I love how you go from saying "that's not what I'm doing" to then in your last paragraph repeat the exact thing you say idea you said you weren't arguing for
You said I was labelling every "slightly intelligent, weird" guy autistic. That's not what I was doing.

The fact is, though, a lot of guys fitting that desctiption are autistic. I'm pretty sure Peterson's one of 'em, for that, and many other reasons.

I wouldn't say the same of, just for exampke, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, C.S. Lewis, Neil Tyson, Mike Nelson, or James Randi. But Peterson acts way more spergy than any of those guys.

Have you heard him talk?

The constant rambling? The endless filler words (y'know)? The free-flowing topics that often seem incomprehensible in choice? The draining intensity? His inability to even pretend to look people in the eye?

It's like hearing quacks and guessing that there's ducks.

Not all autists are failures who live with their parents. Some are in the White House (Hi, Steve!). Some are billionaires (Hi, Mark!). Some are film directors (Hi, Quentin!).

Others are e-celebs. There's too many of those to mention.
watch his video with Camille Paglia. he looks her right in the eye throughout & its because he is returning her gaze. she is italian & looks people right in the eye, very direct. as a therapist, peterson mirrors what others do. this is why his interviews go sideways, since he ends up "interviewing them back" &won't be put in an interviewer's box. this is fallout from his years as a therapist.

i have a good friend who was a therapist (retired now or he'd be unbearable) & his worst habit is "meandering" & filling in silences with chatter - blahblahblah. i've told him: i love you man, but jfc, shut up.

he finally told me: you never know, as a therapist, what will get somebody to talk. so when patients are taciturn, resentful, angry & assigned counseling by the courts, he learned to be friendly, nonthreatening, keep talking until they trusted him. he would babble until, bingo, he mentioned a movie they liked or something they responded to emotionally. "at least its something" - good therapists can work with whatever is provided. "if all i got is seinfeld, well, at least i already know he probably identifies with one of those 4 people in some way"

this is why peterson talks on & on, its a habit of the therapeutic mindset. add to that, he was a teacher too.

in short, i think he learned this behavior. it isn't 'natural' to him but to his profession.

@GenderCop

That still doesn't explain his habits of filler words and stock phrases, nor his nasal tone of voice, nor his social media behavior, nor the sip of cider sending him on a month-long downward spiral.

Nor his constant obsession with bringing up his personal views into even his own therapy session, which is explicitly discouraged even among therapists who don't subscribe to the NPoV theory.

Even Lewis Lovhaug doesn't act as autistic as JBP.

Psychiatrists have one of the highest levels (possibly THE highest) of suicide per profession. listening to other people constantly often has the effect of making one become obsessed with oneself, as a comparison point. it can drive you crazy, if you weren't already.

i thought autistic ppl didn't feel empathy or couldn't express it? in that case, why does he practically start sobbing when he talks about his fanboys/eagle scouts? i think he genuinely cares about them.

he's depressed, not autistic. tagline has it right.

This is a common misconception. It's not completely baseless, but it's still a misconception.

A better way to put it is that it's the cognative empathy that's impacted, not the affective empathy.

It's perfectly possible for JBP to deeply care about his patients and still be autistic.

dude you are an idiot, stop embarassing yourself

guys I think Drumpf is autistic because he talks funny and posts on twitter

Gotta say, read the thread. Not really a fan of it. It's pure autism. I don't really think there's enough material for Jordan Peterson to be considered a lolcow and not even his cult of a fanbase and I'm not trying to mod, but I'm just saying, honestly. This isn't someone like Molyneux who ran a literal cult, it's just some finicky, goofy, neurotic psychologist that got popular for criticizing the left even though he's a man that merely only specializes in analyzing the human psyche. For he himself seems to adopt the weaknesses that he says to other people to overcome, while trying to overcome them himself who merely got popular and a fanbase because people often like to associate with people that they deem smart because that makes them smarter, or at least makes them feel smarter, Shows a sense of self-validation as one might say, which is natural for that kind of praise to come when you're a person like Peterson. You'll find the occasional tweet or vid where he's a bit off his rocker (and a bit too passionate about what he says, but someone with passion shows dedication to his craft), but he's not really lolcow-worthy. When I see Peterson, I don't see him on the levels of other political cows (Like Sargon or ShoeOnHead or Molyneux or NoBullshit) because he seems smarter and he also is more successful, albeit a bit crazy (though most people who specialize in psychology seem a bit crazy).

Hell, his fans aren't even interesting. I mean, I see the cult of videos where it's like "LULZ. JORDAN PETERSON POLITELY TAKES DOWN RABID FEMINIST", but they are really not that bad. It's not like Peterson made a cult based off of his ideas, they're just way too typical of the internet fanbases of other products, except more boring. This thread only exists because @lowkey has such autistic hate of the man that his hatred for Peterson manifested into a thread which has really fucking subpar content where the best posts are merely only memes making fun of Peterson because...that's funny. There's whole sections of this thread dedicated to arguing about @lowkey's hate and not really on topic because GUESS WHAT. There's nothing to talk about. What's the lulziest thing that Peterson has done anyway? Expressed his love for lobsters? Not juicy enough unless he fucked a lobster or watches lobsters fuck each other or expresses him wanting to fuck one. ANYTHING that he proves he's on some comedic level of lol-ocity. Honestly, one of the worst threads on this site with more than 10 pages.

Peterson's worst offenses have been greed, evasiveness, and poor judgement. He's certainly far from the worst person with a thread, and there's many less likeable people than him without threads as of now (Steve Terreberry, Shaun King, Stephen "Dr. Autism" Miller).

But greed, evasiveness, and poor judgement aren't trivial for people of Peterson's profile. Without a decent reality check, he will crater himself. I have a hard time imagining he'll wind up as low as Carl "Mass-shooter? More like mass-tutor!" Benjamin, but he's in the danger zone.

It's best he course correct now before real damage happens, unless he has skeletons in his closet far uglier than I suspect.

Why is this thread moving into talking about a theory on JBP having autism? You can question him on many things but choosing him being mentally askew from the norm seems like grasping at straws when you should be grasping and cleaning that penis

Yeah, but I don't really see evidence of greed anywhere or even poor judgment (aside from his diatribes on fairy tales). I get evasiveness, which is apart of neuroticism (which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the situation), but I don't really see him as a greedy money-hungry wrongdoing fellow.

The thread itself is informative for the perspective from which the OP delivers the bias as well as those that respond in kind or otherwise. Other than that, it reads more like an attempt to discredit Peterson and his work with regards to legislating speech.

This but semi-unironically.

Anyway Contrapoints' buddy Oliver PhilosophyTube guy released a video on JP today and I think it's appropriate to post here since it gets into Peterson's philosophy stuff. (esp. w/r/t how he talks about objectivity, subjectivity, relativism and nihilism and how he's wrong about & over-simplifies)

I think if there is one think everyone can agree on regarding Peterson is that he somehow summons weirdos like fucking magic.

Ehhh, if you're determined to submit yourself to some guru, you can do worse than JBP. A lot worse.

He is making over $700k/month and isn't ashamed of it I wish I was as greedy as he is ?
