This obviously isn't going to lead immediately to reunification, but it's certainly a step.

It might just seem like a nameless thing on paper to end a war that's not been doing anything for years, but for KJU , someone who needs to be somewhat of a strongman, to take this step is pretty big.

It would take decades to even prepare NK for reunification in either case- as a comparison reunifying Germany was hideously expensive and the gap between those two countries was nowhere near as big.

Not to mention that North Koreans are kept in a bubble. They don't know anything about the outside world. They don't know what the internet is or what even a scorpion is. How do you utilize these people? Like you said, it's going to take a long time but this is a tremendous first step.

I mean you can do that now. Just don't steal one of their little flags like the last idiot or you'll end up on your death bed sooner than expected :\

Iirc the amount of hoops and chutes you need to go through to even visit isn't worth it. Even then you can only a non-Korean citizen to be eligible.

Besides, those trips are just propaganda fluff and a ski trip

Yes and no.

As was mentioned earlier in the thread, they aren't as stupid or misinformed as people would lead you to believe. Getting access to South Korean media like radio for example is popular, though it's obviously something that's been stamped down on.

Even when it comes to the stupid crazy stuff that the Kims claim to have done, many of the people there believe them to be metaphors for other things.

The main thing isn't necessarily that, but the actual level of education the average person in NK has, and whether they can even be much use in the workforce.

If this had happened two years ago, Obama would be up for sainthood, but it happened on Trump's watch, so it's clearly a sign of the apocalypse.

Yeah, you're kept on an island with constant survellience, and everyone around you has been coached how to act, so its really not even worth it unless you just want to see NKs nature. Well, the nature on that particular island. From a distance. On a rigid tour schedule.

But holy fuck man. I'm not ready to believe this is the end, or that China/Russia didn't have something to do with it for their own sinister self-interests (or KJU's self interests for that matter), but I am willing to give a golf clap for the meme meister. Broken clock and all that.

EDIT: just had a thought. About a year ago I went on a binge about NK and I remember watching a doc on YouTube that included hidden footage from NK citizens, including a convo between two wealthier citizens about their distaste for KJU (ending with "but lets talk about more pleasant things" or some such less then 30 seconds in). IIRC there's divide between citizens on not seeing KJU as living up to his father/grandfather, and being too young and inexperienced for leadership. Could that have something to do with this move?

The biggest casualty of the North and South Korea Peace summit is feminism. I can't wait for these Gangnam thots to freak out when the dudes they've driven insane start dating military North Korean girls who can flash mob breakdance with AK's.

I love this. I love this so much.
Years and years of Presidents ignoring the North Korean problem, and then a person that the media has spent years trying to paint as crazy steps into the job and things start happening.

Honestly China just needed a new country to dump their child labor on and NK seemed like the best bet.

At least we'll get to continue having really cheap electronics for a few more years.

BEST TIMELINE EVER

For real though
even though they both speak korean I wonder how different the languages are since they've been seperated for so long?

People forget under the Rocket Man memes and Dennis Rodman jokes that Kim Jong Un literally assassinated his older brother in cold blood after just offing his staff left and right.

Understandably Kim Jong Un's trying hard to fill his father's shoes with all these power moves, but can't. Its this attempt to emulate a past leader that gets the upper class derisive over new management

North Korea was slowly starving themselves for a long time. Trump's unpredictable nature and confusing statements on Twitter was a huge tipping point for the country to take action, but it was inevitable. Kim just needed an opportunity to act that doesnt make him look weak, and a peace treaty will help his country live longer.

Kim Jong Un is pretty much the modern equivalent of Iranian Republic's first shah. Just a puppet to bigger countries needing leverage. You know, except with nukes
