ETA: Speaking of, do check out the Nic Cage "Color out of Space" film, if you want a glimpse into what an actual adaptation of H.P's work should be.
It's fun and ridiculous, and more true to Lovecraft than any social justice shit ever will be. I enjoyed it.

I know this is a narcissistic autist's interpretation of some other fucking retard's meta-fanfiction that tries to shit on H.P. Lovecraft's works but being a petty dabbler on cosmic horror, let me just try to decrypt this shit:

This one line. This one fucking line is bloody hysterical for anyone that has even brushed past by anything Lovecraft-lite, much less any material written by the Circle, or the man himself.

Not only is this an instance of the magical negro tropes, this is the illogical extreme conclusion. "I did a spell so an entire race is banned from magic lol".

This is the kind of thing first graders say playing on the schoolyard. "My shield is strong, times infinity!" "But mine is stronger times beyond infinity, so there!" And before you know, there's a fist fight 'cause one called the other a nigger that didn't know how to play.

Niggers appropiating an Arab's work? Wouldn't surprise me.

It's really noticeable these people are way out of their depth. The likes of Eihort, Y'golonac, the color out of space... they insist that such insignificant garbage is "the real horror" because their pea-brain would shut off the very second they stumble onto something that simply doesn't care about their bullshit, much less consider humanity meaningless.

Yeah, magic in Lovecraft is something you do not touch. It will only lead to ruin, and even if you do it will slowly and irrevocably erode your sanity. Its unlike the 'Harry Potter' magic this show espouses. I mean, its like 'WE WANT BLACK PEOPLE TO BE SUPER SPECIAL THEY CAN ONLY USE THE MAGIC NOW'. Then why didn't you make a show about Voodoo and not bother giving whites the magic at all? 'lolz, I prevented your whole race from using magic'. Your power comes from Outer Gods that are horrifying beyond human comprehension.

But I mean, this isn't Lovecraft. They can call it whatever the fuck they want. It barely qualifies as horror IMO.

'A Color Out of Space' is really the best Lovecraft film. It sticks right to the source material, reads fucking passages right out of the short story. Our every man character is a black lead (Who is obviously just as horrified as the white characters). They should have taken the budget for this show and given it to them. For a low budget picture it is REALLY intelligently shot. It doesn't give close-ups of monsters, opting to hide them in shadow. Its a lot of quick cuts with the creatures. The themes of insanity are really well done. Just be warned, it is a slow burn and it takes some time for it to ramp up. Also, it follows Lovecraft in that the creature or color isn't explained at all. Its basically left up to you to decide what exactly it is. The film doesn't hold your hand and wants you to use your imagination. It doesn't have really any jump scares and is a really good atmospheric horror film that goes full bore.

So it continues in the trend of really awful lovecraft adaptions.

It was fun but I disagee with it being good. Color Out Of Space works better in writing for the obvs reasons and although the film had some great scenes - you've heard this opinion before.

I have no interested in Nigger Country unless they include a cat called Nigger then I'll watch that scene where someone calls for "Nigger" and both the cat and the entire main cast race to attention and the actual niggers get cucked by based acism cat.

If anybody wants to chat Lovecaft in general, I'm all for that. Read a bunch of his stuff but not all, been getting back into eading and writing again (I'm a "writer")
I've read:
The Tomb, Dagon, Dunwich Horror, Shadow Out Of Time, Color Out Of Space, Nemesis, I can't off the cuff remember the name of it but it's the big fish one that's actually about being Welsh.

Now that I think about it I've never actually read The Call of Cthulhu out of my distate for it being the sole frame of reference for anyones understanding of Cosmic Horror.

Anyways, what should I read next? / What are you favorites?

I personally enjoyed Dunwich Horror because it reads like a classic b-movie monster flick (baffled that it hasn't been made into a movie of all things because of how easy it would be to do so - an Invisible Monster? Slash that budget in half!)
But I think that Color Out Of Space might nail what Cosmic Horror means better than spoopy tentacles and "lol u go insane" because it is literally not possible to imagine a color that does not exist.

