I wouldn't be surprised if it was around that time, but even outside of Chans back then MLP was huge. I knew people in real life who did a lot of that shit and would come up to me talking about some pony fighting game expecting me to be interested. If you were into nerd culture at all back then you couldn't escape it.

No, if you watch the documentary it's extra funny as in the opening parts of icuckz arriving at the dentist's office Sam mentions the pony game in passing. I'm completely sure that this random passing mention made icuckz think Sam was onto him. Later icuckz accidently admits his whole reasoning behind the documentary is because Sam DMCA'ed a video where icuckz exposed Sam was behind some kickstarter pony dating game. Sam doesn't remember this at all and says it's probably because he didn't want the game painted as fake and he was planning to actually release it instead of just scamming people.
