When that didn't work he started getting evasive and trying to pull the 'where is your evidence?!?!' idiocy that he likes to ree about that seemingly never applies to anything he himself says, and when that didn't work he defaulted to the only thing he knew how to do to make the conversation end before he got into real trouble - he flipped his shit, started trying to put the whole thing on the other guy, played victim and ranted like a loon trying to threaten his way out or make the other guy so pissed off at lucas spazzing out that he'd just say fuck it and end the conversation Note this is also what lucas does in many other situations that reflect badly on him when he doesn't get what he wants - like how he went off at the security guard at the homeless shelter when the hairdresser made it clear she wasn't interested and another guy stepped in to tell him to behave himself. He knew he'd get in some trouble and get his ass kicked out. But he also knew it wouldn't be permanent, that it would stop the encounter and likely lead to them leaving it at that and not getting pissed off enough to permaban him for staff safety or to call the cops and have him arrested for getting threatening and starting a major disturbance. Lucas is not intelligent, he's stupider than a rock intellectual wise, but he has learned how to manipulate people and situations to some degree, if only on a very limited scope, to at least get a less bad if not overtly favorable outcome. Its one of the reasons he does the note thing instead of approaching women directly, cause he knows at worst she'll ignore the note and call him a creep but he'll already have skulked off, yet if he actually tried to hit on the same woman it could lead to a worse confrontation that he'd flip his shit with and get arrested or get banned again starbucks style
In other words, he's got a sort of animalistic instinctual cunning on par with a retarded street dog that doesn't know enough not to eat garbage and its own shit, or to bark like a retard at somebody until it gets the shit slapped out of it, but knows better than to bite the guy offering a piece of his sandwich
That said, more than just putting lucas in a situation where he'd have to explain himself like you're talking about, I wonder how he'd react to a situation where somebody just slapped him upside the head and legit scared the shit out of him for trying to pull that kind of evasive bs and retarded circular logic of his. no lucas, you will answer and will stop acting like a dumbass or i'm going to slap the shit out of you again sort of thing. We know lucas is terrified of other men, especially ones younger and smarter than he is. To put him in a situation where he knows in no uncertain terms there are serious consequences to his behavior and forcing him to act normal and answer questions and talk like a normal person or he gets another beatdown would make for a very interesting situation. If only to see if he can actually pull it off, if only for a short time. We know he can behave himself when he has a reason to or it benefits him, like when he wants something or when trying to manipulate doctors and therapists to let him out of the looney bin, and he tries to present himself as normal as he can when doing interviews, not that he ever actually does. I don't think he realizes just how batshit he came off in any of them. So yeah, I wonder if lucas would be scared into behaving himself or would have some kind of looney psychotic break cause his brain just won't let him act like that for long
I've said many times that lucas is eerily similar to the ideal inner party member and I stand by that. He hyperfixates on whatever he is talking about or doing at the time and just doesn't listen when anybody says anything contradictory about it. Its in one ear and out the other or twisted around in his brain to suit his own beliefs. Just like the party, lucas acknowledges certain fundamental truths like don't walk off a cliff or you die and you need air to breathe and to not drink bleach and such but everything else in his reality is pretty much malleable to some degree or another
