The original core set of anons from the /cgl/ days were normal, well-adjusted, women between 20-30 that enjoyed cosplay and otaku culture. Yes, there were some underage people, there were some men, there were some NEETs, but these were the minority. Most anons were regular women. They regularly attended conventions, had lots of online and in-person connections, had stable jobs, and used anonymous IBs to blow off steam and gossip about the annoying members of the community.
When SR split from /cgl/, and then LC came out of the SR's ashes, that core community would dominate for the next few years. Concurrently, the popular perception of IBs would begin to turn sour. Originally, IBs were just a normal variant of internet forum. Most users of IBs like 4chan were regular people. Yet, maybe because of the preeminence of /pol/, more and more people that weren't familiar with IBs began to view IBs as cesspits of maladjusted weirdos or political freaks.
That change in popular perception is the thing that makes newfags so annoying. The newfags post ~2018 come to LC not because they want to gossip about retards online, but because they feel alienated because they're losers or weirdos. They think that LC is a place for people like them, because they view LC as a "female alternative 4chan." You can see this view espoused in a lot of posts on Twitter, Tumblr, TT, or other social media posts when they refer to LC, they genuinely believe that all IBs are full of weirdos.
This is why we have an endemic of newfags that turn out to be NEETs, social retards, losers, radfem LARPers, etc., because they don't even understand that LC is not a "community," it's an anonymous IB about documenting freaks online with a focus on women's opinions. They want to pretend that it's a place for strange women to unite and commiserate, when really we don't even know if the person we're replying to is a woman or a man by the nature of anonymity.
You summed up the problem with modern LC very succinctly: newfags seriously believe that LC is meant for ostracized terminally-online women. In reality, YOU were the kind of women that oldfags used to gossip and laugh at. Newfags are the cows, that's why there's barely any milk these days. The recent administration and moderation decisions lead me to believe that even the staff have bought into this big lie.
