Scorsese dropped out as producer. But I still agree with you. Joaquin Phoenix is a fantastic choice for Joker and I think Todd Philips can pull it off. He certainly knows how to film anarchy:

Ah, that’s actually somewhat worrying, but didn’t Scorsese himself choose Todd Phillips? I certainly agree that Joaquin can do a bang up job.

Time will tell. It would be impressive if Phillips somehow made a worse film than Suicide Squad.

So here’s an extended trailer (trailer with unedited footage)
And more unedited footage
Gonna be honest, I’ll be pretty sad if they botch this movie. Everything so far indicates it might be pretty good. The fact they’re starting in the 80s, by itself, is highly intriguing.

It's definitely a new look for the Joker, which I like. Honestly, the casting of Phoenix I think is pretty solid. I'm wondering if it will pull stuff from The Killing Joke.

Apparently, Phoenix really wanted to do a full character-study kind of movie based on a superhero/villain with less capeshit and more drama/backstory stuff. So that's interesting.

What I'm hoping for is more of a creepy tragic film with some dark humor sprinkled in. That would be a lovely change of pace from goofy CG action shit. A subtler film with a smaller budget would be ideal and, if successful, would send the message to companies to calm the fuck down with the action and quippy one-liners.

I'm not in love with the makeup... When I tried to figure out why, all I could come up with is "it looks too clowny" and I immediately realized what a ridiculous criticism that was. Funny enough, I wasn't thrilled with the first pics I saw of Heath Ledgers take on the character either.
tl;dr : Eh, I think it could be good.

I am hesitant on what I'm feeling since it looks like i could be good but i have been so very wrong in the past i am trying to not be too hopeful

It looks entirely different from any previous take on the character we’ve seen before. I’m really curious to see this guy’s story.

Apparently Thomas Wayne is in it, and he’s a less sympathetic character than we’ve seen before, so that’s interesting too.

Nice to see DC trying something different, hopefully once this movie makes bank they will try more new stuff and not just make 10 movies with the same tone of this. With that being said I would I would totally be up for a Lex Luthor: Man of Steel movie.

Great trailer,Joaquin seems having nailed the role and the movie looks like a breath of fresh air in the comic book movie scene

Hope the movie get that late '70s/early 80's dirty and gritty atmosphere you can see in the trailer for good

Interesting, for sure, but prepare yourselves for we face at least six months of tedious hot takes like this
