The entropy of victory. The enemy has retreated and the crisis is over. Victory is had... but nothing has changed. If anything, it might be worse than when it began. New enemies encroach at the borders, yes, but allies now grow restless and start to fight petty wars with each other. There is no catharsis. There is no evidence of any gain or progress, only hard fought stagnation. And, when appraised, the value of that hard won stagnation seems less than the cost.

In these times, you need to appreciate this value: your learned experiences and the value of your ability. A human's life is measured in the progress of their ability and the application of that ability to his crafts, his art. I'd say that it is hard to appreciate one's ability and crafts internally - this causes a lot of feelings that a lot of people consider depression. I've always thought of it as the darkness of unrealized ambition. I will say you are a better community leader than you give yourself credit for.

I have not yet mentioned this on podcast but we "won", effectively LFJ said on BlueSky that he was done going after the forum except for an occasional doxxxxing where he felt it was warranted, but aggressively pursuing the site is over.

It's like the part at the end of the Lord of the Rings that they left out of the movies - where the Hobbits find out that even thought they won that when they get home they still have to beat Saruman again.. We must be jolly warriors because the struggle is eternal and the real tests is always winning the peace, not the war.