Hey, any media inspired by Lovecraft that doesn't take a steaming shit all over him is gonna be good. At least they tried.

For a show about the horrors of racism, the show is amazingly racist in lots of ways.

There's a sexy Asian fox-succubus with murder orgasms who falls in love with the main character after getting dicked down by him once, despite the fact that he's a war criminal who murdered her friends in front of her. He's also abusive and treats her like dog shit and thinks all Asians look the same (seriously, it's a major plot point that he can't remember her face after she literally attacks/grabs him during the executions) and thinks that that Asian women are just interchangeable yellow fuckdolls. He eventually apologizes, but that's only so he can use her as a prop in the final sequence.

Like, there are literally thousands of Asian myths, and you had to go with the murder-fucking anime waifu fox succubus. There was no other choice? Ji-ah isn't even in the book, so it's not even like they were trying to make the best of something that worked in text but not in film.

'Blood purity is okay when we have it!' Fuck me, Harry Potter examines magical bloodlines and the (often fucked up) assumptions that flow from them with more grace and tact.

"White people are now barred from magic!" screams the Polish woman casting the spell. 'Slavs aren't white' is the Nazi take I was not expecting, but uh, you do you, I guess. Jewish-Black solidarity and the Jewish work in the civil rights movement is also given less than a second of screentime - a Jewish man is briefly shown at Emmet Till's funeral, that's it. Jewish people presumably are white, and thus evil, in the minds of showrunners because they go out of their way to gloss over/ignore/downplay Jewish involvement in the civil rights movement as much as possible.

Every gay relationship ends in murder/tragedy, or is flat-out abusive.

Imagine a white man using any of these plot points. I mean, he wouldn't, because he'd be run out of the studio for so much as suggesting them.

>Lovecraft monster falling in love with a human and not even fusing his limbs together in a horrible alien monstrosity
>Lovecraft monster fucking human and human not immediately going insane
>Lovecraft monster even giving a fuck about a human

Jesus Christ. Its so bad. I also looked up the 'fox spirit' thing and fucking LOL it looks like trash. So she's barely anime waifu tier (I mean the actress is hot, but what if you're not going full Kitsune and embracing it, why even bother) and probably there to piss off the Asians who HATE race mixing. Also they already consider Asian's white because they're too competent and successful, so the whole thing is knocking Asians down as well.

This whole fucking show SCREAMS of Black Supremacist narrative over all other races. Typically I don't care, but with all the shit we have to eat for things we like, I'm done ignoring their hypocritical stances just for 'art'. They also probably ignore the white people and Jews who died to get voting rights for blacks. It wasn't only dangerous for blacks down south. If you were for civil rights, it was dangerous. Period.

Honestly, it is just fucking political and racial garbage. If HBO wants to throw good money after bad, its on them. We just get to laugh at blatant propaganda that is pure dogshit shoved down pathetic rich white people's throats. Even though they know it is crap, they're forced to eat it.

Its fucking hysterical that they made a black racial purity series and did it so fucking obviously. 'WE'RE TAKING BACK LOVECRAFT BLACKS ARE SUPERIOR' Mind boggling.

>Oh woe is me, racism is the real scary
>Chink hoes all look the same, me love you long time, tree dolla sucky sucky bitch asses ayy lmao das rite

But don't you dare be a self-aware black person, or you's a coon!

I pirated the Arkham County full cast audio drama, and it's worse than I imagined: a random bunch of poorly written and acted characters from various Lovecraft stories, dropped into a modern day Miskatonic U, and a totally incoherent plot slightly reminiscent of Eternal Darkness (Gamecube classic). The narrator tries his best during retarded and ridiculously scripted 'Twilight Zone' styled links, but nothing can save it. I've heard amateur podcasts with much better scripts, cast enthusiasm and production values. This is not worth the effort of making an audiobookbay account, so I've uploaded the torrent file if you really want to experience this aural aberration.

