'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

If you had to write a manual on how to NOT get away with a fake hate crime, Jussie would be the world-renowned author of the definitive text. Literally every last thing about this was bungled.

As experts mentioned, if he had just trotted out the "starting a conversation" line early on like every other asshole activist scamming fuck does, it would have been swept under the rug by a very willing Chicago political machine. Now the machine is pissed because this smug faggot keeps embarrassing them.

When Empire first launched we pretty much went "I ain't watching that shit" nor noted who was on it nor cared to know. We liked that xmen gifted show because it had a fine assortment of both skinny bitches and thicc ones.

One work buddy called the show "Nigpire" and speculated it was about somebody who comes out at night to siphon welfare benefits.

A lot of older gay people are really pissed by jussie and his bs. For instance, Robin Roberts who did the amazing interview with jussie. She is gay but is lowkey about it, i didnt know till a few months ago that she is.

She absolutely did NOT want to do that interview with jussie. She already knew he was full of shit and did not want to deal with him. But as a professional, she did and she did a fanfuckingtasttic job of giving him enough rope to hang himself even more. She hid her disgust and did her job.

She kinda got slammed for doing the interview because people thought she supported him. Hey, newsflash, that is real journalism. She was professional and kept her opinions to herself. She let him do the talking and i imagine that interview will be part of evidence in court. I hope she has more footage too. He really showed his ass with smug comments and bullshit but Robin just politely let him go for it. The oldschool gays who were young in the 60s and 70s aint stupid at all. They know what real harrasment and discrimination and fear and this stupid looney toons type of attack is not it.

“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts is opening up about her interview with Jussie Smollett, calling the sit-down "a no-win situation."

During The Cut's "How I Get It Done" event on Monday, Roberts, 58, admitted that she initially wasn't sure she wanted to proceed with the segment.

“I’ll be completely honest, I was like I don’t know if I want to do the interview or not,” she recalled, according to Page Six. “I said, ‘I don’t want to sit down with him if he’s going to lawyer up.' And then I was told, ‘He wants to speak with you,’ [because] he was outraged by people making assumptions about whether it had happened or not.”

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Roberts said Smollett's team told her that she could challenge the "Empire" actor on what she saw as "red flags" in the alleged attack and that the 36-year-old would also give her new information he hadn't said anywhere else.

"I'm like — as a journalist and as a news person, this is his right," Roberts stated. "He's going on the record for the first time. Yes, I'll do the interview."

Roberts' interview with Smollett aired on Feb. 14. but was taped two days earlier.

“I sit down with him, and I don’t know what he’s going to say,” she remembered. “Following up [about how] he couldn’t believe people didn’t believe him, well I go, ‘You’re out 2 o’clock in the morning, you’re getting a sandwich, [and] you won’t give up your phone.'”

Although she didn't know how the interview was going to go, Roberts said she worked to stay as "neutral" as possible.

“I’m a black gay woman, he’s a black gay man,” she said. “He’s saying that there’s a hate crime, so if I’m too hard, then my LGBT community is going to say, ‘You don’t believe a brother,’ if I’m too light on him, it’s like, 'Oh, because you are in the community, you’re giving him a pass.'”

“It was a no-win situation for me,” Roberts added.

After Smollett sat down with Roberts, Chicago police questioned two brothers in the reported attack and released them without charges. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said at the time that the pair had given officers information that had "shifted the trajectory of the investigation.”

“People are looking at the interview through the eyes of ‘How did you not know?'” Roberts said. “I did the interview 48 hours before then. Had I had that information or [knew] what the brothers were alleging, heck yeah, I would have asked him about that.”

“I pride myself in being fair, I know how much work went into being balanced about what had happened and to challenge him on certain things."


Roberts ended by saying that when the interview happened, Smollett was considered a victim, and she chose her questions accordingly.

“There’s so many people who do not come forward because others are not believed. I don’t know how this is all going to end,” she said. “We still talk to the [Chicago] police superintendent [Eddie T. Johnson].”

“It was one of the most challenging interviews I’ve ever had to do."

Most of this is just random little things that are not well known.

it was reported that police found cut out magazines in the brothers homes.

the reason the attack had to happen on that night at that time was because jussies flight into chicago had been seriously delayed and he got home late the at night. So that delayed the attack. It could not be postposed because the brothers were already scheduled to be on a plane to nigeria within hours of the attack for a vacation. It could not be postponed till after the nigeria trip was over er because kamala harris and corey booker had a bill about hate crimes and lynching that was being voted on before the brothers were going to be back in usa.

After jussie 100% identified the brothers during his interview as the attackers from the grainy, dark shot the surveillance footage which only showed their basic shape and clothing. Upon being shown their facial pics i the police station, he said " that cant be them, those guys are BLACK AS SIN! ". Ah jussie, that sounds pretty racists and bigotty to me.

the ONLY reason the O brothers ( aka the O Bros) were not wearing maga hats is because they dont sell those in that area. ( gee, wouldnt maga country sell those like hotcakes in chicago??) So they bought plain red baseball caps instead.

Smollett is biracial; his mother is African-American and his father was a Joowish white man whose family emigrated from Russia and Poland. He has said that his father would "kill you if you called him white". So jussie was raised to think being white is a bad thing and that whites are his enemies.

his father was abusive and deserted the family often . But they were wealthy and did not suffer financial hardship in his absence.

His father felt jussie was a weak, pussified embarrassment. That is why he has such a complex about being called or considered as weak. Because of this his mama coddled and protected him. He learned manipulation and how to play people against each other , early in life.

Jussie really wanted to press charges on the brothers. His lawyers warned him not to as they knew it would backfire exponentially. So that why his lawyer came up with the bs about "jusse is forgiving and wants to just get back to his career. she said he did not like being tried in the court of public opinion and would not want to do that to someone else. What a freaking magnanimous man, right?

Jussie feels he does not owe the chicago the over $130,000 in costs for the overtime and manpower they put you towards finding the attackers. Jussie said he didnt tell them to do that so isnt his problem. Yet we whimpered and cried like a 2 year old when robin roberts asked him what he would do if they attackers were found. He whine, complete with snotty nose about how they must be found or he would be be traumatized forever and it would be so unfair. He is quite arrogant about the police spending money to find his attackers bcuz he never thought they would find them,lol.

Uhhh with that kinda rumor going around...if the Osundairo brothers' reputation hasn't already been ruined by them bungling the coverup for this bullshit, then I'm pretty sure accusations of one of them fucking another man, that other man specifically being Jussie, most definitely will. Especially because homosexuality is looked down upon in West Africa. Heavily.
