can anyone recommend a foundation brand that caters / does really good white-skin foundations? I've mainly been using powder instead of creme, but i'd like to get into using creme.

i used this creme for a while, but the coverage isn't great. i use this powder currently.
Maybe look into K-beauty brands? Asians like to be pale af. I really wouldn't trust Western brands with anything pale, as the popular thing is to be tan here.
BTW Koreans were the ones that made BB-cream popular, the origin is German though. So anything Western is shit that they half-assed to get money out of the trend.

The Missha M Perfect Cover is a cult classic.

Yeah, I've noticed that any matching foundation I try and buy always has a orange undertone, when I've got a pink undertone. It's really annoying having to basically go two to three shades darker when I try creme.
Ordered a Missha sampler though! Thank you for the recommendation <3 I also looked into Sheglam, but being owned by Shein, I'm worried it's just gonna be shit.

If it doesn't go great, I might just try concealing and then just powdering on top. Or just start embracing the natural look and looking haggard and tired all the time.

What do you kiwis think about MAC lipsticks? To my noob mind they seem really overpriced. How worth it really are they? :geek:

I definitely think they’re overpriced.
I haven’t worn lipstick in a long time, but when I was a teenager I did (stupidly) buy a couple of MAC lipsticks.
I specifically remember despising their matte formula. It was awful, just so dry and uncomfortable.
I also had a cremesheen one which I didn’t love either… but I can’t speak on every formula.
MAC has a program where you can bring back six empty lipsticks and in return you get a free one of your choosing. If you’re fine with spending that kind of money on lipstick and you like them a lot, I guess that’s a nice bonus.

They can really be hit or miss depending on the shade, I used to have a matte red lipstick that I loved and wore every single day and I barely ever had to touch up, I repurchased what I thought was the same shade years later though and it just wasn't the same.

Back to Mac is for 6 items of any empty MAC packaging and depending where you live, you can also choose to get a lipglass or an eyeshadow.

Idun Minerals is the brand I've been using the past few years, they have a powder foundation and two kinds of liquid. Oftentimes the lightest shade other foundation brands do will be too dark or orange for me, I'm the second lightest shade in Idun's line. Their lightest shade is ghostly fucking pale, and they do true neutrals as well as warm and cool undertones.

The only problem is you have to order online, I haven't seen them stocked anywhere outside of Sweden but they seem to ship from the EU and US.

Impossible. I have yet to find a good one. Everything makes me look orange because of my cool undertones

I've heard good things about Illamasqua foundations for light skin, shade 1 is pure white. Kat Von D foundations also start from very pale.

I like to use a medium coverage liquid or gel foundation and then set with a powder foundation to get a bit more coverage. I am cool neutral and I used to use MAC Studio Sculpt in NC15 which was a good match for me but I hear it's been discontinued(?)

I am currently using L'Oreal True Match in 0.5N (Porcelain), it has hyaluronic acid in it so it's very blendable and it's decent for the price.

Probably late, but has anyone else used those foot peeling socks?

I've done it three times in the past year or so. The first time, I ordered the "sock" straight from Asia, so I had to cut it to fit my giant American clodhoppers (mostly wanted heel anyway). Later I bought a multi-pack at a local store that are better-sized.

Most recently, instead of washing my feet briefly beforehand, I soaked my feet in a bucket of water for about 40 minutes, then wore the sock for 90 minutes, then rinsed. (This wasn't on purpose; I just wanted to soak my feet.) However, instead of a week before the peeling started, it started about two days later.

Is pre-soaking how you foot peel-max? Did everyone else know about this?

I like a good shimmery gold eyeshadow, it's basic of me but I think it looks so magical. I'm a total brandwhore for Bobbi Brown and I love her eyeshadows, they have a great sheen to them that layers really nicely over a more pigmented statement colour like green or blue for a more dramatic look.

Incidentally the bobbi brown vitamin moisturising cream is the shit, you only need to use a really small amount and it's solved the dryness that I usually get in the winter. I use it all year round along with the lush Aqua Marina cleanser and my skin feels really nice and soft and smooth. It's also a primer so I can put my foundation right on top after moisturising and everything stays put and looks great all day.