My two cents: I thought is was a pretty fun anthology show, playing with different genres. The story arc ended up pretty retarded though, and the tenuous Lovecraft link I blame on the source novel. As a non-burgerlander, the race issues weren't that much of a big deal for me.

If anyone is feeling a need for Lovecraft adaptations, I'd like to shill a radio series that loosely adapts The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and The Whisperer in Darkness, with The Shadow Over Innsmouth coming up soon: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06spb8w
It's quite 'Lovecraft Mythos'-lite, throws in Nazi occultists (yay), and has pretty high production values, and as it's radio, the pictures are better. There is no Lovecraft bashing that I can remember.
I'd add the film The Lighthouse to that list. It isn't a direct Lovecraft adaptation but if you want a movie that perfects Lovecraft's style brought to the big screen, watch that shit.

I can't help but wonder if they will (or have) reference The Dunwich Horror with the message being, "Rural white people be inbred racists."

How is Emmet Till involved if the show is set in the present day? Are there time travel shenanigans or do they make him a lovecraftian entity that can't be killed by whitey?

I felt that one was a bit more Edgar Allen Poe-ish.
I'd agree with you on that for most of the movie's content, but the ambiguous inclusion of otherworldly creatures and magical invocation leans it more towards Lovecraft for me. Don't want to get too into detail since some people here might not have seen it yet, but I think you know the parts I'm talking about.

The show is set in the 1950s, presumably in 1955 specifically, because Emmet Till is the best friend of one of the child characters and is murdered off-screen. At one point the characters do travel back in time to the Tulsa Riots, and another character goes dimension hopping with Garnet from Steven Universe.

Yes, in short, white people in Lovecraft Country are simply a monolithic evil hivemind without any clear goals or motivations other than oppressing the main characters. I'd be hard-pressed to name any modern media that treats POC characters like this, even the villains in the original (1984) Red Dawn are written with more sympathy and depth.

It falls into the trap of, as I touched on before, 'It's okay if black people do it!'

As an example, one of the events that really fucked up the main character's (Atticus/Tic) father is that someone screamed 'faggot' at him during the Tulsa Riots. This is treated as the height of evil and the source of all his trauma, but when Tic regularly screams 'faggot' at this father, he's just a poor, sweet, misunderstood baby, and actually, it's not even his fault, he's traumatized by racism! He never really makes amends, or does any work to make up for screaming slurs at people, it's just okay for him to do it.

Another (black) character rapes someone (a white person) to death (that's not a typo or an exaggeration, a man is raped to death on screen), with the rape framed as triumphant and heroic. No more commentary here, the show legit frames a violent, brutal rape as justified and heroic because said rape was carried out by a black person.

Atticus, the main character, commits multiple war crimes, including being part of a kill squad that guns down begging nurses and tortures women and civilians to death, but again, that's White Imperialism's fault and actually, he's as innocent as a baby because black people don't make their own choices or something.

That is fucking horrible. I am so glad this is getting a second season. This shit is so stupid it boggles my mind. The people in charge of this show are fucking idiotic. They're pure brain dead retards. How the fuck did this get past an editor? Why would I watch a second season of this pure vomit?

So basically every race is shit compared to the blacks. Jesus Christ. This show is basically black twitter. Seriously. Even the most brain dead whites are trash shows have at least one good white person and don't paint any other minorities as inferior. This is just...incomprehensible.

What episode is this? I don't mean to be a dick to you but I want to make sure this isn't exaggerated or taken out of context, because that seems wildly unbelievable to me.

EDIT: Found it. Along with an article trying to justify it as a good thing we're supposed to root for. What in the fucking fuck?

Strange Case.

I suppose he's not shown being killed outright, but there's no way he didn't die of sepsis after having his asshole ripped out/intestines punctured.

Game of Thrones: 'RAPE BAD, FUCK HBO, EXPLOITATION'

Lovecraft Country: 'YAASSS RAPE WHITE MEN'

What is wrong with these people? Fuck them all.

I thought that was mostly an homage to 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.
