it might not seem all that powerful on its own but it can be very difficult to keep up with once it gets going.
without white plume i think it's fine to have initiative in legacy, but even after banning the "turbo" initiative stuff in pauper i still think it's a problem.
I get the feeling...

I would almost ban anything that requires "extra" cards to be used (city's blessing, monarch, emblems, etc) but get why you wouldn't. Though know what could be a fix? All that "extra" card stuff has to work like "outside the game" cards and take up slots in your sideboard. Some legacy players would maybe still run it but they would lose some tech if they did...

None of the "extra" card mechanics actually need those cards. They're all just reminders that you're in the buff state or that it's day or whatever.

Also, I'm a guy who at least in principle likes the un-cards being eternal legal.

Inserting free spells into Modern was a massive mistake,
I find it funny that they realized git probe and misstep were busted fucking cards, then decided to see if they could make cards not-quite-as-bad but still-clearly-bad and didn't feel the need to playtest them.

To speak nothing of lesser mistakes that were still fucking retarded designs, like the monkey.
city's blessing, monarch, emblems, etc
All of these are fine, because you can represent them with a penny. I hit blessing - I have this penny, just to say I have it for the rest of the game (dumb mechanic). Emblems I can look at the planeswalkers for reference - this penny means I have a Sorin 2 +1/0 emblem. The person who has the monarchy has the penny.

I can't do that for the fucking dungeons, or for stickers or any of that gay shit. When dungeons came out I was mostly playing online and I didn't hate them (though I found them stupid). Playing one game with them in paper - sorry Sefris, cool card, fuck this mechanic. Initiative is even worse, because you have to carry around like 8 copies of that token in case other people take it. But additionally, if you are playing an initiative opponent, you have to familiarize yourself with the undercity and what it does. Because although there is a 'kill' path that triggers the trap over and over, they could take a different route if the situation dictated it.

In itself, none of those mechanics are a problem, but the volume of them is what creates the bloat, and then you end up with really dumb shit like two instances of how werewolves work because one set uses day and night tracking and the other uses game conditions to morph, which is messy. Things like the City's Blessing shouldn't even be an ongoing tracking mechanic, it should just be like Threshold, where it's checked constantly instead of staying on once hit once.

Is it the end of the world to track all this small binary shit? Not really, but it really doesn't need to exist and builds up over time.

having to keep track of extra stuff sucks but it isn't even the worst part about them. i think it's incredibly shitty design that not only do you have cards that introduce mechanics to the game only after you play them that didn't exist before, but that these new effects are always in a weird spot where they exist in the game but also not and you can't interact with them at all. if someone ults a planeswalker and gets an emblem, it's just there. you can't do shit about it.

Yup, a lot of shit that gets turned into a mechanic could just be reminder text, but they need to keep putting out mechanics so they keep making up names for things with no interactions or point to existing. Block structures allowed them to potentially take three sets to flesh out an idea, but they never really too advantage of that back in the day either.

Well, looks like we finally have names to go with the art maro shared. Back to Ravnica we go…

So lets see

Ravnica and Innistrad jerking off
Universes Beyond
Western Plane without guns cause WE NEED COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL
Nigger Horizons
Universes Beyond
"Lets rip off Fantasy books Plane 4"
and something that might be original and not "Shitty Culture ripoff" "Revisit of a plane" or "Lets rip off another IP"

If murders does end up being innistrad, they’re really getting creatively bankrupt, using the name of a high profile ravnica leader on another plane… overall this just looks like more of the same with more chances to fail to learn from the design lessons of the last year.

Oh shit Karlov is Ravnica, my brain is so mush on the lore Details that I could have sworn that was one of the Vampire Families on Innistrad.

The art doesn't look Ravnica to me honestly either and a "Murder Mystery" is investigate focused which is Innistrad's Iconic Mechanic at this point. (not counting DFC because outside of Huntsmaster and Delver Innistrad's DFC cards are middling at best if not outright trash)

We are getting Fallout Commander Decks, Final Fantasy set thats based on 1-16 and then we are getting Assassins Creed.
No way. Final Fantasy has its own card game. They wouldn't--

Ravinica "remastered" means it's a reprint set. Like Dominaria or Time Spiral remastered.

EDIT: Oh I see. Karlov manor set. Hm.

So is Bloomburrow a tie in or original?

Well the creator of vampires on Innistrad is "MARKOV" so it's understandable you mixed it up since there's only 1 letter difference.

Bloomburrow is an original animal people set. It's supposed to be very "charming".

Edit: I sure look forward to both the Wild West set and the Modern Horror set not having guns. The obsession with not having guns in Magic is actually getting in the way of the worlds they want to make now. It is very difficult to take criminals seriously when they use glow-y supersoakers.

Western Plane without guns cause WE NEED COMMON SENSE GUN CONTROL
Guns are a big part of the western setting, but you could do interesting spellslinger stuff instead of gun stuff on a western plane like bandoliers filled with spell capsules instead of bullets. It's just going to be new capenna with a western coat of paint.

That Duskmourn art has a Giger biomechanical look so it's probably going to be knockoff scorn plane. Which adds to an insane theory I had about the ruining of the phyrexian body horror aesthetic being so they could make a future plane using the aesthetic.

Didn't Dominaria Remastered ultimately hard flop and is still available at under launch prices? I'm surprised they didn't abandon the format yet, but maybe this time around it will be the last nail in the coffin as I can't imagine Ravnica Remastered going over well. What reprint value can they even stuff into it at this point? Dark Confidant?

ANOTHER reprint of talrand :/

Thank you for cursing me... my dumb-ass fucked around and found out. I bought a commander masters collector booster and got rekt... the foil rare promo... fucking full art profile Talrand.

So thank you, I needed that.

Maybe the Karlov Manor thing is a murder mystery game but with MTG cards. Like they gonna mix Clue and MTG together in some goofy ass way.

Edit:

I bet it's basically Werewolf/mafia, but it's mtg now that I think about it more. (Basically the Kingdoms variant of commander, but in a way WotC ain't gotta pay anybody)
