Pilot program to request a new YouTube channel after a termination
Announcement
Hi creators,
Starting today, we’re opening up a pilot program to give some previously terminated creators a chance to rejoin YouTube by requesting a new channel via YouTube Studio desktop.
Why are we introducing this pilot program?
There are many creators with terminated channels who deserve a second chance, especially as YouTube has evolved and changed over the past 20 years. We’ve heard loud and clear from creators that they want more options to return to YouTube (while still following our policies!), which is why we’re introducing this pilot program to offer some qualified creators an opportunity to rebuild their presence on YouTube.
Who is included in the pilot program?
Terminated creators are not eligible to request a new channel until one year after their termination date. Also, not every type of channel termination will be eligible for this pilot. For example, creators terminated for copyright infringement or those who violated our Creator Responsibility policies. Creators who deleted their YouTube channel/Google account will not be able to see the ‘request a new channel’ option at this time.
How will I know if I’m included in the pilot program?
Starting today and over the coming months, eligible creators will see an option to request a new channel directly from YouTube Studio. Simply login to YouTube Studio on desktop with your previously terminated channel. Creators whose requests are accepted will be able to create new channels.
Why don’t I see the "Request new channel" option?
We’re rolling this out slowly as we carefully review requests and learn from the pilot, so you might not see it yet. It’s also possible your channel doesn’t yet meet the eligibility criteria, however, you may still be able to appeal your original channel termination. Appeals are evaluated based on a number of factors, including whether the policy in question is retired from our Community Guidelines.
What happens after I request a new channel?
Once we’ve reviewed the request, creators will receive an email notification with the review outcome to the email account associated with your original terminated channel. We consider a variety of factors like whether the initial termination was particularly severe or included persistent violations of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, or whether there was behavior (on or off-platform) that harmed or may continue to harm the YouTube community, like channels that endanger kids’ safety.
What happens if my request / application is approved by YouTube?
Creators whose applications are accepted will get a fresh start on YouTube and be able to rebuild their community through the new channel, including new subscribers. You can re-upload any of your prior videos that are within our Community Guidelines. Creators can also apply for the YouTube Partner Program once they meet the eligibility criteria with their new channel.
We’re looking forward to welcoming back these creators and are optimistic they’ll contribute positively to the YouTube community. However, our Community Guidelines and other policies still apply, and creators will not have another opportunity to return to YouTube if they are terminated again at this time.
You can subscribe to this thread for updates and we’ll keep it fresh with any new information or additional answers to top questions we see. Thanks!
