Sorry about you losing your job!

But yeah, as much as I like using oil as a skin moisturizer, I stop at oil cleansing or not shampooing my hair. I know not shampooing is good thing for curly haired people to do, but my hair is merely wavy. I can only go like 2 days without shampooing without feeling uncomfortably grungy. Using oil as a facial moisturizer during dry weather feels phenomenal, though. I layer it with a normal facial moisturizer in the winter for extra moisture.

It's all good--that was back in 2007! I was still in high school so it wasn't too terrible. I have fine, thick hair and wash every other day, sometimes two. It didn't get very cold here this winter and I'm very careful about moisturizers. I actually have some scars on my neck that I think are a combined irritation of cold winter air, wind, and one of my wool/silk scarves that irritated the fuck out of it.

For whatever reason I have a very hard time focusing with greasy/dirty hair. It's such a weirdly unique feeling.

I'm currently dealing with ridiculous hangnails. I spent last week hanging out at GDC and after all the hand shaking and touching demos and going out my fingers are destroyed. I've been applying my rosebud salve. When I worked in a property office managing records I used to have the WORST hangnails. All that paper sucks the moisture out of you, I swear.

BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T PUT IN THE OVEN!

I've tried oil cleansing before, it doesn't work for me because i'm so greasy naturally. I use Cetaphil cleanser with a Clarisonic, Stridex and then Cetaphil lotion.
I wouldn't even try not shampooing my hair. It would literally be in clumps and I hate being dirty. I use Delorenzo violet shampoo and Redken All Soft Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment a couple of times a week.

So hey, you know how a while back I mentioned that I was learning to sew?

Well, you'll (hopefully) be happy to know that I've more or less finished my first sewing project! It doesn't look amazing, but for a first try I'm honestly pretty proud of it.

It's a cosplay piece. Specifically, it's the skirt worn by Homestuck's Kanaya Maryam. Here's what she looks like, skirt and all:

And here's my attempt at the skirt! It's actually a dress that I got at a thrift store and modified, but since I'll be wearing a top over it (obviously), that shouldn't be an issue.

(The colors are more true-to-life in the second pic. Better lighting.)

I decided to use a darker fabric for the layered portion. This was partly because it was all I had on me (I cannibalized it from a skirt I never really wore), but also partly because I thought it'd look a bit nicer that way. I also used white thread instead of red, which was obviously a mistake but I didn't feel like looking for any red thread. I'm a lazy fuck at heart, what can I say.

I just need to add the buttons and it'll be done! Like I said, I know it's far from amazing, and I definitely plan to remake it once I get better at sewing, but I'm still pretty damn proud.

Also, I've never tried oil cleansing, but regarding shampoo...I try to only shampoo my hair once or twice a week, tops. Obviously I shower or bathe daily, and I do condition my hair on a daily basis, but I try to shampoo it as little as possible--generally only if I've been exercising a lot and my hair is gross and sweaty. That's because my hair is naturally very dry, and shampoo just dries it out further.

How does your hair feel after that? Showering but not shampooing? I have generally oily hair and so I've also tried to skip shampooing to try to get it to not produce so much oil - rebalance it and whatnot. Unfortunately, every time I shower it winds up feeling all stripped and dry when I wet it. I assume we have hard water, and getting a softener isn't feasible for a while. And when I try to shower but keep it from getting wet, it still gets damp from the steam.

I also live in the desert, so we sweat pretty much daily. It always feels so gross skipping shampoos when you've sweat during the day. I've also been trying dry shampoo and that helps some times, but then, it irritates my scalp - causing dandruff, and I just can't win. :/

Oily hair is dumb. :C

Have you tried fitting your shower head with a shower filter? It takes out the chlorine and chloramines from the water, so I find that I have less frizzy hair when I use it.

And I used to have to wash my hair daily when I used non-natural shampoo/conditioner. The strong surfactants in the shampoo just stripped oil so much from my hair that it got frizzy-dry, and I would have to use silicone-filled conditioner to not make it frizz, but this also made my hair greasy within a day. "Natural" shampoos don't have as harsh surfactants on the hair, so I find that my hair is less greasy because it's not getting stripped everyday. And "natural" conditioners actually moisturize the hair rather than just leaving a petrochemical layer on the shaft to try to smooth it out at a superficial level.

