Edit: And, wait, I'm not up on the show's mythology, but isn't Steven's mother supposed to be a gem? How can a genderless gem that just happens to look female be a little boy's mother, exactly?

The Gems can shapeshift, so the assumption is that Rose Quartz took on a fully functioning female form (say that 5 times fast) in order to conceive a child with Steven's human father. She died giving birth to Steven, which is why he has her gem imbedded in his stomach. It's not clear if the act of childbirth killed her (since they normally don't reproduce sexually), or that giving birth to him was some form of self-rebirth/reincarnation - which would be supported by the fact that several Gems like Jasper have referred to Steven as Rose.

Putting a "my kid is QUEER" sticker on your car seems like the equivalent of writing in big letters, "please key my car."
:alog:Which, incidentally, is what I would do to this woman's car if I happened to see her giant rainbow queerpowered vehicle on the roam. :alog:
That said, her videos seem to be targeted at the same elusive audience that Labelle's children's books are aimed at. Who is raising all these "3-7 year old queer children," without incurring a visit from CPS?

SJWs.

Who knows. I don't know any sane parent who would do that. Kids say they're stupid shit all the time. If any of you ever have kids, they're going to say they're Power Rangers and superheroes and animals and everything in between. It's a given. Kids are stupid.

I dunno but they're pretty rich if Labelle's world speaking tours are anything to go by.

Has this bitch never worked on a theater production?

She did a play for her college. Sounds enthralling.

"When I was in undergrad, I directed a play called The Transition of Doodle Pequeño by Gabriel Jason Dean that features a young boy who likes to wear dresses. We toured that production to local elementary and middle schools in Evanston, IL. One school principal was not too keen on the LGBTQ+ themes. In the middle of the play, she marched into the auditorium, in full view of the audience, and took me aside. She asked if this was a play “promoting cross-dressing,” and “sexualizing kids,” all behind one of the set pieces, barely concealing the discussion from the audience. I eventually made sure that she wouldn’t stop the performance mid-show, but a lot of the damage had already been done."

So this woman has not only been making shitty youtube videos for kids, but she also went touring around a city spreading this shit to kids in person.
Also the principal's comment on the play "sexualizing kids" is genuinely terrifying. How did the play sexualize kids and WHY did Lindsay think that was appropriate?

Especially worrying is that kids who are the children of or in the care of these kinds of nuts will start "identifying as" what the adults want. Kids lack source monitoring and they want to please the adults in their life, so this is just gonna fuck them up as they grow.

Excuse you, those children are otherkin. How very queer- just like weekly allowances, apparently!

I think you're being a little naïve about that, honestly. Sugar may have said that they're just gems that happen to look female, but she has also acknowledged that the show is shot through with feminist and LGBTBBQ themes, and said:

Plus, if I understand correctly, gems aren't the only things that fuse in the show. Isn't there some ridiculous fusion of a little boy and a little girl into a bizarre creature looks like a monstrous tranny?

Edit: And, wait, I'm not up on the show's mythology, but isn't Steven's mother supposed to be a gem? How can a genderless gem that just happens to look female be a little boy's mother, exactly?
And I think you're taking this too seriously. It's a cartoon made for children. Not a treatise on how the LGBTQ are treated in society and must be represented by genderless constructs who still appear to have a gender so therefore two of them being in love means they're automatically lesbians. She's all about this, OPL was all about this, a lot of trannies and queer crusaders are all about this but in the end they're all just guessing.

As Freud himself once said, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar". The show is whatever Rebecca Sugar wants it to be.

It's almost a word salad of nonsense, also I guess they've never heard of pantomime if they think theatre for kids by adults is impossible.
Everything in this case needs to be filtered through the idea that gender is fluid and the equipment you're born with doesn't determine whether you're male or female.

But the fact is that this does matter a great deal. I don't care if 10% of the population is trans, that still means that gender is determined by your genitals. Even people that are gay and lust after those with the same equipment as they have identify as the gender they were born into. This is part of why we shouldn't be confusing children with the whole concept of being trans because for the first eight years of their lives, gender doesn't mean anything to them other than again whether you have an innie or an outie. It only later when you start getting hormonal that things, potentially, start getting difficult.

The synopsis:
"Queer topics are still taboo in cultural products for young people despite increasing representation of LGBTQ+ stories in popular culture and the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States. This book explores ways in which theatre artists and creators could represent queer topics to young people without facing controversy. Using Kathryn Bond Stockton’s theory of the queer child, this book establishes that all children are queer and that this queerness should be reflected within their cultural products. Stockton’s theory joins those of theatre scholar Matthew Reason who claims that theatre for young audiences (by adults) is impossible. This impossibility leads to the conclusion that theatre for young audiences cannot reflect the queer child without facing resistance from heteronormative thought within schools defined by Foucault's heterotopic relational space. Barrel of Monkey's ensemble in Chicago, IL circumnavigates this rejection by allowing the queer child to create their own stories, paving the way for other mediums to truly reflect the queer child, by positioning the child as both creator and spectators."

Not only is it nonsense, it is a complete, willful misreading of Foucault. He wasn't implying that society or schools were trying to suppress gayness in children, he was examining the juxtaposition between cultural spaces and institutions and the element of time that goes hand in hand with those things.

He wasn't using the prefix "hetero-" to refer to "heterosexual", but why would I expect an SJW to make that basic distinction?

For once, there actually was an audience to stand up and clap.

On the "about" page of her tumblr: "I lacked a positive queer role model in the stories and media I consumed as a young person. If I had a queer story to look to as a kid, there's a chance my life would have been a little bit different, for better or for worse."

She's not even convinced that consuming "queer" media as a child would have made her life better. Even she isn't sure that teaching LGBT stuff to kids is a good thing and she still does it.