My favorite products this year are cream eyeshadow sticks, cream blush, and lip products. I actually wrote a big post earlier sperging about all the ones I've bought if anyone is interested:

Cream shadow sticks: I've tried cream shadows in the past that were underwhelming, but I've been experimenting with more colorful shadows and different types and found the sticks work well for my shadow technique. I have hooded eyes, so trying to do most shadow stuff is pointless (which has not stopped me from trying forever). But this year I've been leaning into doing bolder single color looks with heavier liner/shadow under my lower lash line. Anyway, I've bought shadow sticks from urban decay, sephora collection brand, and the glossier matte eye paint, and all these products were really nice. I have mixed feelings about Bobbi Brown, it's a nice formula but i don't like any of the colors and they seem expensive. Ones that are not good: I tried Glossier lidstar this year and did not like it - came off too easily. Same problem with Pixi's cream eyeshadows when I last tried one.

Liquid/cream blush: I am a huge huge whore for blush, its my favorite makeup product. it's been even more popular than ever this year, which has been great. I have purchased all of these: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch, 100% Pure Lip and Cheek Tint, Milk Makeup, Cheek Stick, Colourpop Blush Stix, Colourpop Cheek Dew, Benefit BeneTINT, Juicy Pang Blusher, Canmake Cream Cheek, Pat MCGrath legendary glow color tint stick, Makeup by Mario soft pop blush stick. I've swatched many more, though not all of them. My favorites are Colourpop Blush Stix, 100% pure cheek and lip tint stick, 100% pure lip and cheek stain, and Soft Pinch. Worst/least favorite are Colourpop cheek dew (patchy), Juicy Pang (it's okay but annoying to apply), and Glossier Cloud Paint, which I tried a few years ago and found patchy and not "easy" like they claim
Some I swatched and want to try/buy: Fenty beauty color changing mood balm (fenty beauty has been pretty good to me lately, they have a contour stick that's the perfect cool contour shade for my skin), Patrick Ta blush duo (swatched this color and it was gorgeous, but unfortunately all sold out)
Swatched and did not like: Tarte cream blush, Fenty cream cheek in the compact, Rare Beauty Cream to Powder
Thoughts: Rare Beauty Soft Pinch was hyped up a lot this year. Is it worth it? Yeah, it's actually pretty nice. The texture is soft, and the pigment is good. It's not patchy. It's not my favorite product here, but I would definitely buy it in other colors.
Pat Mcgrath - I wanted to try this brand for awhile, since they're ~fancy~ and I'm a sucker for this kind of marketing. I mainly know them for their eyeshadows, but eyeshadow palettes are usually a mistake for me, so I've avoided them until now. I swatched this on a whim, and was amazed at how sheer and lightweight the formula was. I got it in a really nice berry color. These texture is impeccable.
Cheap brands: Canmake cream cheek had good color and is a decent product, but the packaging is really ugly. I wouldn't say that it is bad, though. Colourpop Cheek Dew is bad. Very patchy and just kind of a weird formula. Colourpop Blush Stix is probably my most used cream blush - it's just really foolproof. It has a good color, and it's smooth and really easy to apply. I like sticks in particular because they are so easy to swipe on and blend out with a brush, but some sticks are creamier than others (the milk tint stick and 100% pure lip and cheek tint stick "drag" on the skin and therefore have a less pleasant application and end up being patchier). I only wish they made this in more colors, it's existed in the same like 5 colors since forever. I would buy more of this in a heartbeat if they expanded the color selection. Juicy Pang blusher - hovers somewhere between good and bad. It's annoying to apply because it comes witha shitty little brush and it's in a bottle like it's nail polish, which I thought would be cute but is actually pretty weird.

Lip products - it is my holy grail to find balms with just the right amount of sheer tint that moisturize my lips, have just the right texture, and don't taste bad. But, I also try other products. I have very dry lips and discovered just this year that if I exfoliate every day, my lips actually are smooth and nice! In light of this information I bought a bunch of lip products.
Tried and bought and don't hate - maracuaja juicy stick, rare beauty soft pinch lip oil, fenty beauty poutsicle, benefit benetint, 100% pure lip and cheek tint stick, 100% pure lip and cheek stain, charlotte tilbury pillow talk gloss, charlotte tilbury pillow talk tinted balm, lawless beauty forget the filler lip plumping balm, too faced lip injection, tower28 juice balm, tower28 plumping gloss, yves saint laurent lip gloss, kaja beauty lip gloss keychain, colourpop fresh kiss gloss, colourpop blotted lip, kosas balm
Best: tarte maracuaja juicy stick, Tower28 brand, colourpop blotted lip. Though it threatens to become the next Nars Orgasm in overhyped shades with porny names, charlotte tillbury pillow talk is actually worth the hype in my opinion; it's just a really flattering shade. However, the products have a thick texture I find unpleasant and don't taste great.
Too Faced lip injection: actually works very well. However you can get used to it over time so it's better to use sparingly.
Colourpop blotted lip: I usually don't like matte but I tried this on a whim and I absolutely love the look and formula, would get in other colors
Tint products: Benetint regular is a nice and flattering red shade. Somewhat patchy, but I think thats just how tint products are. Probably the best formulas of those I've tried.
Not worth it: the YSL gloss was an expensive impulse purchase and it's just fine. lawless beauty balm doesn't plump like it says it does, which I didn't really expect it to anyway, because most plumping products dont work, but it's not a bad product.

