Republican Sen. John McCain, an internationally renowned Vietnam War hero who served for 30 years in the Senate representing Arizona, died Saturday due to complications stemming from brain cancer.

His office said in a statement that his wife Cindy McCain and their family were alongside him when he died.

"At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years," his office said.

McCain, 81, was a part of many of the past three decades' most significant political moments. He was the 2008 Republican presidential nominee in a contest he lost to President Barack Obama. He also sought the presidency in 2000, mounting a primary campaign against President George W. Bush.

A graduate of the Naval Academy, the Arizona Republican followed both his father and grandfather, who were four-star admirals, into the US Navy, where he carried out airstrike missions.

also for those of you who dont know what he did in 'nam that made him so damn infamous well here you go.

He always made sure military contractors got their share of the gravy, bless this man.

Mixed.

Glad he's gone from Congress. Glad that a person who thought it was okay to function in an intellectually challenging occupation while having a brain tumor -- which you know MAY contribute to impaired decision making -- no longer has functional say in how this country is run.

However, a man is dead, and I wouldn't wish death from cancer on anyone.

I didn't like him, did many wrong thing in his life , probably indirectly kill childrens and innocents to have more power power and is not a news that make me sad.
But let's be honest, almost all people who enter in politics have skeletons in the closet , and he had a family who will miss him.
So, I hope the best to his family and that people on the internet don't laught at his corpse more than 2 or 3 days.

Also, people are mad at him because he didn't beat Obama, thinking that another candidate would had beat Obama in 2008, which is pretty stupid reason to get mad at a politician and makes me wonder that some right winger are still stuck in early 00s (and should be fucking sucking SJW's girldick, because without them, people will still laught at them).

I wonder why so many people on here or anywhere for that matter are rejoicing over a politician dying? What did John McCain do to get that (besides run against Obama and lose?) I don't know enough of the guy to celebrate or to be too sad over.
In the vietnam days, he’s pretty much seen as a screwup who was only kept in because his important father would raise hell if he was discharged. My understanding is the he crashed several planes outside of combat for example. There are also arguements that he broke and supplied information to the Viet Cong that led to his countrymen getting killed. I don’t know if that’s true, but it wouldn’t surprise me. In modern times he’s known as the guy who ran against Obama with the most reeetarded vp in a long time, supporting retarded shit that could never help his citizenry, and literally palling around with terrorists.

I am actually intrigued how social media and image boards are EXPLODING with joy at his death. Twitter, facebook etc. are exploding with sarcastic replies to US government officials who are posting their obligatory RIP statements. How bad of an asshole do you have to be to unite NAZIS, ISLAMISTS and COMMUNISTS over your death?
