Lucas can rationalize, but there are three primary issues with it.

1) His logic and rationale is not based on our shared reality. It's based on whatever the fuck is going on in his schizofrenic, dimented, defective, and utterly retarded mind.

2) Whenever Lucas comes across a clear, abundantly obvious contradiction between our shared reality and his fractured mind, his broken brain will address that gap by outright ceasing operations.

(I'm not being facitous whatsoever. It's legitimately one of the craziest things about him. The inner machinations regarding what triggers his brain to abruptly halt, and why/when/how this process occurs in Lucas's thoughts, is honestly what I find most fascinating about him. It's almost like he's a computer with only two bits of processing total, 1 and 0. The only way to comparitively describe it is via 1984, as @WonderWino occasionally mentions.)

3) Lucas's supreme inability to digest, or even ingest, new information. It'd be one thing if Lucas was fundamentally the same person he was 15+ years ago (truthfully 45. Other than Cyril, Myrna's blog, and onesies/twosies of tidbits, the bulk of his known history came post-Susan), but used different verbage, slang, lingo, talking points, etc.

However, that ain't the case. The vast majority of his phrases, words, thoughts, talking points, etc., are virtually identical to 15+ years ago if not outright identical. Admittedly, some things he says or does go out of vogue for a year or two (like telomeres or the $100 steak dinner), but they always manage to find their way back.

Now a lot of this can be explained by schizofrenia, but does all of it? Hell if I know. Not that I'm a psychiatrist or neurologist or anything, and my knowledge of the disorder comes almost solely from this website and experience as a juror for a trial involving a schizofrenic pedophile who thought he created Three's Company.
