I'll watch another episode of epitet erased, before that i'll point out some stuff i realized

1-Mera and Indus are just Yzma and Gronk
2-Giovani is just Jack Splicer from shaolin showdown

I assume everyone is "inspired", read stolen, by a popular cartoon or anime character that jello likes a lot

anyways: My thoughts on episode 1 are here

Episode 2, Bear Trap, starts right after episode 1

Episode 2 starts in a very expository way, with Molly pretty much summarizing the entirety of the previous scene.

Molly: hey uh, miss tour guide, what did you mean when you said "i'm gonna rob this museum" when you work for the museum. Isn't your job to preven the museum from being robbed?
mera: that was a cover
molly: oh. Thats why you're bad.
*gag ensues*
mera: we don't need to engage with this, we just need to do 3 things. Enter the museum, rob the amulet and take your epitet!

(intro plays out)
1775256743807.png1775256760499.png

I feel like jello doesn't trust the viewer enough to remember what happened 30 seconds ago and i don't know why. This is on youtube, anyone watching this can go back. This feels a little unnecessary.

Mera also says "I'm surprised you're concious. Our dual tech is enough to take mooks like you in one blow. Congrats!" but not only her tech does a bunch of blows, Giovani wasn't hit by it, he was only thrown by indus. I'm not trying to be pedantic but if you're going to explain what happened (in such an anime coded way too) then do it right.

Anyway, Mera tells indus to hold them in the dinosaur room. Indus says the dinosaur room is his favourite cause it has dinosaurs on it. But if he goes there who will protect lady mera? She scoffs and says she wiped them out with a flick of her hand, which offends giovani leading to more mockery. Giovani says loitering is very dangerous. She asks how and he says uh, you can loiter in front of truck, then cut to them locked.

1775257165846.png1775257213962.png
1775257237207.png1775257263452.png

I like Mera but i think Jello forgot that she only won because Indus made a barrier and molly nerfed giovani. She might be very powerful idk but so far she hasn't earned her smug aura. These conversations also make the show feel like i kiddy cartoon with no stakes.

I'm not asking for dark realism here but now the show is mocking the idea of Giovani ever being dangerous when 5 minutes ago he tried to gun down an unarmed woman (as far he knew) and cave her skull with a baseball bat. It's like Jello wants to have Doofenshmirts "harmless joke villain" but those aren't usually this murder happy.

Anyways, Giovani is locked with molly and i don't know why he doesn't just teleport out? We get more gags like giovani saying he wished to be locked inside dinosaur bones, like how he wrote in his will, cause he lives dangerously. Molly wrote has will cause she doesn't know when she will die.

1775258205027.png1775258278419.png

Indus is distracted watching dinosaurs and giovani wants the kid to help him escape cause they cant let that lady steal their epitet. I can already tell that Giovani will become molly's friend because i'm somewhat aware of his popularity and how much jello likes him.

But Molly says she wouldnt mind not having an apitet as she would still work on the store and lots of people don't have it and do okay.

1775258441400.png1775258450236.png

Urgh, it feels so weird to have a character in-universe say "your cool powers" like it's a normal real life person talking and not a living person inside that world. This is the part where molly says her power is lame and giovani compliments her for negating his bat swing. If he hit full strenght he would've clobbered her (so he was trying to kill her then). Molly says she was probably very strong and Indus too.

1775258600381.png1775258612386.png

Nigga what you mean "their proficiency" how the fuck do you know that. You saw indus do some barrier and mera break his barrier and throw the pieces (which idk if its his power or hers). That was all. How would you know their stats. Also, i went back and saw Indus has 3/5 proficiency and 1/5 creativity, not what i would call "really high".

Giovani says they must be strong as they beat his boys and molly says they're bad. Giovani then says molly should be his new boy. As giovani says, "Congratulations little girl, you've been promoted to BOY!" and i know he wouldn't make a joke like this nowadays as it would be taken as trans headcanon. Giovani says her name is bear trap now and she must find an escape while he gives her orders.

Molly calls Indus and asks if mera is her boss. Indus says she beat him in a fight so he decided to follow her and be her pupil so he can be strong like her. I wasn't expecting a motivation like this but i guess it's an easy one to justify. We get more gags like indus doing laundry training and tax paying traning. Molly does it too.

1775259000714.png1775259130131.png

Molly rationalizes that she saved mera from giovani so he owes us a favor and should let them out. He says he cant and molly gives up. Then giovani takes over and says indus must protect her from the dangerous thing out there. What thing? uh quicksand? then molly takes over and says minions. Cause there were other minions out there and she is in danger. Now he owes them 2 favors and lets them out.

