'Aragorn was never white! He was Númenorean!'

So I'm sure this was posted about before but I'm bringing it up again because wizards is officially unvieling the whole set in a couple days and they are hiding all the 'racist' replies on twitter. The Professor from the tolarian community college also chimes in to own the racists. So if you dislike what wizards of the coast is doing to stir up drama for attention and profit, you are a racist and a bigot.

But hey, there is a new 5 color commander for everyone to try out at least.

Great.

Ghetto Aragorn and his sword Kayne of the West. Why does he have to be a jogger and not south asian, east asian, arab, native american, inuit etc. etc?? Fuck this african american pandering wokeshit. All this because white fuckers were too lazy to pick their own fucking cotton. Who knows if and when this lore gangrape will end.

When has a black leader ever been a uniter? Every black leader through out history has done nothing but sown discord and paranoia. Case in point Obama. Once again this is WotC pandering to Larry Fink's jungle fever fetish.

Yeah, about that. Since WotC is one of Larry Fink's true believers and lap dogs this may just be them pandering to him. Rumor has it that Fink has a major case of jungle fever. Doesn't surprise me. It is kind of a open secret that Jews in the entertainment and investment industry have a taste for "dark meat". Even the Sopranos and Drawn Together made jokes about that.

Bankbuster, Fable and Invoke Despair got banned in Standard, mongoloids on Reddit are convinced that basically every midrange and reanimator pile taking a hit means that Atraxa reanimator/domain ramp decks will be #1 even after losing it's best 2 cards under 7 cmc and not soldiers or esper legends which remain completely untouched.

Sort of a more interesting discussion is why they extended standard a year. They seemingly did this spur of the moment and are convinced that the reason Standard is shit paper playerbase wise is because people are scared of investing when WotC can just ban cards at will. Which is a strange position to take because the only cards they have banned in standard since ikoria standard are Alrund's Epiphany, Faceless Haven, Divide by Zero and Meathook. They also claimed that they think the reason why standard became midrange Cards Pushed for Modern tribal is that they don't design around mechanics enough and you would SOMEHOW have more themed tribal decks if they had more sets with completely unrelated set designs in standard at the same time. I've heard pretty good opinions for the last few sets from a limited perspective and certainly modern players are playing cards from them but in standard nothing gets played because it's all fucking commander cards, a few cards that are only good when you play them with cards printed 10 years ago or in a MH booster and draft chaff printed at rare and mythic. I think that the fundamental problem is that standard sets suck since Caprenna/Kamigawa and that there are no paper events for mtg fags to do for bragging rights.

Also all of this is especially shitty because standard gets solved in like 2 weeks on MTGA and more cards isn't going to make playing against only pushed cards for an extra year any more tolerable. An extra year is just cutting off your nose to spite your face just to try to bring back paper standard fags who either moved to MTGA or other formats that aren't plagued by gay dead cards and actually have people to play with as a result.

Oh and they also kept the 2 year rotation in Alchemy to try to get people to play that format but they keep mismanaging it so no one wants to play with alchemy cards either for being terrible (the entire specialize mechanic lmao) or just. cancer. Also while they didn't announce it they apparently have stopped doing the one thing I liked about the format and buffing shitty cards that see no standard play. I like that dumb exploit mechanic and enjoy playing buffed zombies whenever they force me to play alchemy cards for an event. I want to see more buffs... like to EVERY CARD THAT SAYS DOMAIN ON IT OTHER THAN LAYLINE BINDING.

What does "the ring tempts you" mean? I really hate this new way of phrasing cards like they're a digital product and the program will handle it instead of explaining what the fuck it means.
It's like a weird dungeon thing.

