I think it's plausible that he spent a fair bit of money on her - maybe $5000-10,000 total at a very rough (uneducated) guess (airfares, entertainment, phone account, dinners etc)

I don't believe his financial woes are as bad as he reports. I think he thought his tax bill was going to be around $10k and he didn't have that amount so the heavy begging started

He likely lives pretty much pay check to pay check - any other unexpected bills probably go on credit until a pay pig throws $ at him for attention; and on days off he can take Kat out for dinner

I think he might’ve mentioned marriage in regards to Kat because he realizes he’s on the downward in all aspects of his life. He’s becoming less relevant, more unhealthy, money is starting to get tighter and tighter... I think he knows that Kat is kinda the best middle ground he’s gonna get. Actually you may be underestimating Phil's realization that mentioning these outings has invited people to conclude he's not struggling financially. He probably still does it sometimes but now usually shuts up about it. He lets slip occasionally that they go out once a week usually but seldom confirms this to keep up the pretence of poverty.

She was in her early twenties and enjoyed gaming. Dave, in his thirties, was beginning to see 'gaming' as his work not something he'd do for fun. He did, however, play games in his 'off time': grinding lvls in DS off screen downstairs and throwing wads of 'Pay-to-Win' cash at his mobile games.

he may go out with Kat (to a nice dinner or other outing weekly)...BUT in order to continue to be able to *legitimately* ask people to send him money online to pay his 2 mortgages and house/car bills, for the service of playing video games & streaming, he has decided to refrain from telling the people that give him money that he actually goes out (unless he slips up)

I think this set up is rationalised by snort in that (& I think he has said) detractors hurt him with information he discusses...delusional