1775259334944.png1775259378939.png

Molly then asks his phone to call pizza. He gives her and she calls police in front of giovani. He takes the phone back (well that was useless). He says she broke out of prison so now she is a criminal like him and she dramatically freaks out.

So, is molly just going to be stupid whenever necessary? I know, comedy show yadayada but at this point the girl should be bolting out of the museum.

Either way, Giovani thinks out loud on how he must steal that amulet as it sounds worth a lot of money and he can raise the banzai ranks (i thought he was the boss?). He won't take his minions with him cause they're heavy (but wait, if the barrier is still there, how would he take them out? they're still locked in)

1775259640728.png1775259682077.png

Wait, how is the barrier still there? Can indus simply keep it up for hours without keeping eye contact? Does he know what it is doing? Can he make more barrier while keeping that one? whatever...

1775259773055.png1775259818860.png
(why do these intermissions exist if its on youtube?)

Mera is searching boxes. Why? Why would this amulet be on a random ass box? Anyways, Indus comes and explains he freed the prisoners and came to save her. In a rare good gag, Mera says the girl must have used the epitet to make indus retarded and he says nah, i'm like that.

1775259886919.png1775259930317.png

then some nerd appears and agree this is starting to look like a waste of time

1775259998931.png1775260009917.png

Indus runs, i'm sorry, """runs""" (no animation remember) at him and some glowy stuff hits indus and he faints.

1775260073927.png1775260094409.png
1775260109158.png1775260126615.png
(oh it's going to be one of those characters)

The kid is called Dr Sylverter Ashly, a psychologist investigating epitets effect on the psyche and is interested in the amulet. Mera says the museum is closed and he should go home. He wants to have an academic preview with her, so she fakes an act of the place having thieves. Then Silvester wonder if he takes the thieves, she would guide him and she goes "sure whatevs".

1775260296859.png1775260319136.png

Okay that was WAAAY too easy. Is Mera going to "manipulate" everyone into fighting each other? Silvester seems like an autist who doesnt like being called a kid. He sounds peridot coded and i guess he has sleeping powers.

Back at giovani and molly, they are their "secret base" but idk what that is. It seems like some kind of aquarium but he bought some taxidermy bears there. Then molly wants to give the bears uniforms. Giovani points out she carries a sewing kit too. She asks why, he says he desn't sew, he "knits".

1775260451761.png1775260512832.png
1775260527052.png1775260537943.png

>Are you secretly nice?

NOOO JELLO WHY. Why can't you have an earnest moment speak for itself like a normal person. Not that this was a great moment anyway and doesn't adress the fact giovani tried to kill a woman but you know, it sucks dude.

Giovani asks her to not tell anyone and they give the bears bandanas. I guess that's a bonding moment that proves they are friends now. It's rushed as fuck but i guess there is no time so fuck it, go on. But then giovani goes on joking about molly paying the banzai blaster monthly fee.

1775260724461.png1775260743425.png
(actually good gag)

The conversation goes to molly saying she is well aware of scams and pyramid schemes cause she works in a toy store, giovani asks why a kid does that and she gets sad and maaaaaan, jello is really speedrunning this friendship arc wow.

1775260897496.png1775260977848.png

Turns out dad made toys and mom sold them but after mom died, dad and her sister simply ignored the situation so she has to work. It's been 2 years and they arent normal yet. The dad and sister are "busy" and she was supposed to be working at the story this night.

Quick stop here but wow, jello really made the MC trauma dump on a stranger and the father went from funny socipath to "probably mind broken after wife's death". Giovani does the obvious thing and calls molly a pushover and she should stand up for her self.

1775261106810.png1775261134836.png

It's really really rushed but okay, i guess it could be worse. Giovani says he wants his minions to be the best because he will become the best supervillain in the world. I wonder what retarded traumatic backstory giovani will get because i get the vibe that jello wouldn't let a character he likes so much not have one.

Either way, the nerd appears and his voice acting is really bad and snotty. He's not a kid tho.

1775261344864.png1775261370737.png
(why did jello make this kid so femboy coded with these gay poses?)

The kid then starts throwing dust all over the room. To my surprise molly remembers the dust from when she met the boy earlier and "he must be inscribed and have some kind of sleep inducing epithet" (Jello wants this dialogue to be jojo so bad lol). Giavni says its useless against his DEMON AURA.

