Okay Kiwisisters, beautypill me on collagen. I picked up Neutrogena's Collagen Bank on a whim, gonna give it a few weeks to see if it does anything. I tried oral collagen a few years ago but it made me break out horribly. I've heard if that happens you should try marine collagen, but I've also heard humans can only absorb like 10% of the stuff and the rest just clogs up your digestive system so it's kinda useless anyways. Tell me your opinions/experiences.

Personally don't believe in topical or oral collagen. The best it can do is make your hair and nails stronger, don't expect any miracles to your face. Collagen is something your body needs to produce for you to have firmness. Consuming it can help, but only marginally.

Red light therapy has been proven to help stimulate collagen production and as a personal anecdote I can attest to it making a huge difference for me.

Also wat do about starting to get actual wrinkles in the NASOLABIAL FOLDS. Botox my only option? Thanks :heart-full:

I think everyone should stay away from fillers full stop because the long-term results always seem to make people look worse. This is especially true for HA fillers and how everyone who got them now has pillow face because these fillers don't dissolve as much as they migrate. I know you said Botox, but any kind of face injectable seems like a bad idea.

It's a bit cheesy, but if your folds bother you, make sure to smile for photos, it's a great technique to hide them lol.

I'm curious about trying microneedling myself though. Combining it with a red light mask afterwards seems to be the recommended least invasive way of rejuvenation at the moment.🤔

I've been trying to look into collagen too. I wanted to give the powdered collagen a try since I've heard it's good to put in your morning coffee and everything.

I found some "prenatal collagen" that I was tempted to try out, but when I asked my OB if it was safe or not, the answer I got was "there's no studies to prove either way, so it's up to you to decide" so obviously I'm not trying it while pregnant right now.

Sounds to me like there's no real studies done to prove the benefits of taking collagen orally at the moment.

Collagen contains all the amino acids to make collagen.
Our bodies don't use the proteins we eat as-is. It breaks them down and then reallocates those amino acids to whatever is needed most at the moment. Eating supplemental collagen means you have enough to make more collagen, but you might need something else more.
You're best-off ensuring you're getting all your amino acids first, then you can add collagen on top if you want.

This is one of those scenarios where the boring, foundational practices can really make or break. Not getting enough protein everyday? Your body will lack the necessary amino acids to produce collagen. (True for there vast majority of people.) Not getting adequate hydration every day? The collagen you do have won’t have any moisture to sustain itself, and it’ll shrink and compact. (Another thing that’s true for the vast majority of the public.)

Do these two things and you’ll see gains right there, before you start adding unorthodox therapies to your routine. Unfortunately it’s a big pain in the ass, and that’s why no one does this stuff.

I have a couple questions about piercings.
-Is niobium really the best material for piercings and is there really a difference between implant grade titanium in piercings and regular titanium?
-Did anyone else get their ears shittily pierced unevenly with a gun when they were five and is it a good idea to them repierced with a needle in a more even spot? Do I need laser resurfacing first where the old earring hole was?

Thank you earring girlfrens.

Yes and probably not, nobody else notices that the holes are somewhat uneven. It's probably not worth it unless that's like your biggest insecurity, since new piercings are a huge bitch to heal. Not a piercer but if you're worried about material find an APP licensed piercer in your area and buy from them. I think material doesn't matter as much as the type of closure, since external threads and butterfly backs both collect super unhealthy amounts of dead skin.

Somewhat related, but how many ear piercings is too many? I have lobes + second lobes and would love to get more but don't want to look ratchet.

Every reputable piercer I've ever been to only puts implant grade titanium in fresh piercings. And yes, it should be implant grade, which you should be able to specify with your piercer. Also, I suspect niobium would be okay for healed piercings.

I had that happen and, unfortunately, they healed entirely before I could comprehend the issue. I had my lobes repierced later on, and I didn't do anything to the shittily done ones. I don't think you'd need to have anything done either, unless yours are incredibly noticeable (you can't see mine when I actually have jewelry in unless you stare real hard).

There's also the option of getting a stacked lobe, if your stray piercing holes would allow for it.

