The article claims he was charged with "possessing anime images of child sexual abuse and having category three child pornography anime images" under the Child Trafficking and Pornography act. I wasn't able to find any such act, but I did find this website from their government explaining cp categorization in Bongland. Presumably category 3 is the same as category C, so he was charged with having cp of children depicted in generally indecent ways and whatever child sexual abuse is meant to indicate, could be a category A (penetrative sexual activity, sexual activity with an animal or sadism) or category B (images involving non-penetrative sexual activity). Guy is probably lucky that he wasn't charged with trafficking cp since he was crossing multiple international borders, and I really wonder why he was suspected of having illegal material on his phone.

If you have evidence of grooming, report it to the police. You shouldn't try and investigate it yourself, since this can fuck up an actual criminal investigation.

I had assumed he had been handed over to England to be charged, but I guess that wouldn't make much sense, especially since he is going to Irish court. This just makes it more confusing since I doubt he would face separate charges for different kinds of cp under this law, but the article claims both of his charges were for different kinds of cp. Also the law doesn't define different categories of cp, but presumably they are referring to the COPINE scale which defines category 3 as "Surreptitiously taken photographs of children in play areas or other safe environments showing either underwear or varying degrees of nakedness." Could be using another scale, most likely being the UK scale mentioned earlier.

I had a look into this and found some more information [A] about the categories:
Category 3 just means drawn or computer-generated images (e.g. anime, cartoons, CGI, etc.). So it doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Half the time the police are some part of them, anything degenerate the regular UK police will be part of it (E.G: recently a british MET officer was permanently suspended after being caught stealing the pants of a 14 year old girl while executing a warrant on a home) The only part of the UK police I give any good faith to are the armed police and counter terrorism forces, who for some reason get spitfired by the media everytime they kill a knife wielding maniac muslim on the street instead of trying 900 times to duel him with their own hands or some shit.

There's still some unknowns here, but my guess would be that the operative part of category 3 is the "where the focus of the image or video is the genital or anal region" portion, so that cartoon images which are explicit, or perhaps hardcore would be classified as category 1, and so he was charged for possession of both hardcore and softcore lolicon content. It's interesting to note that the above screenshot/opinion says "Category 3 contains cartoon-animated anime." but the case in question doesn't appear to have primarily included anime pornography, the judge just knows that anime is full of cp. Very strange to me that the Irish police were able to make their own rule for charging people under this law which allows judges to reduce the sentence of the criminal, and that the prosecutor of this case appears to have been unaware of this fact.
