Lindsay supposedly has a Masters degree. You would never tell based off that atrocious screen play. I’m sure a regular joe in a creative writing 101 course could write a better, more coherent screen play than this.

For the curious, here’s the Triangle Shirtwaist scene:

Oh yeah, this isn’t just a play, it’s supposed to be a musical.
I guess she's trying to go for a disney-esque movie musical, and so there are a couple of "songs" within this screenplay. I say "songs" because I'm not sure to what extent they've actually been written.

This first one has the lyrics written out and goes on for about 2-3 pages, so I guess she did actually make this one.

Though the second one is more less the equivalent of putting [song goes here].

There are some pretty bad typos still in there (revery?) as well as the constant use of "they/them" being very confusing.

Evidently this is only the prologue sequence, hence the designation of "young" Ari. So a timeskip from this period to the construction of the Empire State Building would make sense.

Overall it isn't terrible, but it's one big "animated family musical" cliche alongside the general cringiness.

I think my favorite part is the Jewish immigrant family from POLAND coming through Ellis Island in 1910 comes out the other side named Schwartz.

And this is why "they" does not work as a gender neutral singular pronoun. It is so confusing when you are using "they" to talk about a group of people and a non binary person in the same sentence. It makes no sense.

Why must Ariella be trans/non binary? I swear, every idea here is better than that abomination of a script.

Why must her name be Ariella? This is a Mary-Sueish type of name.

Isabella Swan
Anastasia Steele
Ariella.

Is the love interest a genderfluid polyamorous vampire?

You know, this isn't helping Jewish people as much as she probably expects... people are going to think they're a bunch of degenerates... even more than some already do. This just reeks of "My Own Identity, the Musical": it's about a NY tomboy who dresses as a man and identify as theyi in a Jewish family... exactly like her own life. She claims her parents are very liberal, and I'm sure Ariella's family will be like this, very supportive, instead of being ashamed of her and even ostracized for having an odd kid, as it should have probably happened IRL. I'm sure that, secretly inside, the mother and sister who died were happy they didn't have to be around this moron and chose death by fire instead.

Lindsay's abortion on paper is just a mash-up of her life, An American Tail, Disney's version of The Humpback of Notre Dame, and a YA novel tailored to girls.

This confused Pat clone doesn't have an original thought in her head.

Making up two dimensional Disney knock offs with Mary Sue leads seems so girly really, Like twelve-year-old girly.
It's the closest she can get for passing for a female let alone a young one.

She legit looks like that guy you catch out of the corner of your eye and it confuses you in the locker room, not aware as a child he lost one testical fucking his puberty up and he's just a blob of human with no real gender but still kinda male looking.

i bet she(or is a he? whatever) got raped as a child
Nah, I think it's the opposite: she had a very spoiled childhood with parents who allowed her to do anything she wanted.

She said she's a theater kid in NY, meaning she was probably around gay people all the time, especially gay men. I am positive that she's just imitating the behavior of these people just like a little girl who's raised among boys is tomboyish. Or, as she has a girlfriend, I wonder if she wasn't a bit bullied over that by her gay colleagues for being a lesbian. Also, she could be on denial that she's a lesbian. She's been raised in a Quaker highschool, so I wonder if it's not just easier for her to say she's a "failed girl" than accept she's homosexual.

I may be late to the party, but did Lindsay seriously put foot in mouth and say “sexuality isn’t sexual” or are my ears deceiving me?

She posted her new project with a pdf of the first 15 pages:
"An original animated family-friendly musical feature screenplay about Ariella ‘Ari’ Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant tomboy in early 20th century New York City whose mother and sister die in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and they cross-dress to join the construction crew for the Empire State Building."
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire was in 1911 and the construction on the Empire Stars Building didn’t begin until 1930, what did she/he/they/it do for the 19 years in between? She might as well write a story about becoming Judy Garland’s drug dealer immediately after surviving the sinking of the Titanic.

that's probably because she can't spell names like Kocieński, Dąbrowski, Merecki, or even their anglicised equivalents, correctly
or she just thinks all European Jews from the early 20th century had German names

I'd just like to point out that at one point she used it's instead of its, and this is the cunt who thinks she can write. No excuse. Your second grade teacher is weeping somewhere, Lindsay.

given the level of general ignorance on display, poor grammar is the one of the least facepalm-worthy aspects of this 'script'

Unsigned writers with no credits to their names should never write musicals as spec scripts unless they can also write the music and lyrics to go with the script. Otherwise, you're assuming your script is so good, a studio will hire fukcing Lin Manuel Miranda or someone to do the heavy work for you.

She reuses the "rythym of [LOCATION]" trope in her twice in the action portions of two brief excerpts reposted here. Lazy writing.

Dialogue is stilted and expositional.
