, where you can criticize Rowling's shit writing without having a bunch of people jumping all over you and defending m'lady

look i read all the books as a kid they're pretty decent and people still talk about them to this day but one think i say that seems to piss people off is that there's literally zero world building. there's seven fucking books and, like, four locations. the only places that are actual locations that get visited more than once are hogwarts, the weasleys house, the phoenix house, and hogsmeade, and the rest of them are liminal spaces that purely serve a narrative purpose that are purposefully left scant on detail

Damn, first the constitutional monarchism result and now this

He's only a Hufflepuff if you ignore his badassification in the 5th book. He holds everyone together at Hogwards in the 7th book while Harry's doing the main plot stuff.
That’s what makes him work better as a Hufflepuff. He was loyal to a fault and always willing to support his friends even if it meant trouble for him. The real payoff would’ve been him pulling the sword out of the sorting hat to kill Nagini even tho he isn’t a Gryffindor. It would’ve established a better throughline that is present in most of Rowling characters: it doesn’t matter what others think of you- what’s important is that you stand up for what you believe. Neville getting the sword as a Gryffindor is a no brainer. It shows up to Gryffindor’s in need. As a Hufflepuff it tells the reader that anyone can be brave, what matters is that someone has to step up to do the right thing.

The difference is that the Potters, Weaselys, and (I think) Longbottoms don’t buy into the wizard supremacy. Lily Potter is muggle born, the Weasleys are portrayed as this sort you see in a lot of small towns: a family that can go back countless generations but never attained the social mobility to be considered the aristocracy. It reminds me of like small town America hill people. They have a social standing in their communities but would never attained something like political office because they’re known as the poor people. In addition to this Arthur Weasley is a muggle simp and is ostracized for it. Harry and Neville get their lives stripped altered forever because of the shit that Voldemort pulls. Harry has to struggle a bit with the idea of finally attaining power due to his upbringing but doesn’t go in with Voldemort’s thinking because he’s a good person.

Rowling’s biggest issue was not diversifying the cast amongst the houses and I think she said in interviews it was because she struggled with finding ways to bring the cast together when they were always separate. By keeping them unified she doesn’t have that issue.

I think the solution was to just have the common areas be according to your year and then have them separate further by house. It’s a magic castle you could have them connect through magic very easily. It doesn’t have to make sense.

So I got a question for anyone who actually has ship knowledge:

Why this over Draco/Hermione? As in, what's the difference that's making this appealing in comparison?
i think this appeals to a new generation of youth because none of the girls were tsundere in the original and these days women are militant and insane so the assortment of nice quiet girls in the book like luna lovegood and cho chang aren't exactly appealing

Yo how come wizards never summon big titty succubus and shit? This wizard world is gay and stupid. I would use my wizard magic to get me fat stacks and enslave niggas with like, illegal jew magic.

There has been an incredible lack of male centered heterosexual content in pop culture spaces. Mainly because hetero sexual males are too busy working their butts off to spend their time writing fan fic or doing art. Which has left this sort of hobby niche the exclusive preserve of bored housewives, or terminally online shut in troons on social benefits.

Someone in this thread (cant remember who, sorry) opined that AI is a major driving of this phenomenon, because it allows the working man to spend an hour generating some content where before it would have taken all day. More competent artists, noticing a trend, start doing their own drawings and shit just snowballed.

This pairing was actually stupidly popular back in the day too, because you had the straighlaced girl essentially get with the rich bad boy ala of fifty shades of Grey. It was extremely popular back in the day for the same reason that this one was.

Basically the idea is you can fix them or in this case round off the edges. This one works for the same reason mainly because the vast majority of people do not want to see gay people kiss.

Anyways, my thread tax is the following idea: if we're going to go with the idea of Luna being the noticer, and for Xenophilius being the equivalent of Alex Jones, what would be the Quibbler's equivalent to the Sandy Hook incident? And how many grillions of galleons will the goblin run courts force them to pay?