1775261535878.png1775261552058.png

Giovani narrates his power to "steamy updraft whirlwind blasts the dust away" or some shit. I know jello thinks this is really clever but at this point Giovani is much more about steam/gas powers than actual soup. Giovani then explains his secret power: After 13 hits he unleashes a super attack because 13 is his lucky number.

1775261709845.png1775261779541.png

As if to mock me specifically, Molly asks if this is soup related and he says nope its just like that. OKAY THEN???

1775261810976.png1775261895313.png

The nerd then starts summoning sheeps to attack. Giovani throws a "lava grenade" and it does nothing. He gives moly a gun and tells her to help. Maybe she can make "dumb bullets" or some shit.

1775261977224.png1775261989748.png
1775262026387.png
(this was the closest thing the show ever got to real animation wou congrats._

Giovani kills one sheep. It's not enough ofc. Then Molly decides to touch a sheep and, i kid you not, dumb it down to nothing.

1775262127333.png1775262138169.png

I pause and breath in, ready to insult jello very loud. Then i relax and play again, and molly explain "i can do that with summonable stuff. I have a sister with a summon and i do that". It does nothing to quell me as i find that i very retarded excuse. Can she do that to people?

1775262232965.png1775262247842.png

nooooooooooooooooooooo jello... this is kusoge now... I think even powerscalers, if this show was popular to actually have powerscalers, would find this shit dumb as fuck.

Then a sheep hits molly face and she goes sleep.y. The kid then hits Molly with the fucking scarecrow fear juice.

1775262410148.png1775262423325.png

Molly is afraid of fire (did her mother die in a fire? hmmm) so she and giovani are surrounded by fire now. The nerd has the power of "drowsy" that somehow translates to hipnosis, sheep and dream manipulaton powers. This sounds a little too overloaded for a word like that but i guess "Dream" would've been too generic for Jello.

1775262546595.png1775262641763.png
ANOTHER MILENIAL INDIE CARTOON WITH HYPERVENTILATING PANIC ATTACKING PROTAG? INTO THE THRASH IT GOES!

Did you really have to have say "she is crying" out loud too? Nerd tells them to stay there and not try to run through the fire (wait so its REAL fire???), Giovani is upset now, and you know this means some anime bullshit is next. Surprisingly it wasn't THAt bulshit, he just steam jumps out of the fire ring.

1775262694623.png1775262724074.png
1775262772027.png1775262829967.png

Somehow, nerd uses "nightmare fuel" power again and gives life to the bears who start swinging at the heroes. Molly tells giovani to use the sewing kit. "i'll stab his eyes" "uh no dude i meant like, throw a ball at him".

1775262906408.png1775262928507.png
(okay the bear talking sudden was funny)

Giovani then "attacks" molly with a yarn ball 12 times and swings the bat with a yarn ball at the nerd, doing critical damage as it's the 13th hit but then he just no sells it. Because of course he did, it was just a yarn ball. How anti climatic. I guess i can't complain, because if giovani can just "farm 13 hits" that easily then it shouldnt be a killing blow.

1775263005259.png1775263061010.png

1775263124033.png1775263167276.png

Nerd gets pissed and says he is forced to bring his ultimate attack. He does an actual vocaroo tier autistic screaming and faints. They mock him for a bit then the nerd became a minotaur man. They scream and episode ends.

THE END

1775267212227.png
(2026 jello would never make a joke like this as it could be taken as transgender headcanon)

Okay, so this episode was mostly giovani and molly bonding and a new villain appearing to have a fight. This fight wasn't that bad on paper but in the end it's basically characters developing new powers out of nowhere over and over.

You can say anime has a lot of this bullshit too, but battle shounen anime generally has more tangible powers or main characters with simple powers. If they don't, it's generally a twist around one core power or has some kind of cultural effect or word play. It's not always good but you get the idea.

Like, in one piece Luffy has the rubber fruit so he streches his limbs and make a big punch. It evolves into things like, forcing his own blood to pump in a way that enhances his physical stats and stronger levels of shapeshifting. It's all self explanatory.

I assume Jello was trying to make "better and cleverer jojo" and accidentally landed on overpowered OC or thrashy isekai. Even Araki tends to realize that some powers can be way too abstract and soft nerf it later, while Jello had his MC unironically say "I dumbed it down to nothing".

