I don't know if the development history supports this but it feels like it should be a survival horror and they retooled it massively on the fly)
Nah, I'm pretty sure after the first one they decided they wanted it more action oriented and it just feels that way because of the engine and tank controls.

Well I will say that I'm glad we're finally going to get a new Jurassic Park game that is fully realized action/horror and is not a tycoon simulator for the first time in what seems like decades. It's kinda funny because up until Operation Genesis in 2002 the opposite was the case where every JP game was dinosaur action when what everyone really wanted was to try a hand at building an island of their own.

I don't hold out much optimism for media products anymore but this might at least be interesting to see unfold. One thing that I noticed was that this game shares the same name as the cancelled Resident Evil style Jurassic Park III game they were going to release for PS2/XBox back in the day. Additionally the possibility of a fully realized Trespasser-style Jurassic Park game on modern engines is kind of exciting. People give the game shit now but Trespasser had a lot of potential and innovative ideas for its time that simply were not adequately accounted for and because it was overeager and poorly handled it unfortunately crashed and burned hard.

As far as the pootagonist is concerned in my opinion at least she's not a nog. And although I find the "ambiguously brown badass chick with a British accent" trope insufferable at least her being Indian sort of makes sense in this situation, especially taking into account what @Tiggletown said which actually makes it possibly make logical sense for her to have the background she does. At the very least it makes far more sense for her to be British-Indian than to be a British nig-nog. As long as she has minimal contact with other humans in the game so as to reduce the probability of her acting like a fucking cunt to other characters as is mandatory for female characters in woke modern fiction, she might be at least somewhat tolerable to play as.

I've always been partial to the Telltale Jurassic Park game from 2011 which takes place at the same time and place this story does, so I'm kind of hoping that this new game doesn't really do much to retcon that one, even if the Telltale game is only now considered by most to be "soft canon".

I don't have much to say about the new game, but I guess cautious optimism is about as good as it gets these days, so let's go with that. I'm not going to hate on the Indian protagonist until I have a reason to.

Speaking of Trespasser though, I'm surprised it hasn't had more attention from the modding community. I get that it's probably a super jank system to work with but with modern tech surely someone could just rebuild it from scratch. It wasn't a huge game (from what I remember) so couldn't be that hard to slap together some kind of recreation. Getting "the arm" to work outside of VR probably needs more time and skill to pull off, but I'd be ok with a more traditional FPS setup. Of course, this game screams out to be put on VR and in the hands of a talented and funded devs team, I could see it standing alongside Half Life Alyx.

Playing GTA V years ago when I saw this billboard for the first time it made me think of Trespasser.

So if they go the alien isolation route will the raptors be pursuit enemies throughout with splashes of the other dinosaurs or do you think it will vary section by section?
The game will undoubtedly have crafting mechanics included, occasional computer related puzzles and guns that do virtually no damage to the dinosaurs.

Does Alyx have the traditional Valve mod support? It may be a good base for the kind of recreation you're talking about.
There have been a few total conversion mods for HLA, so I'm sure there are some extremely talented people out there who could make it happen. Only problem I can see is that the game is designed around narrow spaces, not wide open areas like what you'd want from a Jurassic Park game.

It makes sense in Alien Isolation for the alien to be super persistent in hunting you down because that's exactly what it does. Not so much for the raptors or T.Rex, so hopefully it'll be a new kind of threat in each new area, with maybe one or two recurring enemies for set pieces. They can't use humans or robots as more mundane enemies so I'm not sure what they'll use as the more common enemies. I'm also guessing it's going to be a lot more fast-paced than Isolation, with less emphasis on stealth. I guess we'll see.

I would guess the most recurring enemy should be the Rex as it is the biggest threat. And maybe also the one to best manipulate to clear smaller predators out of your way.

So, regarding the raptors. It was never really established in the movie how many of them there were. They implied there was breeding going on, but also at the same time they seemed to imply there were just the three in the pen. It was a little confusing.

