Also, many of the mail trucks people think are LLVs are actually the later FFV, which is longer and easily distinguished by a window over the cargo area which the LLV does not have. FFVs are more common than LLVs in many cities due to them being less old and beat down.

Sometimes they got fans bolted to the front of the dash, along with doors to keep it cool, and some other cars don't have any of it.

Having looked at the specs, as far as the mailman's experience goes the NGDV might as well be heaven on earth compared to the FFV and LLV. Air conditioning, way better visibility and comfort, and more. Also, most of the fleet will be battery electric vehicles, which AFAIK is by far the largest mass adoption and fielding of BEVs in United States history, possibly the world. It'll be great for data on large numbers of electric vehicles being used very hard over a very long period of time, I wonder if the government accounted for the fact that the batteries are all going to have to be replaced in 5-10 years though due to the large number of charge-discharge cycles they'll go through.

Where does the figure come from about 15% of every dollar going to the IRS? In 2023, the US government collected about about 4 trillion dollars in taxes and the IRS had expenditures of about 16.1 billion, unless I'm reading their data book incorrectly.

I mentioned the same thing to him early this morning. I looked into it a bit. The $16 billion figure really is their budget to operate the agency. Josh was working with a figure that represents the absolute total amount allotted to the IRS to pay for tax refunds, tax credits, and other payment obligations, in addition to operating costs. Josh saw the $784 billion figure and took it at face value but didn't originally look at the breakdown. Now he's aware of the breakdown.

Now to Josh's credit, there are a few categories besides the $16 billion that sound like operating costs, such as "Enforcement" and "Operations Support", and these bring the total up to around $60 billion, but that's still about 1%.

Regardless, I still believe Trump should bulldoze the IRS and feed every employee into a woodchipper feet-first on the slow setting.

A family member delivered mail for many years. But they were a rural carrier and had to provide their own vehicle. In the beginning the USPS was selling old postal jeeps so you could buy them. Later a few right hand drive models were available in the US, like the Subaru. I think towards the end the rural area finally got provided vehicles, but yea they weren't great in the hills with winter weather.

I suspect a rural carrier doing mostly mailboxes without having to get out might benefit from A/C. But many others doing packages, businesses, foot routes, apartments, etc would not.

My current county of under 100k people is all done by carriers using their own vehicles as far as I'm aware.

now that Im finally off work, I will say that postal workers are probably abused.

I found out I make more than my supervisor, and they have to give up their union benefits to even move up, now I understand why so many people went postal back then.

There once was some discussion among my peers about the conditions for USPS workers; rigidly-timed bathroom breaks came up, and I'm sure that was just a tiny peek at the shit they have to put up with.
