I think it's premature to speculate about who (if anyone) in government wants to protect Maxwell, let alone how.
This links straight back into the all-too predictable "hur dur Trump" versus "hur dur Clinton" tard-fighting, and how people will immediately admit it's one group of elites controlling both "parties" though money and influence but still turn around and say "their" side is better without a hint of irony or self-awareness. One "side" wants her protected only so long as she's implicating people on the other, and wants her in "their" custody to make a deal that implicates only the "other" side.
This time around, the contrast is clear because those "partisan" divides are jurisdictional. SDNY wants bad orange man and friends go bye-bye, FBI wants Clinton and friends go bye-bye. The reality is, whoever goes down if anyone will be whomever is least damaging to elites, and whose downfall preserves the status, wealth, and influence of the whole; neither SDNY nor FBI get a whole lot of say in that, because whatever influence might be gotten by shaping the narrative will be memory holed in a media cycle or two.
Whatever Maxwell might have to say will be sealed, just like Epstein. If there are indictments they'll either end in nol-pros or cherry plea deals kept sealed, just like Epstein. Even sparing that, trials will end in mistrial by design, or acquittal. It'll get strung out until it's been memory holed by the press and most if not all the implicated individuals have conveniently croaked.
One of the achievements of Trump has been to severely deplete the Clintons and Co.'s political influence...Trump has drained the swamp quite successfully. The bog beasts are still there, but the water is low enough now that we can see them better.
Trump's had less to do with that over the entire course of his Presidency, than Robby Mook did in six months of electoral campaigning. Going as far back to the first Clinton Presidency, the Clinton wing of the Democratic party consistently and unerringly relied on hands-down the stupidest people in politics, who failed upward because of their political connections which allowed them to succeed despite themselves. Brock, the Podestas, Carville, Summers, Reno, Fredo, all of them are hands-down some of the most tone deaf and politically obtuse motherfuckers who have ever set foot on Capitol Hill, whose only claim to power is their rolodex.
The kind of thing you'd expect from an Arkansas white trash sped who grew up only knowing southern Democratic old boy politics, and cruise controlled straight from that to Ivy League fraternity/secret society influence bartering. Except Slick Willie had charisma and good instincts, and was able to keep his three-ring sped circus from spraying their tard cum all over the news media and all the way down K Street. The Wicked Witch of the West Wing had neither, and nature took its course.
If a single person in Hillary's inner circle, including herself, understood the most basic of American electoral strategy maxims which is that swing states matter and that candidates shouldn't go out of their way to insult voters in them, even accounting for every other systemic fuck-up, grift, and October non-surprise, Trump would never have won in the first place.
