Lindsay Amer is a pedophile. She wants young girls to cum come to her with all of their sex related questions and insecurities so she can molest them. I'm not sure how that wasn't made clear through her own words.

She posted her new project with a pdf of the first 15 pages:
"An original animated family-friendly musical feature screenplay about Ariella ‘Ari’ Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant tomboy in early 20th century New York City whose mother and sister die in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire and they cross-dress to join the construction crew for the Empire State Building."

Knowing Lindsay, she’s probably going to do more than cross dressing and have her become a full on troon or some variety of gender special. It sounds very anachronistic just from the synopsis.

Edit: I reread the synopsis and I noticed the word “they” used for Ariella.

A passenger ship from Poland enters New York Harbor. The rhythms of the ship: sailors heaving ropes, the stern rushing through the choppy water, the wind billowing into the sails, and the hum of songs from the old country.

lol Doubt they were coming over with sail boats in 1910.

YOUNG ARI (4), a rambunctious, slightly grubby tomboy, pokes their head out of a steerage window and gapes at the Statue of Liberty. They rush past their MOTHER (37) and sisters SARAH (15) and RIVKAH (17) to the top deck of the ship. They rush up stairs, push through hems of hoops skirts, and jump gates as they ascend from steerage. Their mother and sisters trail them, but they can’t keep up. Ari reaches the mast and starts to climb as their family reaches the top deck.

They/their. Oy vey.

Here’s what’s wrong with Lindsay’s script:
  • Nobody would be using a singular they when they know the gender of the person
  • The dialogue is choppy and it sounds like something you’d hear in an elementary school play
  • Ariella is given the Disney Princess treatment and has a pet squirrel (if she’s going to have a pet, give her a cat or dog instead)
  • The pacing is off and it makes the story sound all over the place
  • Ariella is given absolutely no faults
  • The “villains” are one dimensional (the villains in this so far are people who question Ariella’s choice to not dress girly)
  • Ariella is constantly told how special and strong she is, without any demonstration of those traits
  • This is more of a personal nitpick: having a woman (even a cross dresser) working construction would be highly unlikely. There were some tomboys in that period, make her a newsie instead, as it’s much easier to fake being a guy when you don’t have to do too much heavy lifting. Also, there were a number of worker protests she could join as well, which you could make her into an activist (to fit your social justice needs)
Tl;dr Only read if you’re into Mary Sues

That description was confusing. When I read "they cross-dress", I thought it meant t he mother and sister were doing that.

Language conventions exist for a reason.

That’s how I read it too and thought, “Wait, this is about crossdressing ghosts?”

The Shirtwaist Fire is also a huge WTF to use in a kid’s movie. Most of the people that died were women and girls, and many of them jumped out the windows to their deaths. Bodies were piling up on the sidewalk and there are plenty of photos that show the aftermath. From one eyewitness:

“Word had spread through the East Side, by some magic of terror, that the plant of the Triangle Waist Company was on fire and that several hundred workers were trapped. Horrified and helpless, the crowds—I among them—looked up at the burning building, saw girl after girl appear at the reddened windows, pause for a terrified moment, and then leap to the pavement below, to land as mangled, bloody pulp. This went on for what seemed a ghastly eternity. Occasionally a girl who had hesitated too long was licked by pursuing flames and, screaming with clothing and hair ablaze, plunged like a living torch to the street. Life nets held by the firemen were torn by the impact of the falling bodies.”

Finally, Shirtwaist Fire happened in 1911; construction on the Empire State Building didn’t begin until 1930. Is there a 19 year gap happening?

I think Lindsay has the right idea. The mother and sister realized they were becoming cross-dressing deviants like Lindsay, and then set themselves on fire as repentance before they could harm children.

A truly heartwarming experience for the whole family.

I think Lindsay meant that the protagonist was an orphan because her mother and sister (no dad?) died in that fire when she was a child and then, she joined the ESB as a man when she was an adult...

Jesus Christ, this plot is a mess.

Why couldn't the women die in any other circumstance? If she wanted to use THAT, then make it about Yentl (gonna call her now from now on) being older and wanting to work there but not allowed for "being a man", and say they only employed women bc they wanted to pay them less.

Or, make the mother and sister die before, as in during the trip (due to harsh conditions) and leave Yentl alone to try to take care of her own and fight about her identity.

Jesus, Lindsay actually think she's inventing the wheel here with that plot. You have the original Yentl (woman dress as man to receive proper education), Even Lisa Simpson did that. Also, the immigrant story has been told once and again. There is also an Argentinian novela about a woman who had to dress like a man to have a job in the 70s.

AND THEN JOAN OF ARC.

This story is highly anachronistic, imo. And then, why making a tomboy a "they"'? People saying this trans shit is gay erasure and also misogynistic have a point. A girl can't just enjoy boyish stuff without being called "trans". You like trucks and play footbal, Annie? YOU ARE A BOY.

Fuck you, Lindsay.

Is Lindsay using the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory incident because it’s one of the only things she remembers from high school history? She could have been more creative and maybe made her mom die on the trip to New York and made Ariella the oldest, so she would have to become a mothering figure. In that time, let’s say she meets a girl and they fall in love and have a Boston Marriage where they care for the kids and her lover is there under the guise of an extra parental figure. Poverty strikes and the family is then forced to live in squalid conditions and in order to make money, Ariella and her lover pose as men.

Creativity and a plot that makes some modicum of sense leaves less room for hamfisted political agendas.

It will be interesting to see how Lindsay portrays the owner of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. They were pretty awful -- employing Jewish and immigrant girls, treating them basically as slaves and locking the doors so they wouldn't take unauthorized breaks. They also happened to be Jewish ... Russian Jewish immigrants. I'm guessing she'll leave out the Jewish part. Just sayin'.

Also, why would any woman fight to work on building the Empire state building? That was hard and dangerous work. And honestly was probably not a very high paying one. It would make more sense if she wanted to do something like be a writer or a business woman (where she could employ immigrants and Jewish girls and NOT exploit them).

But, her Queer Kids stuff already proved that she has no creativity or talent for writing good scripts. I don't know why I'm surprised this idea is so bad. It's not worse than anything else she's done.

I guess she wants to “prove” that non binary people can do whatever they want, biology be damned. As you said, it makes no sense. People died building those skyscrapers. Heck, let’s say that Ariella has excellent sewing skills and is able to create her own business at a time when women owned businesses were few and far between. Why must Ariella be trans/non binary? I swear, every idea here is better than that abomination of a script.

The Shirtwaist plot is all of three scenes. Its only purpose is to kill off Ari’s mom and one of her sisters. There’s nothing deeper to it.

Why couldn’t they die of influenza, pneumonia, or tuberculosis? Why did she have to make it a dramatic fire? The way the factory incident happened in the story was not handled the best way. It made light of how terrible the fire, and working conditions actually were. If Lindsay did any actual research, she’d know that this specific incident sparked more protests for workers rights.

It's a bad sign if even the very brief summary provided for a story is a disorienting non sequitur, not to mention a hideously long run-on sentence.

Lindsay supposedly has a Masters degree. You would never tell based off that atrocious screen play. I’m sure a regular joe in a creative writing 101 course could write a better, more coherent screen play than this.

For the curious, here’s the Triangle Shirtwaist scene:

Oh yeah, this isn’t just a play, it’s supposed to be a musical.
