With the ongoing lockdown of their Steam and dev forums, it looks increasingly like we may have a Dina situation going down here. Can't say for sure yet, but all the other common threads are in place.
I've not heard of this. What was this "Dina situation"?

Hoo boy.

Back during Mighty No. 9's development, there was an insane Social Justice Warrior named Dina Abou Karam who was put in charge of community management. She knew nothing about Megaman, was only there because she was fucking a developer, and from the moment she was appointed, began to push identity politics on the boards. She was quick to push diversity idiocy and scream at length about politics, and she sanctioned anyone who spoke out against her - on a forum where the posters were almost all big kickstarter backers. She claimed she was being harassed, of course, all the while insulting the people who called her out for her shit.

When Gamergate happened, she kicked it up to 11 and began banning anyone who spoke ill of her, criticized Zoe Quinn, or spoke out in favor of Gamergate. Banning people who had donated hundreds of dollars for disagreeing with her politically. It all came to a head when they did a charge-back campaign, costing Mighty No. 9 at least six figures that we know about, and led to Dina being shit-canned. By this point Comcept's reputation was in the toilet, and their ability to manage their community in tatters. It was generally considered the prototype fuck-up that would lead to Mighty No. 9's disastrously sub-par release.

Now for the lightning round: She was put up to injecting identity politics into the forum and censoring GG on the forum by Zoe Quinn. No joke.

What I especially hate about all this is that it demonstrates how politically intolerant everybody's becoming.

Yes, Jon said some stupid shit and was called out on it, but I don't think he deserved to be raked over the coals this badly. I don't think it's right to throw someone completely under the bus for having different political beliefs. And yet here we are, having his input in a game he no doubt wanted very badly thrown out the window because he dared to think differently.

SJW can do the dumbest shit and get their pompous asses kissed.

The ironic fascism of the SJWs screaming to censor dissent would be hilarious, if it wasn't actually being obeyed.

Freaking danger-haired oppressive treacherous scum.

im pretty sure a private company can do whatever the fuck it wants with its product, removing, changing, adding etc to it, but hey dont let that truth stop you from screaming over the internets

from a marketing perspective it makes total sense to distance themselves from jon, hes a fucking liability if he just kept his mouth shut he wouldnt be suffering from this

Yooka Laylee voice acting is just like Banjo Kazooie, 2-3 short grunts repeated over and over, so 99% of the players wouldn't even recognize Jon's voice anyway. In fact, i think most people had no idea he was going to voice a character (i sure didn't at least).

Sounds like they only did this for PR reasons.

Isn't Dina also the one who was so "proud" of having subvertly made the character Ray (a.k.a. the Zero lookalike nobody gives a shit about because they're barely even in it) a woman because of the socjus shit? Irony of course being it just made them look more like a guy because if there's one character look which looks like a girl and thus everybody assumes it's a guy...it's fucking Zero.

Yeah, but removing him is still going to generate negative PR Backlash. Jon absolutely loves ye olde Rareware titles and the 'Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts" video is basically a giant FUCK YOU on Jon's part toward how the game actually goes out of its way to mock the 'collectathon' nature of the original titles.

Getting rid of Jon means getting rid of probably the biggest supporter of that game entirely. But this isn't an ethics issue like say, Jeremy Clarkson punching a guy over a bowl of soup after a history of being difficult to work with, this is people fearing any association with a guy who made one or two ill-advised comments is somehow going to do more damage than their own decision to get rid of a guy with both a media coverage rivaling small news networks and actually could tell people why they should give a shit about reviving the old Rareware playstyle.

This is becoming MN9 all over again, where the end product gets ruined by controversy the actual playerbase doesn't give two shits about, because none of it should have anything to do with the end product being a good playable game.

Mighty No9 had waaay more issues, it was doomed to fail regardless, nothing about Yooka Laylee even comes close.

I said it was for PR because it was unnecessary and they probably did it for marketing, everyone is talking about the game and will keep talking until the release next month. People who don't know about this game will spread the word of "how the devs are against racism", while the outrage will diminish over time.

But of course, this is just my opinion and i might be wrong. I think this will depend mostly on how Jon answers them and i seriously can't see him "winning" this. It doesn't matter if he apologizes or fights back, Playtonic decision will be seen as justified.

Yep.

Also the brainchild behind Mighty No. 2, which is generally the most loathed character in the cast.

Jon responded. He seems to be taking it well.

I hope to god that this doesn't turn out the way it's hinting at. YL was supposed to be a legit love-letter to the fans from a developer that still wanted to do shit the old-fashioned way and knew there was a market for it. People had been clamoring for a new game in the series for fucking years, and I don't know any fan who was more excited for it than Jon himself.

Your bait sucks, but I'm gonna step on it anyway.

You're absolutely right that a private company is entitled to do what it wants with a given product. However, should that company say, cave to the demands of a vocal minority who wouldn't have purchased a given product in the first place (an easy thing to assume, given that Social Justice Warriors do not support any media designed specifically for them), then they really only have themselves to blame when the fucking inevitable happens.

This is especially important because the potential people who would be interested in the project because of Jontron is substantially higher than the number of professionally offended who bitched about Jontron being a Nazi. Even if only a tenth of Jontron's subscriberbase ultimately bought YL, that's hundreds of thousands of potential sales against a few thousand professionally offended who never would have bought the game to begin with.