Standard Sets have largely been fucking garbage since they threw away the 3 set block format a decade ago during Magic Origins because "WAAAAHHHH 3 SETS IS HARD TO DESIGN FOR, WE WANNA MAKE FREE MONEY BY PRINTING NIGGER KINGS FOR CONSUMERS"

I looked up the mechanics today and it makes me want to throw up.
The first time the Ring tempts you during a game, you get an emblem named The Ring. There's a printed helper card you can keep in your command zone to remind you that you have The Ring and what it does. The Ring starts with only its first ability at the top, but it may gain the other abilities one at a time as it tempts you further.
Each time the Ring tempts you, two things happen. First, you choose a creature you control to become your Ring-bearer. If you have a Ring-bearer, you may choose to have that creature remain your Ring-bearer, or you may choose another creature you control to carry that burden. Ring-bearer is a new designation; it's not a creature type or an ability. The creature you choose remains your Ring-bearer until you choose another one, it leaves the battlefield, or another player gains control of it. Each player has their own Ring-bearer (and their own The Ring), and you can never have more than one Ring-bearer.
Second, The Ring gains its next ability, if it can. Once The Ring has all four of its abilities, it has reached its full power and won't gain additional abilities as the Ring tempts you in the future. Notably, The Ring will gain its next ability even if you didn't control any creatures as the Ring tempted you, meaning you didn't choose a Ring-bearer.
Spells and abilities may refer to your Ring-bearer. Most obviously, The Ring itself has abilities that affect your Ring-bearer. It immediately becomes legendary and can't be blocked by creatures with greater power. In time, The Ring's other abilities will provide valuable combat bonuses. Other cards, including Sauron, the Necromancer, refer to your Ring-bearer.

No joke, this is the fucking Ring.

Holy shit, it's so much worse than I thought. There is absolutely no reason to create that much text for an ability that will be thrown away and forgotten instantly.

You know I really love faithless looting being banned cuz muh specific deck, having shittier iterations of it released, and then all of a sudden OOPS BETTER FAITHLESS LOOTING ON A STICK CUZ MUH LOTR HEEEHEEE. Totally not pissed.

Also imagine making a whole new mechanic for the One Ring. And it's all benefits with no downsides on it's own. Like after it maxes out', every tempt should give you a poison counter or some shit. While giving a "every turn, gain 1 life per poison counter on you" or some shit.

What next. Mycosynth lattice but phyr- oh.
Honestly at this point you can tell MTG forgot any of the keywords and other established rules they made so they're just adding shit haphazardly so they can go all "nu uh you can't exile this it isn't even an artifact seee."

Because making EVERY deckbuild not interact with each other and just go fullsteam like a green deck no one can counter, is totally a good idea.

>spend money obtaining license for extremely popular book and movie series
>begin designing highly anticipated card set based upon popular book and movie series
>say "fuck it," and do your own thing
>everybody hates it
>pat yourself on the back for being 'more virtuous'

Yo.

Moderators on the biggest subreddit announced zero tolerance(zeroer than before, I guess) policy to a). intentionally fake leaks(in responce to fake banlist being posted around a week ago) and b). anything to do with all that Aragorn stuff which they find in violation of how they see rules.
So, in short

To be honest, I am surprised that many people actually care enough to go and annoy uncompensated janitors.

I would have actually picked up some LOTR product if they'd made it movie accurate. I don't know why they didn't do that as well, since we've had nothing but alternate art on top of alternate art... beyond that doing so would give people an option to not buy the iNcLuSiVe art. makes me feel better and better about my decision to sell my collection and proxy anything I want to play :story:

If that was true "justice geddes" then why was this video posted on the official magic channel TODAY??

While I'm dubious of the image I posted, as I have no way of really confirming it, it wouldn't be the first time the left hand lied about what the right hand was doing. Just look at the Bud Light thing where they claim no one authorized anything and it was all a big oopsie that people too the wrong way.

I'm sure there are plenty of other situations where a member of a company said one thing only for the company to come out and contradict it, especially in modern history. In fact, MaRo saying they'll never print tokens of the Reserved List, only to print Magic 30th is one such example.

I would've picked up some of it if it were accurate to the books.

I WANT TO BUILD A TOM BOMBADILL GREEN DECK WITH ENTS, MOTHERFUCKER!

But then again, they finally tied in one of my favorite games from my child hood into MTG, and even Minsk and Boo couldn't get me to come off a few shekels, so Nigerthorn doesn't stand a chance.

Standard is a fucking mess now, glad I stopped around 2019 after dipping my toes back in a few years prior.