Sorry that this got super long, I wrote this post partially beforehand after a makeup shopping spree and realized it fit the makeup products you love theme. I hope this information is of some value to someone. I try a lot of these products so these are just the best I found of what I sampled, and my honest opinion.

I didn't know we had this thread, as I don't poke into the BP very much. Gonna ask a question that I know has been asked before... I've also got a fresh, big fat scar on my face now, so my curiosity is picking back up again.

I never wear makeup, and when I have for special events, I always feel lost :(. I have an assortment of stuff and no budget limit, so I can pick up anything I'm missing. Could someone share a good BASIC tutorial for light day-to-day stuff? Also, how do I handle freckles in the midst of all this? They always look weird coming through.

Edit: I'm really self-conscious about this. I don't want to shit up the thread with basic bitch conversation. PMing or profile comments are fine.
Here's my super basic minimal makeup look, although this is just what works for me with dry skin, ymmv:
Glossier skin tint - this is very light and minimal and should work with your freckles while evening out your complexion. It's my favorite super light no-makeup-makeup
Eyelash curler + mascara - makes your eyes pop, I liked Too Faced better than sex. Buy the travel sizes for mascara because the full size one dries out noticeably before you can use it up so its a waste even if you use it every day.
Tint - I like multipurpose balm tint sticks. I use it on my cheeks and lips, my favorite one is 100% pure cheek tint, it is very sheer and foolproof to apply and should also work with freckles, and adds color while looking natural, it's a 2 in 1 product so it's minimal
Brows - probably just start with a tinted brow gel, I like elf's.

Thanks for the tip, the ghostly fucking pale one was just what I needed!

Are Bogs good boots or are they just glorified Crocs?
They're nice rubber boots, but still rubber boots in the end. Arch support is minimal, traction is moderate. I would not wear them in super slick conditions like ice, but for keeping your feet dry they're fine. I do like that they tend to be a bit lighter and easier to walk in than some rubber boots, but that does mean they will wear out faster. An older family member really likes their tall neoprene Bogs for messing around in the vineyard, though, so they can stand up to a good amount of abuse. I would maybe recommend only getting them on sale, which happens pretty often... if you have one nearby and aren't picky about colors, keep an eye on the local farm store for good deals.

I used to have a pair of the taller neoprene ones for mucking, which were fine for that purpose, and I had a pair of ankle rubber ones for using in wet environments that had a fucking hole in the seam (but I also got them on final clearance, so there's that). Shoe Goo fixed that fine, but it was pretty fucking annoying at the time.

Eta: you might be able to fit in insoles if that's your jam. Said family member above can in theirs.

Okay, I'm in Canada and it's really icy so I probably need something with more traction and insulation. Thank you for the very informative comment!

This is a rant but I really hate how so many 'practical' womens' bags don't have good closures anymore. They've all got these shitty cheap weak magnet closures that pop open if you have anything heavier than a laptop in there. I'm an academic, I have a lot of shit! I need a bag that can carry my laptop and books but I don't wanna look like a high school dork with a huge ugly rucksack strapped to me all day and I don't want a tote bag because all my stuff will get dinged up and it'll hurt my shoulder :(

I got a cute green roll top rucksack with what seemed like a buckle, but it's magnets! The buckle is fully functional and adjustable so why they didn't just stitch it down and dispense with the silly magnet is beyond me. I ended up supergluing the magnets together and now it has a fully operational buckle closure and is actually usable.

It's like you can be practical, or you can be cute, but you can't be both.
