I considered it a good use of my time. You identified the key problems with the story and the characterisation, while praising the art, and you did it without a wall full of mint condition retro toys in the background, and without ranting about Kathleen Kennedy.

A tendency to cram too many ideas into a story, at the expense of everything else, is a common problem in comics. A few weeks ago I rediscovered my copies of Brave Old World, which is a four-part mini-series, that was released by Vertigo in 2000. It's about a team of MIT scientists whose attempt at fixing the Millennium Bug catapults them 100 years back in time. They then proceed to fuck up the future by introducing late 20th century technology decades earlier than it was originally invented.

On paper it sounds okay, but the execution is mediocre. There are so many characters, all of whom are introduced in the first issue. Once the plot gets going, there is no space to develop any of them. They become living non sequiturs. None of their decisions or sacrifices make any sense. There is this Asian guy - a man at the top of his field of expertise in his own era - who decides that his place in the America of the 1900s is as a vaudeville caricature of a China-man, with buck teeth and a straw peasants hat. It's supposed to be a poignant moment. Because you don't know enough about him, it comes across as gratuitously racist and also kind of funny and retarded.

That seems to be the problem with ISOM. Not enough critical thought regarding what was being put into the story and very little in the way of connective tissue. July needs the kind of editor who will tell him 'inside this comic there is one fucking wolf, and if you want a dragon then you need a couple of issues of world-building to accommodate it'.
 
I was really shocked at how the story was paced out in the ISOM reviews. Take a shot every time the comic switches to completely different context and scenes on you and apparently you'll end up dead.
Definitely feels like a splattering of ideas with no real cohesion and a rush to get to all the ideas right now with no build up and pay-off.

Too bad, I really wanted a complete and total win for black comic guy against Juju the cow.

Just a quick suggestion. Every year members of the forum have an annual vote for lolcow of the year. These lolcows stretch across various categories but the whole thing lacks a certain flare. While award shows are cringe due to who's involved such as the Oscars, Grammy's, BAFTA's etc I think Null could capitalize on this and turn it into a yearly MATI stream.
Forget the news and lolcow content for the week and turn into a highlight real of the years best moments and predictions for the upcoming year. I'm sure the more artistically inclined members of the forum wouldn't mind helping out with graphics for the stream and a couple other things.
We could also have special categories such as farther of the year and most likely to die next year to spice keep things interesting. Could this be possible or am I asking for too much?

It does have a broad off-site appeal too. Alan was always the one running it. Not sure if he intends to this year.

Maybe the categories should just change each year so that they're particularly relevant.

Since we have a PO Box I can also accept mail in votes this year lol, would allow people without accounts to vote.

/fit/ is probably uniquely positioned as utilizing the board goes polarly against the subject matter. Every person who regularly works out and is deeply interested in fitness will be displaced by the multitudes homos looking to jack it to dudes. As someone succeeds on their fitness journey they will only have less reason to visit the board, leaving only the refuse and retards. /o/ atleast has justification for existing based on cars being a complex balance of tradeoffs disguised as a machine, so naturally discussing cars gives you endless material.