1775261552058.png1775262138169.png
(these 2 are as powerful as the plot demands)

Giovani's power so far has nothing to do with soup and is more like steam wizard. In fact, his actual soup moves are treated as joke moves, which is weird because you can totally burn someone with soup. He has done more teleports than soup attacks. I guess Jello thinks the guy with soup powers using soup to attack would be too predictable for his big brain to write, so instead he just makes up other powers.

Silverster's [Drowsy] suffers f rom opposite problems. It feels like Jello didn't want it to be called DREAM because it would be too generic but then he made it DREAM in all but name. It's also easy to stretch it into no limits (how much is real?) and overloaded (it did not need to have a transformation).

1775262423325.png1775260126615.png
(twink nerd)

Moving on from power sperging, the friendship between giovani and molly is very rushed and cliche. I don't like how Jello simply ignores the part where Giovani genuinely tried to kill people and acts like he would never hurt anyone and he's just the coolest friend ever.

1775260527052.png1775260897496.png
(Molly asks Giovani if he's secretly nice because Jello doesn't trsut you to draw that conclusion)

Molly also has a very lazy tragic backstory of dead mother too. It's crazy how they made this slideshow but they couldn't even show some flashback pictures or anything. I'll take a polite guess and say at least half the main cast will have a tragic backstory of some kind.

Anyways i think the pacing is better than the first at least. It's kinda rushed but if this all had to happen in one episode it could've been a lot worse. Voice acting is still mid with molly va having some cracks and nerdy sounding too nasally nerdy. Music is rare and low again.

Youtube comments seem to like this episode, i guess all you need is a heckin wholese bonding moment.

1775268993541.png 1775269018572.png 1775269071571.png 1775269086247.png

I feel the issue with the power scaling comes with the fact that Jello is still treating Epithet Erased like it's still a DnD campaign.

If this was a DnD campaign, the absurd and stretchy logic that the powers have wouldn't be an issue, since a DnD campaign would be more focused on the players and how they interact with what the DM throws at them. As long as the story still flows in a direction the DM can work with, it doesn't matter what bullshit logic the players come up with to get past each obstacle, so long as the DM likes it, and they can get the right rolls (Even that is based on the DM's biases).

1775273986590.png

Of course, Epithet isn't a DnD campaign. The "Players" just being able to do weirdly overpowered crap, and the story just going along with it causes major issues with the power balancing when you know that the MC can just arbitrarily "Dumb down" anything, and only sometimes doesn't because the story demands it

The best way I can put it is, imagine a video game where you can grind your character so much, you oneshot the final boss.
Now imagine an anime series where a character goes through a training arc, and oneshots the final villain.

I feel the issue with the power scaling comes with the fact that Jello is still treating Epithet Erased like it's still a DnD campaign.

I understand what you mean, it certainly feel like the "fun" of the fight isn't the fight itself but "how do i roleplay this power in a way that solves this problem?".

I guess it's a little unfair to expect otherwise, but like you said, this doesn't work for a narrative driven show. I actually hate powerscalers and battleboarding but i feel like jello writes in a way that turns me into one of them and i feel autistic.

If i had to elaborate, i find the way fights (so far) are written come more as power driven than character driven and this ends up being a crutch. By makign the power so focused on the user's interpretation, it ironically puts the weight of the battle on the power itself and less on the user.

Giovani is the one with "weak power used creatively" but his power is not that weak and everyone is creative anyway so what makes him different? What is stopping giovani from turning people into soup? If someone else had his power could they do it?

It's a system where anyone can do anything and is only """balanced""" by it's "roleplayers" putting fun above all else, which ironically makes the fight look like a children's playground. Just a bunch of kids making up new superpowers. It breaks the immersion when Molly is sad and thinks her power is weak when a guy whose power is SOUP fucking loves it because he can "soup teleport".

Indus is the exception but i feel like he's the token opposite and only does one thing (BARRIER) as a joke.

Anyways i'm sperging about this man's slide show. My advice for jello would be that, if he was/is going to commit to such abstract power system, he should've gone all out on drama. There is a charm to childish nonsense that takes itself completely serious like kingdom hearts, but i think Jello hates kingdom hearts so he's too afraid of looking "cringe" like it. So fights can't have stakes, edge, drama, etc. It has to be quirky and mildly ironic poisoned.

Unrelated but it's funny that Jello mocks kingdom hearts with "You can tell they're friends because they eat ice cream together!" without understanding how somethign that simple can mean so much for those characters. Instead he has Molly tell her sad backstory to Giovani and he cheers her. It sounds good at first, but it's a case of a writer who thinks "realistic well written friendship is when you're sad and your buddy says you're valid!".

