I didn't buy any lipsticks because holy shit, their prices have literally doubled in recent years (can you tell it's been a minute since I purchased anything from MAC?). Almost $30 for a lipstick now?! Ruby Woo and Lady Danger ... You are beautiful colors, but GTFOutta here with that price. I can live without.
You missed their anniversary sales! A couple weeks ago they had a promo of two lipsticks for around $30, or three for around $40 (adjusting chilean peso to dollar). Took the chance to try some of their famous reds (got Ruby Woo, Russian Red and Chili), and because I had some nostalgia from when I had bought one as a teen (the shade looked like shit on me, but the formula was nice). Chili ended up being my favorite, it's a little darker and more muted than it looked in pictures, but that made it the perfect balance of bold and subtle for my skintone. New mainstay along with that old Maybelline lipstick I've been using since forever!

Ahh, thanks for the tip! I will keep the anniversary sales in mind then!

One thing that MAC discontinued that bums me out was the Back2Mac program they had. I had saved SO MANY empty lipstick, lipglass, blush, and eyeshadow containers over the course of several years so that I could finally trade them in for some free lipsticks. I was really disappointed when I very recently read that they discontinued the "free lipstick" part of that program altogether. "But you can still return the empty containers for recycling!" Yeah no, not wasting the gas money or postage on that. I just threw them all out, lol.

Speaking of MAC, though, they released one of my favorite lipstick colors of all time back in 2010: Viva Glam Cyndi. It was a collab with Cyndi Lauper for the Viva Glam charity. I bought so many backups of that sucker, lol. It was such a flattering, wearable pinky-coral red ... It was honestly the first red lipstick I tried that got me into red lipstick in the first place. It was SUCH a great color, and I've yet to find anything like it again. I've done my research for dupes over the years, and I've even tried some ... No, they're not even close. lol. Man, I miss that color!

As of now, my personal favorite lipsticks are from Besame Cosmetics. They're definitely more expensive, but I adore their formula so much ... So once in a blue moon, I'll splurge on a lipstick. They are the only bold-colored lipsticks I own that actually fade nicely/evenly on my lips (so it's not a big deal when it does fade and there's no rush to put more on). I hate lipsticks that fade so awkwardly that you feel the need to reapply it all of the time.

As far as affordable lip products go, though ... Maybelline, baby! The classic Revlon lipsticks are still a reliable choice, and ColourPop has that vast range that MAC does for much cheaper, but Maybelline is my personal favorite overall. Maybelline is the only brand that makes liquid lipsticks I actually don't hate wearing, for starters.

I went to browse CollectIf’s website today and found out they went bankrupt at the end of last month! I like retro reproduction pieces for their classic styles and silhouettes, but I don’t go “all out”. It’s a shame to see this has happened though without any warning. It reminded me of when ModCloth just randomly poofed off the internet.

I noticed that the other day, too. I love vintage style (especially from the 1940's). However, I did notice that in recent years, Collectif was starting to move towards more of the "rockabilly" vibes (which can be really cute ... But that style comes across as more costume-y a lot of the time, in my opinion). They'd still make some clothes that were stunning though.

Hopefully they'll make a comeback? I used to love Lindy Bop, but they went belly-up shortly after covid started ... But they came back earlier this year after 4 years of being gone! The store is much smaller than it used to be, but I think they're still growing.

From what I see, other retailers are still selling Collectif items (not discounted either). Perhaps Collectif has just removed its main store and is just selling through other stores like ModCloth and Unique Vintage? I guess we'll see.

EDIT: In recent years, Voodoo Vixen has become one of my favorite vintage reproduction stores. I find that the prices are more than reasonable, and the quality is consistently very good. Unique Vintage sells a lot of Voodoo Vixen stuff, but I recommend just ordering from the main site because they do sales pretty often and are always cheaper than Unique Vintage (even with the international shipping).

Voodoo Vixen's Fall dresses in particular ... Love 'em!

Aaaand I managed to finish that Tocobo sunstick I got out of pure curiosity (Lasted a lot for such a tiny package). Really nice sunscreen for extremely picky skins, doesn't leave the face feeling greasy/cakey, will keep using it. I hate when sunscreens say "dry touch" and still leave my face like I slathered it in oil!

I love lashes. mascara, falsies all of it. I have blonde lashes and look like a mole without at least mascara. I, in theory, prefer falsies to mascara but in practice use mascara more regularly. I fell in love with the magnetic lashes but found half way through the day they made my eyes tired and sometimes they would shift (?) and I would feel like my eye was being poked.

