@We Are The Witches
I don't think that the Republican party is trying to take away gay marriage either, I think it is just Democrats fear mongering. There are a lot of LGBT Republicans. I feel like it's the very extreme right-wingers that want it overturned. But then again, Roe v. Wade got overturned, and people didn't expect that, so I can kind of understand the fear. It is maybe possible that with enough push for it, that maybe the Supreme Court justices could rule in favor of moving things back to how they were pre-2015, where each state individually decided upon if they had gay marriages, as opposed to the way things are now, where it is legal federally in all states. Even with Roe v. Wade being overturned, it didn't make abortion fully illegal everywhere, it just made it so that abortion laws were decided on a state-by-state basis.
I very much like the Logic Cabin Republican-style of things, which are gay Republicans that don't want to bring back the 1950s and don't want America to become a Christian theocracy. I feel like I have values more aligned with the Republican party as well. The reason I don't identify with either major American party is because of the fact I like politicians from both.
I think in order for there to be more than just two parties that win in the U.S., we'd kind of have to change the structure of how our government operates, and that's very hard to accomplish. For example, in terms of presidential elections, a president can lose the popular vote, yet still win through the Electoral College. But I do support the idea of overhauling the government's structure. There are states trying to make abolishment of the Electoral College a reality (aka the "
National Popular Vote Interstate Compact").
Your point is clearer now. I have a social media account where I identify foremost as a Radical Second-wave Feminist, and list out what that means for me, rather than identifying as a Republican. What I care about most is the protection of women and children, above all else. So in a way, I do already advocate more for causes, than a party. I agree that I wish more people did that, since not everything has to be super polarized and partisan.