Anways, you know what they say, if you're not going have to have good writing, at least have hype and aura.

And if I have spare time, it sends me down a rabbit hole of going through Jello's stuff to see what his thoughts are beyond the STiB videos

You know... Aqua. The only playable female character before KH3's DLC. The only female character that has a personality beyond being sad, being lonely, or being Kairi. The one who got the title of "Master" leading to Terra's downward spiral, made Castle Oblivion so she can hide Ventus, and put Terranort in his starting position by the time we hear about him in KH2.

1775357971542.png
First off, it's a video game. Of course there are long stretches of gameplay where you're just fighting and jumping around. Second, you're going to fucking Disney worlds. The hell do you mean "Five wacky things happen the entire time"???

1775358264963.png
In case anyone forgot, this is an actual thing he did during the Kingdom Hearts STiB.

1775357937526.png
And of course... the usual "I did 300 hours of research and absolutely didn't misinterpret anything" statement.

There's a few more, but they're mostly just generic "Haha, Kingdom Hearts cutscenes are vague and doesn't explain things, story bad" Along with miscellaneous things like dodge roll not being unlocked at the start

Edit: replaced the screenshots with ones that have dates on them

It is almost as if he experiences those media through senses humans do not have. He is either really autistic or an alien.

(This is the one that's important for the Epithet Erased discussion)

Jello, my nigger, that's literally epitet erased. Not even trying to be derogatory or hyperbolic, you described your own show and not kingdom hearts. That's exactly how it works. I brought up KH as a random example, i didn't think Jello would bring the most damning case of projection ever.

And you know what, the worst part is that Jello doesn't understand that this isn't an issue. It's not "cringe".

I'm argueably being unfair to epitet in the first place for expecint a more realistic powerscaling in the first place (i thought jello was all about it) and the idea of literal "14 year olds making shit up" can be fun to watch. That's basically how beyblade and Yugioh works and i like those, i'm not ashamed of that. But this proves that wasn't the intentional. That Jello would deny it and say epithet fights are deep and clever "unlike cringy kingdom hearts".

It's like... urgh... Imagine being so cynical and iliterate that you don't realize you created exactly the thing you make fun of because you didn't understand it.

I found this while I was going through Jello's Twitter exchanges with Kirbopher
1775411045510.png

I wanted to get around to rewatching Jello's Ace Attorney STiB video before bringing it up, because I remembered that the main issue with that video specifically (Besides the usual) is the fact that it pretty much repeats every single overused joke in the Ace Attorney.

"Fliphones in 2016", "Underaged Assistants", "Japanifornia", "Maya gets accused of murder" And so on...

But something that I completely forgot until I rewatched the video, is Jello putting emphasis on the two jokes in particular. "You can't skip to guessing the answer" and "The legal system is Bullshit"

Setting aside the credits, the video is 4 minutes long. There are two 40 second long segments where the joke is "Haha, you presented the thing ahead of the game. You get a penalty" and "Haha, even though you proved the client innocent, you still failed because you didn't find the killer". And of course, because this is a JelloApocalypse STiB video, both of these segments include the usual "Character points out flaw in an exaggerated, condescending voice. ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW BAD AND STUPID THIS THING IS HAHAHAHA"

And I should clarify. On their own, there's nothing wrong with these jokes. Are they overused? Yes. But they're overused for a reason. Even if people exaggerate them to a point where the turn into common misconceptions, they're still funny with the right execution and with the pretense that people realize these are jokes and should be taken with a grain of salt.

But couple these with Jello's arrogant know-it-all attitude, and you get an example of a prick that acts like these jokes are the truth, and comes off as feeling smart and smug about pointing them out and making fun of them.

Which brings us back to the original conversation with Kirbopher.
"People are dumb and stupid for making unfunny obvious jokes and acting smart about it. I think people who do that deserve to be hated"

"Oh, but when *I* do it, it IS smart, it IS funny, and people who don't like it should chill and realize *I* don't deserve to be hated for it at all"

Oh, and remember how before this I said that a good bit of Jello's KH posts were the generic "Kingdom Hearts plot complicated, therefore bad and stupid"? Yeah, THAT'S not an overused joke at all.

Awkward Zombie also already made that joke, and it was probably stretched out too long too.
So I did the only reasonable thing and screencapped only the first half of that comic:

Yeah, AwkwardZombie's comics were more or less the reason why these jokes started getting overused. That said, I like your idea of taking her comics and cropping them out to be faster. So here's some other jokes AwkwardZombie made that Jello just repeated