I bought a Kiss Falscara pack and I have to say, I really like them so far! They're really easy to apply and don't look ridiculous. They come with a bonder, a sealer and a remover. My only complaint (so far) is that they can fall apart when you are taking them off the strip in the box, especially the short ones. They're pretty inexpensive though so I don't care that much.

I normally really dislike the feel of glue on my lashes so these are great in that regard.
I like kiss lashes I get the most dramatic large lashes of theirs. I usually put mine in with glue I haven’t tried magnetic lashes yet I would like too.

Calling all burger land gorliepops; give me your recommendations for not cripplingly expensive drug store/ wommart/ wherever make up and beauty stuff because my parents are flying out to the US at the end of the week and have asked if I want anything brought back so I might as well abuse it. Suggestions for good eyeliners and mascaras are especially welcome!

not burgerland but these little fucks from peripera are the best eyeliners i have ever used and are dirt cheap. they're available on the usual stylevana/yesstyle/olive young sites and possibly also amazon. the felt tip is super skinny and amazing for detail, and in all my many years of wearing cat eyeliner, i've never found an eyeliner that doesn't smudge or run in my outer eye corner, until this one.

ik it's not what you asked but they're so cheap and so damn good i couldn't not recommend. i've linked the olive young page bc stylevana and yesstyle have messy websites but i think i got mine for £3.50 off stylevana.

About a month ago, I saw a dress at Target that caught my eye (I thought that the pattern was really, really pretty). Because I had my toddler with me on this errand, though, I didn't bother trying it on, so I put it on my "maybe later" list.

I saw the dress on the website, and it's been in and out of my cart because I've been on the fence about it looking too much like a nightgown and not looking flattering in person.

Well, when my family and I went on an outing to see some friends today, I saw a woman who was wearing the dress and I thought she looked amazing in it ... So I went home and bought the dress for myself tonight, lol.

The picture doesn't do it justice (those boots look so bad with it), but like I said ... It looked amazing on the woman I saw wearing it today (and she accessorized the whole outfit perfectly so that she didn't look overdressed or anything). For the Fall, I feel like I can dress it down into a 90s-esque look with a denim jacket and some combat boots.

This kind of dress is typically not something I go for, but that print!

ELF, wet and wild, cover girl. La colors, I think these brands that have decent quality for not being from a makeup store.

Hey gorls does anyone here own a Cartier Love ring? I have a white gold one arriving next week and I am curious how people have handled them scratching. Any care tips? My wedding set is white gold and I’ve not had any scratching issues but it’s not as thicc as the Love band. I got the 3 diamond version which is rhodium plated, if that makes a difference?
Also do you guys think I should stack it above my wedding band, but under my engagement ring, under my wedding band AND engagement ring, or right on top?
It’s not an anniversary gift or baby birth/push present (?) or anything so if placement is supposed to mean something it wouldn’t really matter, right? This was just me taking a liking to the style and wanting another ring to stack.

I'd sell my soul to be able to walk around with that Florasis lipstick in my bag if I hadn't heard rumors of it being kinda not that great and the chain being very cheap and breaking off easily. At that price point it just ain't worth it if the actual product quality is whatever. If I wanted to buy ok makeup in over the top pretty packaging, I'd just get Flower Knows, although the aesthetic gets a little too toddler-ish at times.

There's also that other Chinese brand GIRLCULT who seem to have their selling point set on "cool" product packaging. Some of it reminds me of that late 90s aesthetic, clip arts and paper coffee cups and all (I believe that is now called "Global Village Coffeehouse"), it's kind of ugly but interesting. I haven't tried any of their stuff though.

Then there's Millefee who did a million of these eyeshadow palettes inspired by classic paintings. Very cute idea, seemingly pretty packaging, but the actual colors themselves are so boring... All of them are just neutrals + one pale blue if you're feeling adventurous. How do you make a makeup palette inspired by van Gogh and not have ANY scary yellows and greens in it?

Have any of you ladies ever successfully “lightened” box black hair dye? I’ve been dyeing my hair black for quite a few years now and I desperately want a change. A couple of shades lighter would certainly suffice at this point.
I have heard good things about the crushed vitamin C tablets + Head & Shoulders method, which I’m leaning towards. I’m curious if any of you have any suggestions/success stories?
I think Color Oops would fuck my hair up completely so I’m trying to avoid that altogether. *sigh*