For natural shampoos and conditioners, I recommended Acure Organics (particularly the products in the orange containers for oily hair) and SheaMoisture. Both have decent price points at $10 or less. Acure can be found at most natural grocery stores, and SheaMoisture can even be found in Walmart, Target, or Kroger stores. Or you can just buy them online.

Sorry for the sperging; natural beauty products are something I have a deep interest in, apparently. :)

Im weird with my fashion because I used to wear normal clothes with like short shorts and flannel shirts and sundresses but now I don't. I've become big on outwear and hoods, oversized clothes and stuff like that cuz I just started hating my body more and more. Here's some of my more recent additions to my wardrobe.

And yes I am a weeb cuz I bought them all from yesstyle which is an Asian online store.

See, mine is super dry, so I feel a lot grosser when I do shampoo it (especially if, for whatever reason, I can't condition it after--blech!).

I do agree on the sweat thing, though. I shampoo a lot more often when it's hot out, or when I do a lot of exercising. And obviously if something gross gets in my hair I'll wash the fuck outta it. But overall I find that shampooing it just makes it super dry and super icky to touch.

And @Pandas Galore, I feel ya on the outerwear thing. I've become a major sweater addict lately! (I should take a pic of my collection...)

So I've been burning this candle I got in my April Popsugar Must Have subscription box. It smells all fruity and I enjoy it. Its scent reminds me of the Bath and Body Works candles I used to burn before I became environmentally friendly and got all paranoid of synthetic fragrances and petrochemicals.

Man, that reminds me, my friend gave me a bunch of nail polish, some lovely lotion, and some body spray for my birthday. The spray smells fruity, and the lotion is this great lavender-vanilla blend! It's awesome, since my feet get dry a lot and having a thing of lotion on hand is nice.

That's the problem with subscription boxes, even if they aren't beauty ones. Eventually you become saturated with way more stuff than you could possibly use. Yeah, you could swap stuff for things you might actually use, but to what extent? I do suppose you can give surplus away as gifts...

My parents came up to my uni to visit and take care of some business for the weekend, I took advantage and am now the owner of these cutes.

1 was on sale, the other was on clearance, score.

I have wide feet though, so a lot of flats give me cuts and shit. These are looking somewhat okay so far, I might have to wear no-show socks with them to be safe, though.

I have relatively average-to-not-exactly-narrow feet but from the three years I did on the floor in retail (plus ballet) I have a minor bunion and tailor's bunion. Most of my shoes have stretched to accommodate but every now and then I'll put a pair on that haven't. :cryblood:

I'm considering heading to Sephora to use my coupon. Even though it's only 10% I absolutely hate shopping online and I want a couple smaller duos or quads anyway.

@chimpchan I think you're into purses, correct? I just acquired a vintage (late 80s/early 90s) Chanel mini flap. Goodbye :tugboat:, I hardly knew ye.

So... I went to Target this morning...

Pah-hahaha! Now you have a long neck for opening long necks.

Me Too is a super comfy brand! The high heels I wore on my wedding day were Me Too, and I managed to wear them all day without feeling the need to chop off my feet afterward.

Those shoes are sooo comfy. I might have to buy from this brand more often.

Oh god, don't even talk about wedding high heels. I was a bridesmaid for my sister's wedding, and the shoes she made us wear were from the furthest depths of hell. It got so bad that I had to go buy flat sandals and a pack of band-aids for the reception because I nearly twisted my ankle from stepping wrong, plus multiple cuts and blisters. :( No amount of cushion stickers saved those shoes.

As much as I like wearing TOMs, I can't wear them very often because they have little foot support for my super flat feet. :heart-empty:

When I worked retail pulling items from five floors of a dept store I had both the regular style and the ballet flats because I wanted shoes that could get a little more beat up than say, my Dior flats (which somehow still look better than both pairs of Toms.) The regular style was great when I didn't want to wear stockings to cover my foot tattoo.

I demolished the heels on them very quickly. I guess I walk with a slight limp on my right leg after dislocating my kneecap but I can damn near see through the heels. I guess they're okay for riding my bike/car trunk shoes. And my god, they fucking reek.

Well, I haven't done much sewing for a while, but I've got a white-tie-and-tails gala function in a couple of months, and I thought it would be more fun to clone a 20s beaded tabard and go in a sort of costume, rather than try to track down an appropriate dress and still end up looking like the country cousin who can't afford real clothes.

If I do progress pictures, would that be of interest?
