The leaves are safe to eat in small amounts, and if I remember correctly there are some kinds that are completely safe.

Reading some publications it looks the largest poison is Oxalic Acid, which is fairly mild as they go as it causes ittself to be ejected before it can be very well absorbed.
Negative effects generally appear of 1 gram consumption for average adult male. And it occurs at a concentration of about 0.6g per 100g of leaves.
