I assume saying, "I like Peterson" is because there's been a lot of bad faith and ignorant criticism and discussion around him. There's also a general version of Peterson being a bad person in the background people pick up on. I've heard people in real life when talking about the alt-right in America chuck Peterson's name in. Not knowing who he is, what he says but they picked up his name as a bad guy somewhere along the way.
I find that annoying. So I can imagine someone who is really into him would find it super annoying.
Sam is someone I just selectively listen to. I think the key with a lot of these figures is to be independently minded, have a preexisting foundation of perspectives. So you know when to listen, when not to, be willing to reject and disagree.
Know how to take the good, reject the bad. Which I will say, I tend to do a lot more with Sam than Peterson. I find Peterson a more good faith actor. Sam has some strict biases. It's kind of like Bill Maher, when we're aligned I enjoy. When we don't, I can see his bias and ideological positions and switch him off.
Whereas I could listen to Peterson and Douglas Murray chat endlessly. Even though I disagree with both of them on various issues and topics. With Murray, some of his fundamental world views I disagree with, but I enjoy listening to him. Listened to the Madness of Crowds twice. While Murray can be smug, he's not sanctimonious like Harris and Maher. I think that's what puts me off.