You could have like 10 easily if your ears allow it and you find a piercer with a good eye to put together a piercing plan for you. It's especially easy if you like set-ups that are easy on the eye.

This is a lot of piercings, but I don't think anyone could accuse it of being ratchet because the jewelry is so low-key.

Eating supplemental collagen
Dunno if guys are allowed to post in here, if not please ignore. Also, sorry if it is a little off topic.

How can you get collagen through your diet effectively. I don't really like supplements or trust vitamin companies for various reasons. Mainly though it's also for financial reasons, if I can get the same/similar things that supplements can give your body through tasty food I would prefer that instead of having an extra expense just for supplements.

I have been making Chinese style chicken feet for a couple years now. It's good, but if anyone has some recipies they know that are rich in collagen please share.

Thank you.

  • Eat the chicken/duck skin and joints
  • Fish skin
  • Bone broth
  • Pig ears
  • Liver
  • Lengua
  • Eggs
Non-animal "sources" of collagen aren't really sources of collagen, they're just supposed to boost collagen production.

Yes, good.

I saw some leather handbags/purses in person at Macy's back in August, and they caught my eye because they were so pretty. Right now, my go-to purse is this old and beat up Kipling bag that's great for running errands (especially while I'm with my toddler) but sticks out like a sore thumb when "going out."

Well, I saw that they are now on clearance, so I bought one plus a matching scarf. Really freaking tempted to get the matching tote as well, but I'll wait to see if it gets marked down even more soon.

Just cover me in roses at this point, lol. I have a weakness for rose prints and rose fragrances.

So, what's everyone getting from the Sephora sale that starts the day after tomorrow?

Since it's 20% off, I tend to get a couple of higher-end things. I'm considering getting the Fara Homidi holiday lip set and Commodity Moss+ perfume, as a treat.

i've been having a nightmare finding some cute long skirts and cardigans anywhere - as we're going into the winter months i hardly have any cute outfits to wear around campus that are practical - if anyone has any inspo or links (pref available in the uk) i'd be massively indebted to you all <3

I got a few things from Wantable. If you don't want to take the chance on having someone pick things for you, you can look at their store or be really, really specific about what you want.

A little pricey and inventory is sometimes limited, but what I get from them tends to be cute.

APP licensed piercer
This a nitpick but the APP doesn’t licence piercers, it’s more of a cool kids club where the members hold each other to certain standards regarding materials and cleanliness but it doesn’t preclude them from doing kinda bad work or having poor taste in aesthetics. There are very good piercers out there who have and want nothing to do with the APP. It’s also almost exclusively a USA thing, there is a newish UK branch with a few members but they still don’t have much of a presence in most countries.

Nothing :geek: Some year I will join in the fun.... I haven't found any new makeup releases exciting enough to even consider buying anything...

Except maybe the MAC new satin formula lipsticks. If I could, I'd love to get some shades. Has anyone tried them? Are they good? Do they suck?

yours seem like good picks though!:heart-full: That packaging for the lip set looks very sleek. Hope it's to your liking! What is the fragrance profile of the perfume you are getting? Are you big on fragrances?

on the other hand my converse are crumbling apart from being extremely beat up so I bought some nice sneakers ive had my eye on for literal years 8) got them half off 8)can't wait to wear them

New discovery that turned into a mainstay:

This smells so good... It gets even better after wearing it for a while!

If anyone has any recs, I am looking for a pencil (!!!) eyeliner that is insanely smudge-proof, yet still blendable. My eyes are hooded (like Lawrence's, example attached), and I've still not found a pencil liner that wouldn't transfer. I'm currently using the NYX slim eye pencil (it's not good, just found it in a good color), and am not interested in various extra products like setting sprays and so on, since I don't use anything else.

Mine are hooded as well and I have oily skin, so even waterproof products smudge on me within hours.(:_(

I've pretty much given up on liner and go only mascara and smokey eyeshadow, but I'll give stuff a try if someone shills it here.

Anyone have a pore minimising matte primer recommendation? I've been using E.l.f. and it does a decent job making my skin look smooth, but I'm not keen on the scent. (Using just primer, no foundation, as I've finally managed to get my skin tone even.🥳)
