From what I understand, the combat is meant to be screwy until you get far enough in to meet an actual teacher, which makes sense considering the main character is an illiterate goon who’s trying not to die.
Pretty much that.
When your stats increase, it also becomes easier to fight. Not only does your stamina increase, but you can also learn how to do combos and stuff.
I mean, I still suck at combat, but it's really rewarding when you manage to defeat an enemy.
Also, does anyone have any tips for when you’re starting out? I got the game at launch, but haven’t started yet because I keep trying to not suck at Dragon Ball FighterZ.
It depends, I can't yet give you a lot of advice in terms of long-term stategies.
But I'll give you one piece of advice: If a Priest called "Godwin" invites you for a drink... do it.
This is the only complaint so far, during my first horseback ride I kept trying to go offroad, which led to the expected end...
The rest, hunger and other survival features dont feel obtrusive at all.
I'm a few hours in and it seems the game now allows me to roam a lot more freely and I get the feeling that trend is going to continue. I guess they just put the player into a situation where they keep a tight grip on the protagonist during the prologue, so that he doesn't wander off and end up where he shouldn't yet be... also, the prologue is very emotional, allowing a player too much freedom might be bad for the tension and suspense.
As I said, it feels like the game is allowing me more freedom now and if that continues, it might be an interesting aspect of the story that for a certain time, you end up under the control of others, which kind of highlights the protagonists situation and how he slowly regains his independence.
But in order to really contemplate that, I need to see how this all pans out.
