Again, first episode was good (very good).

Second episode was an incoherent mess, in plot, script and tone. I think even the main actors were struggling to take any of it seriously.

I'm out.

Just because
it started with the theme from "The Jefferson's" ?

All this talk about Lovecraft works and movies, we still haven't touch on Underwater (2020) which is a movie inspired by Lovecraft and isn't explicitly based on anything else.

As for Lovecraft Country itself, it's gonna be Twilight Zone (2019) again especially with Jordan Peele in charge. I'll Pass

You could argue that Del Toro has already made his Lovecraft-themed movie since his Oscar film was about a woman fucking a fish.

But an actual Del Toro Lovecraft adaption is the most obvious idea in the world and I thought when filmmakers won Best Picture that gives them a ticket to get their dream project off ground, like Peter Jackson and King Kong or Barry Levinson and Toys.

Because it, too, was a hot mess, and worse alternated between offensively stupid and boring. You can be offensively stupid and still pull off a creature feature, but you can't be boring. And the characters were mostly unlikable or forgettable.

Why do they greenlit this generic garbage instead of an actual Lovecraft adaption? Why won't studios let Guillermo Del Toro do At the Mountains of Madness? :(
What the fuck is that fat spic doing with his money? His dad was the biggest piece of shit used car dealership in the state. Im sure he could easily reverse mortgage and collateral up $200 million if he wanted. Its just that he doesnt want to make a flop on his own dime.

Whenever this was set. Is this a realistic'ish version of the US of the time?
[/QUOTE]yes 100%. Just ask anyone in this thread that likes the show. Its 100% accurate

You got to love how a review of the book basically says "muh racism" is scarier than the Elder Gods:

Most reviews center around how it's a tribute to Lovecraft but we got to show this Lovecraft guy a lesson! Sure, you really showed a guy who's been dead for 100 years a lesson.

Also pic of the book's author

BLM/Black Supremos and Antifa probably would worship the Great Old Ones and Outer Gods if it meant they get to kill white people. (Also the Elder Gods are a different set of deities than the GOO and Outer Gods. They’re the closest things there are to benevolent entities.)

The only time Lovecraftian Horror has been done well in videogames was Bloodborne which unashamedly borrowed from Lovecraft with the whole perceiving other planes of existence, dream-states, corrupt townships going bananas and 99% of the time the actual enemy are corrupted humans with big unseen gods pulling the strings. And the designs of actual great ones and their minions weren't just Cthulu clones.

It's a shame Del Toro's Mountains of Madness film will likely never see the light of day because movie producers will only ever greenlight films with marketable monsters that fill up the screen because who needs subtlety when it comes to cosmic horror am i right? people just want to see the big spooky monsters already! and by spooky monsters it's cthulu and will always be cthulu because brand recognition, even though he's a bit of a weenie in the elder god olympics.
Eternal Darkness does it pretty well too IMO. It does in regards to the protagonists’ fraying sanity anyway. Shame that’s never been remastered.

Because The Thing reboot and Prometheus didn’t do as well as predicted.
Infuriating, I know.
>The B-team sequel and fart-huffing retcons didn't make as much money as they expected.

I'm sometimes shocked at how retarded Hollyfucks can get.
I wish I had a time machine, and could get Lovecraft's reaction to the Japanese turning Nyarlethotep into a loli.
The rolling in his grave could probably generate clean energy to a medium size city for quite some time.

Really, his reaction to Japan as a whole would be a mix of spergery and strange admiration.

Fucking fish-people thinking we're not into them. I'm getting me shotgun.

If being racist is NBD then Lovecraft being racist is NBD

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

I'm not gonna get into the merits of racism on KF but I think it's pretty well-documented that HPL was about as top-tier racist as possible for his era. He just was! His work is still spooky and weird and genius and occasionally sprinkled with racist tropes. And actually did include the "the REAL monsters were people all along" themes in some of his works btw- whether that monstrosity was a greed for power or just niggerish savagery, depends on the work.

Regarding LC: I think the biggest flaw of the show - which is tbh really fun all things considered - is the muted flatness of the Black characters. They're flaccid Noble Negroes - just kind, educated and hard-working folks that want to get ahead in a Racist World. Which... is fine... I guess. But super boring. Interesting characters have more edge and more complicated motivations... And after their confrontation with the mind-boggling they don't -really- seem to be showing the hopelessness/madness that makes HPL's work so iconic.
