@Ancani , if you plan to teach yourself to sew, I'd like to recommend the book "Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified," by Cal Patch, and "Fit for Real People" by Palmer and Alto. The former is the best introduction I know of, and the latter will help you take things to the next level when altering patterns for better plus-size fit. (Especially germane - the Phoebe skirt in "DIY Clothes" is a cute flared skater with inset pockets, and adding suspenders is an easy mod - there are tutorials all over pinterest and youtube.)

So many off-the-rack clothes are very cheaply made, regardless of price point - even as a beginning sewist, you'll quickly be able to make stuff that's nicer. It's a great hobby!
Aaaaah, thank you soooooooooo much! <3 I'm probably getting a sewing machine and lessons for Christmas (it's the only really big present I asked for, and my mom practically confirmed that it's gonna be my main present), and I've been hoping to find some books that would help. Thanks again, you awesome person you! :D

I really love sewing! I hope you have fun and don't let the inevitable mistakes discourage you because it's so rewarding.

I got 61. :tugboat:

My Black Friday Target order (grand total: one cat silhouette sweater dress) and Black Milk (jellybean mermaid leggings) arrived at home! I can't wait to open everything!

I taught myself to sew this year! It was so fun! I recommend this book: http://www.amazon.com/Me-Sewing-Machine-Kate-Haxell/dp/1607050781

I basically read it cover to cover everyday for months. It was so helpful.

Here are a couple of dresses I just got from eBay:

And here are a couple more I'm getting after Christmas:

An update on the sewing machine thing. I went into my parents' bedroom (since the upstairs bathroom is attached to it and I happened to be upstairs at the time), and I caught a glimpse of the machine! It's a super fancy computerized one, I'm so hyped. :D

Also, I got a paltry 16 on the beauty addict thing. And I'm gonna level with you guys: most of what I know about makeup, I know because I'm a cosplayer, so I'm not sure that counts.

I just made my own lip scrub out of white sugar, olive oil, vanilla extract, and powdered cinnamon. Now I don't have to buy a lip scrub! Bye bye winter chapped lip skin! AUGH YEAH

Oh hey, I come bearing something that isn't a question for once!

That something is the best cheap lipstick I've ever bought.

It's by Wet N Wild (I know, not the company you think of when you think "decent makeup," but this is an outlier!), and it's called, I believe, MegaLast. Here's a pic of the two shades I have so far:

The lighting in this pic is shit--the left one (Red Velvet) is more of a bright firetruck red, and the right one (Sugar Plum Fairy) is more of a vivid mauve-y pink.

And of course, since you can't always trust what the stick itself looks like in my experience, here are some swatches!

Here they are smeared on my arm. (Ignore the part that looks like a bruise--it's just half-washed-off Sharpie from where I wrote a note to myself a few days back. :P And ignore the fact that my arms are gross and hairy, too.)

And here they are actually being worn! (It's worth noting that Red Velvet is much more vibrantly red in real life--the swatch is actually more accurate than the lip pic, in this case, because as I've said elsewhere, the lighting in my room is shit and kind of gives everything a weird yellowish cast. Sugar Plum Fairy pretty much is that same pink-purple shade in person, though.)

They last a damn long time, too. (Well, Red Velvet does at least--I only just got Sugar Plum Fairy yesterday so I haven't had much chance to wear it out yet!) Obviously they rub off a bit when you're eating or drinking, but I tend to have that problem with lipstick in general. And they have a nice smooth, creamy texture to them, which is really nice.

Best part? They're cheap. I got mine at CVS, and I think they're somewhere around $2.50 there. Not sure about prices elsewhere but I doubt they even go above four bucks anywhere.

I don't have any real experience with really high-quality fancy makeup, so I've no real basis for comparison, but as it stands, I'm kind of in love. <3

@Ancani, they are definitely surprisingly good! I've used the same ones and they have quite good staying power. I've got a pretty good collection of lipsticks of all price points and their lasting power rivals some other brands, like Sephora's own cream lipstick.
