Normally North Korea news goes in the mega thread but this is probably the biggest thing since the Berlin Wall came down and deserves it's own stand alone. You can see the meeting between the two leaders and crossing each others' boarders while holding hands for pictures before the peace summit.
This is the ONE thing I thought would never happen in this time(world)line, any kind of significant peaceful settlement between the Koreas. While I still fully doubt any prospects of reunification, a detente between them is still a massive step forward
This is good.
Something I thought we would never see the end of. Hopefully this will allow the world to explore NK and see just how dire things are there.
So what's the difference between this and previous Korean unification efforts? Wasn't there the whole Sunshine Policy thing which previous left-leaning South Korean leaders like Roh Moo-hyun attempted? I'm skeptical this will actually be the end for real.
I have a feeling this is gonna be the start of a beautiful friendship.
I hope this lasts and, in time, could lead to reunification if the North ever gets on better economic standing. There's no way that the South will want them if they'd have to pay the money to refurbish the joint. If North Korea improves at all then this truly is a great day.
If this puts an end to the autistic nuclear dickwaving and North Korea raises the standard of living so their citizens aren't in perpetual starvation mode, that would be wonderful, but I'm not going to be optimistic for awhile until I see actual change.
I really want to believe this will last. The cult of personality the North has is still a threat and obstacle to the reuinification of Korea, but at least this is a step in the right direction. At least it's not more of the same, which certainly wasn't good for anyone.
