I cant help but love the drama of the kpop community. My favorite thing is the fans of a group called Kep1er, a girl group formed through a tv show. The main drama is over whether or not a certain member should have made the cut. Theres a subreddit (r/kep1erOT8 )dedicated to specifically shitting on that one member and i find it hilarious. they are VERY passionate.

I admittedly used to do a little trolling on kpop twitter, because I happen to enjoy a group that many stans DESPISE. It is unreasonably funny to interact with accounts that say shit like "dont fucking interact if you like x!" They always melt down so hard, youd think its an act. it isnt. Oh, and theyre usually teenagers obviously, and if they disagree with someone who is older than 20, they almost always call them a Hag. In the kpop world youre a hag if over 20. its sad. (:_(

My most favorite moment was getting put on a blocklist for saying Koreans are usually educated enough to know what a swastika is. Essentially I was told "my favorite idol is too stupid to know about nazis!!! koreans are uneducated!!!" :story:

Theres also insane infighting. Sometimes people will stan one member of a group, even if the member doesnt do solo stuff...? Its very strange, but funny when they pull photocards of other members and get pissy.

I'm absolutely amazed at how quickly kpop stans seem to forget that a lot of it is very manufactured and that even when idols say they're super healthy and feeling good it's probably not very true

BIBI is a good recent example. Cried about her company mistreating her, people then obviously supported her only for the company and herself to come out with statements about how dramatic she was just because she's tired/working on an album and how the company is really wonderful. People on Reddit then slowly changed their tune into how everyone is overreacting and how BIBI is totally fine

It's wild to see because even if there's some truth to her just pushing herself to work, surely the company has (or should have) some sort of duty to care for her health

Link to some Reddit threads - Reaction to the live where BIBI broke down, reaction to the company statement, reaction to the most recent statement by BIBI

Most of the stuff that would show Kpop idols are overworked are typically suppressed. Especially if you are popular.

Why do people hate on this girl so much? kek
Theres some theories.

One is that since shes the sister of an already popular boy group member. The fans of that group gave her extra attention and votes.

The second is that since Bahiyyih is half brazilian, the south american and international fans pushed her because they wanted a self insert.

Basically her detractors say she didn't get in because of her skills, but due to her connection with her brother and background.

theres a lot of reasons. The people on the subreddit i mentioned talk about their reasons sometimes. theres so so many different opinions but it usually boils down to her not really being present on the show, so it doesnt make sense that she was picked. that and her brother.

kpop stans normally do this thing where they kind of... dont like an idol, then find any and all reasons to justify it? if that makes sense. a good example off the top of my head is the group Mamamoo. they are one of the few groups that really started from nothing but made it big (and are noticeably different than other groups. they sing live always, and are much older than most idols.) people didnt like them, then they had some "controversies" that would have meant nothing if a western celeb did the same shit, and people latched on and will obsess over hating them instead of, yaknow, enjoying their favs. its honestly insane. it was mostly Loona and Blackpink stans i believe. they celebrated mamamoo getting into a car accident. they prayed for them to disband on their 7 year anniversary (kpop groups usually dont make it past 7 years, the usual contract length), they changed the titles and subtitles on mamamoos youtube videos to racist stuff, they make up and spread dating rumors because that shit can be career ruining in kpop (mamamoos company is pretty lax on dating and has stated they dgaf what they do, theyre literally 30 year old women)

anyways, this could be something that happens to other groups too, maybe im just biased because they are pretty much the only group i actually like, but ive never seen it on the same scale. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ the best decision ive ever made was getting off kpop twitter a few years ago. ive been so much happier since. seeing all the shit i mentioned genuinely degraded my mental health.

kpop twitter: not even once

Min Hee Jin, chief brand office for Hybe, apparently has a history of glamorizing paedophelia. There seems to be a bit more to this, mostly her work at SM, but I've only really seen it pop up on TikTok accounts - there's this Reddit thread about how the accusations are false (I haven't actually read it but from a brief glance it does mention the stuff I've seen on TikTok)

Ngl, I found the Attention MV a bit uncomfortable given they're all minors. It's not extreme or anything, I'd just expect a group made up of such young idols to do a more cute concept, though that also has a certain level of creepy to it. I must just be getting old

Nothing much to add other than I opened twitter for the first time in a while and was surprised to see this being talked about on my timeline. The top response is hilariously delusional. "Cookie" has been a euphemism for vagina/sex forever, I can't believe anyone would even try to defend it.

Edit: Kept looking at the replies under the tweet and people are coping hard. The funny thing is that most of the people saying it isn't sexual all have different "real" reasons why it's ackchually an innocent song. The combination of the lyrics+Min Hee Jins history makes it extremely hard to defend. I feel bad for those girls, but its fun to laugh at the fans.

The Podesta of Kpop
This is definitely giving me some, Tony Podesta's art collection vibes here. And to defend this woman that has pictures of Brooke Shields on her Instagram, "Because she is projecting an innocent vibe from these girl groups." You are either ignorant or complacent in it. Brooke Shields was the earliest example of a child star being sexualized at a young age. One of the most sickening parts of her career was that she was a part of a Playboy publication when she was 10 YEARS OLD. Another part is that she was in the movie Pretty Baby, a movie about a child prostitute at the age of 12, which she was at the time. You can argue that minor actors have played a "mature" role but in this case, the movie had NUDE SCENES of her when she was 12 years old.

Here is the Parent Guide of IMDb of Pretty Baby. The character Violet is played by Brooke Shields

One of the things I found funny is many of these K-Pop stans (or at least, users with k-pop avatars) will be among those on social media complaining when a Western celeb gets accused of doing "cultural appropriation" or getting extensive surgery or bleaching/overly tanning their skin, while seemingly stanning the same K-Pop artists who have also gotten extensive surgery and or bleached their skin. And that's not getting into the whole rabbit hole of people accusing many K-Pop stars of ripping off American Hip-Hop or R&B.
Interesting to see the development of this story because it often doesn't stop at just posting pictures of a teenage girl.

Also, its kind of fitting that they chose to post pictures of young Brooke Shields given how she was the subject of heavy debate due to her sexualization as a teenager.

the funny thing is that all her retarded haters really only shot themselves in the foot with all their disproportionate sperging. I saw a lot of people who felt bad for her and checked her out/gave her positive attention out of pity. Which only made her look more overrated in her haters' eyes. Vicious cycle really.

Even before all this min heejin creepo shit got big i was already side-eyeing the fact that they put the 14 yr-old in that tiny-ass black top. I saw fans trying to defend that like "teenagers wear that shit all the time1!1!" which 1. maybe i just live in prudeville but in my experience they really don't, and 2. she didnt choose that outfit, a fully grown adult did. Not saying you gotta dress'em up like nuns but I've seen bralettes that were more modest than that.

Unfortunately, no matter how much this gets talked about, the group already has a bunch of preorders which means that the company has already achieved their goal. My bet is that this'll all blow over by the end of their next comeback because kpop fans cant boycott for shit. Sucks for the girls, theyre the real victims, but the company wont give a damn about some complaining on social media as long as the fans keep supporting them and they get their cold, hard cash.

All the makeup and and padding really just does call more attention to how young the girls are. Feel like I'll get on a list watching these.