In the book, there were a lot of raptors... We never find out for sure how many, but given they had been escaping the island in a big enough number to establish an apparent breeding population on the mainland, there could easily be dozens. Even after book-Muldoon blew some up with a rocket launcher. Grant had a theory as to how many there were based on the nest they examined, but there could have been more than one nest, or he could have been wrong. The point is, they were certainly breeding, and they could be lots of them.

It will be interesting to see how that goes.

Also interesting is when exactly the story is set. It seems to be set during the storm, but at that point the island wasn't abandoned. It still had some people on it. Hell, a good chunk of the movie takes place during the storm. So that, too, will be interesting.

In the movie Muldoon says "She killed all but two of the others" when referring to the Alpha Female and since the raptors were not free roaming like a lot of the other dinosaurs and in close lockdown we can assume the three is the hard number for them, Minus the two that Rexy got that leaves one locked in the freezer assumed to have died but now we see it escaped.

So we most likely have one pissed off Raptor chasing us throughout the movie, it also assumes the game won't let us just blow it up the first time we see it so I bet it will be a recurring enemy.

In the book they had caves of raptors breeding and they rolled in cans of nerve gas to murder them but they got out on the mainland.

I agree about the storm part, I wonder how they will handle that

It's hard to tell because sometimes they changed things from the book and sometimes they didn't...

The movie has the scene where Grant finds the egg shells in the park. I just went and watched it again... In the book he explicitly calls them out as being raptor eggs. In the movie, he doesn't say that. I guess I assumed we were still supposed to assume they were, but the tracks leading away from them in the movie are kind of unclear as to what they belong to.

They do use the same egg shells as the first raptor hatching scene so it's very possible even probable since it's a main plot point of the book, but I think it's more of a loose end or Easter egg than anything else.

If the game takes place during the events of the movie those raptors are days/weeks old and probably dead since the known adults are also dead or disabled.

I just don't think even with the hubris of man and the reliance of technology being the main themes they would not notice an extra pack or two of blood thirsty clever girls rampaging around.

I would like DC to return but it's better to stay dead. They would benefit from remakes. But I'm over the dark hallway walking sims.
Imagine a Dino Crisis game with the RE Engine. Too bad they decided to make a weird Overwatch/EDF clone instead.

Just make up your own version like that dude did on Steam with Fossilfuel.

I played it way back when it first came out like two years ago. It was alright for early access at the time, haven't played it since though. Must have gotten better cause I saw that dude was working on a sequel.
I looked at the trailer, it's very rough but it makes sense if it's made by one guy.

Well clearly he spared some expenses hiring poonigs
>play as Mia Khalifa
>main mission: pick up raptor poo with your COVID mask

That would be perfect honestly.

The zombie craze is so fucking dead and has been for many years. Dinos are way scarier... because those actually existed.

I'm probably taking my new GF to a Dino museum in the city next week or so since she's never been. They have a full scale Rex. It's incredible to see just how big they were in person.
The Forest is about savages, not zombies. But I can forgive you for the mistake, because the Forests enemies suck so much they might as well be zombies.

Me and my sister went to the shitty new dinosaur movie in the theaters a couple weeks ago. Early afternoon showing in the discount theatre, nobody else was there. We roasted the shit out of this terrible dinosaur movie like it was MST3K. It was fun as hell.

I KNOW it's going to be disappointing and not live up to any of our hopes, but me and my sister are so hyped for this game. The OG Jurassic Park is about the only movie we both can agree is 10/10 perfect.

We've had multiple conversations about this game and it boils down to basically if this game is anything like alien isolation but with dinosaurs! and lets us explore the OG park a bit... take my money right now

This could be fun but I have no confidence in it. Seeing the main character made me realize that just being a woman in India could be a scarier survival horror game. Try to navigate a village without being raped or sold for a donkey. Will you have the wits and courage to make it all the way to your call center job? The cast could be all indian which will be great diversity and representation!
